NAMASTE Divya, thank you for this video. I practice ashtanga at home and I have had lower back back for years. And the back is preventing me going to much further. But I will overlook the pain, I have done it for years. Thank you NAMASTE

comment on Dave H's statement of "overlooking the pain": Please, never "overlook-the-pain"..Your body is telling you something, your body is talking to your mind..acknowledge your pain & work to relieve it. Find the tiny adjustments you need to make in in your personal asana practice to 'most near' approximate the pose without causing pain to appear. Relax & relieve the tension of the pain--Breath into the beginning edge of the pain, with healing energy of the mind & universe.. But don't "power-through" the pain..That is not what yoga is about..Yoga is about understanding the edges & your personal limits of your own individual body & working with & accepting what you are, -what you have..yoga is moving throught your asanas with ease, a calm face & attitude & a relaxation of tension.

Agreed. I would be interested in knowing what a medical professional (one trained in anatomy&physiology, kinesiology, physics, strength&conditioning)thinks of yoga poses (asanas), especially as it relates to someone with cervical (disc), shoulder, and upper back issues. Unfortunately, most teaching yoga, do not have expertise or background in any of these areas. As such, it is scary when a teacher directs/pushes students to go further in a pose without such advanced knowledge (very scary!).

How right U r.. many more credentials should be required to be obtained BEFORE a person is allowed to teach yoga to a class of general population..& especially if teaching a class to special needs & post rehab populations.
@krisano1prsn6 жыл бұрын
Yes, and a yoga certification literally means they passed the credentials required to teach at certain levels. It in no way qualifies them to make corrections or make adjustments based on a person's medical condition (guess that's why you sign a waiver prior to class), so be weary. There are a few teachers out there with a PT license/degree and those are the only ones I would trust.

- A Physical Therapy degreed person may be the answer for some circumstances/ & surely a medically educated & oriented instructor is an asset--but I would also want the yoga instructor be thoroughly educated in yoga intention, thought & movement, mission & fundamentals of its history & meaning..Some -(not all) of the yoga masters were excellent in providing indepth understanding of movement( kinesiology,of) & acknowledging muscle imbalances & asanas to correct such imbalances, & "dis-eases"&, -in fact, addressing complicated physical human issues in a physical-emotional-spiritual yogic way.
