You mean like Greek yogurt right? Yeah it’s sour and you need to add honey. It’s funny because milk goes clumpy like yogurt if it goes bad and sour as well 😂
@angelluisf77304 жыл бұрын
Although this is a problem worldwide, I have to say it's a lot worse in the US compared to other countries. The added sugar in the products in the US is insane. I'm Spanish and when I started to read the nutritional info of the products in the US I freaked out, everything has nearly twice as much sugar as the equivalent products in Spain. I guess it's because of legal restrictions in the EU, because the food companies are the same ones in most cases (although the brand name can differ). An additional problem is the misguiding nutritional info "by portion", with portions of maybe 4 g. With an accuracy of 1 g, and the rounding, a product can have nearly 25% sugar and still state "0 g" in the table. In Spain (I think in the EU in general) this is provided for 100g of product always, so if something has sugar, there is no way to hide it with these cheap tricks.
@vtigzy4 жыл бұрын
In Australia every product has a per 100g table of nutrition info which makes it a lot easier to keep track of. It sounds crazy to only have a portion size which they can make tiny compared to the amount that you would actually eat.
@angelluisf77304 жыл бұрын
@@vtigzy I was working in Melbourne 3 years ago. I didn't pay so much attention to this back then though, but I can tell food there is very high quality (and priced) in general, everything is hormone free (or at least that is available everywhere) and there lots of local products, which is often a good sign. We make our own plain yogurt without any additives except whatever is in the milk we use. We have done this for decades in Eastern Europe but no one called it Greek yogurt. It's super easy to do, try it. Boil the milk (whole or 2%), let it cool down where its lukewarm. Mix in 1-2 tablespoons of plain yogurt ( you'll have to use store bought one to start then you'll just keep reusing the one you made). Mix it well, cover and wrap in a towel, all around. Place it somewhere where its not too cold, my mom always puts it in a corner next to the stove. We do this in the evening and by the morning yogurt is done. Sometimes, it might not work and there might be several reasons for it: milk was either too hot or too cold. The room where you left it is too cold but try it few times and see how it goes. I'd love to hear if you had success with it. Also, once its done we keep it in a fridge. It can last for up to two weeks or so. We keep it until it changes the smell, and taste to more sour one. You'll be able to tell the difference.

Once again, erroneously in my opinion, the focus was entirely on calories rather than sugar content or GI. Even plain low fat yogurt has more sugar than plain full fat. When I brought this to her attention, I was dismissed as an an imbecile! At the end of the talk, I suggested checking the labels on her next trip to the supermarket. Hopefully, I was given the benefit of doubt, and future newly diagnosed diabetics would not be given the same bad advice.

Good morning dear Dr Eric, Thank you so much for your video showing us" Yogurt vs Ice cream" comparison. Which one is healthier ? Honestly, i am making yoghurt at home for last 11 years, because I don't need to add sweet to it , more healthy version. Packed yogurt in cause allergy to me, due to corn syrup and high sweeteners in it. Ice cream , not healthy food for anyone, can say occasionally once in summer but cannot be taken as dessert regularly. Dr, once again, thank you so much for your video. Best regards Sarjit

It’s either low sugar Nordic Siggis or Greek Chobani or I’d just go all out occasional treat with Bacio di Latte 70% dark chocolate, ceremonial grade matcha gelato on their fresh waffle cones. Haagen Daz is a distant next choice as at least they don’t put a lot of additives...and Trader Joe’s Matcha ice cream is amazingly good on both ingredients, price and taste.

I enjoy kefir and would never consume the yogurts you've listed. There are quite a few great tasting keto icecream brands on the market these days.🐾

I don't eat much yogurt, but when I do my go to is Icelandic Skyr (Siggi's or icelandic provisions are the usual available ones). They are super high in protein compared to normal greek yogurt.

My grandma eats traditional yogurt which is made from buffalow milk processed in a traditional way. It's plain and delicious.

I can remember when my family had a dairy farm and we got knocked down to grade B milk by Southern Bell. Can't remember what issue they found in our milk, but it meant less compensation for the same gallons of milk. My dad explained how we went from drinking-grade down to cheese and yogurt. It wasn't but a month and we got bumped back up to grade A.

Oh, that makes sense. Yogurt is a lot more tart than cream, so they add a whole bunch of extra sugar to overcome that tart flavor compared to ice cream.

I make my yogurt wit a Bulgarian starter or Mechnikov prostokvasha ( Russian kefir) starter. It's easy and taste is perfect. Agree about yogurts in our stores.

ok, so this seems to be the case in USA then, but here in Norway it can vary, some ice cream is 8g fat per 100g in Diplom chocolate, vanilla, strawberry is, some yoghurt is 3.1 g per 100g. that's just the regular TIne yoghurt. I haven't tried Greek yogurt.

I remember my German grandma used to say that cereal was being given to the pigs and humans were not suppose to eat it... she also used to make her own yogurt. Only used 2 teaspoons of sugar throughout the day for her tea. She was so thin, ate like a bird and used to fast a lot. She always said that fasting was good for the body... where did she get that wisdom?

But what about plain greek yogurt with no added sugar?
@megadesu694 жыл бұрын
He said that was fine. Though you may not want to overdo it if you're not used to fermented foods.

Here in Brazil, Activia has 25g of sugar per 200g of yogurt. I have no idea why yogurt in America has so much more sugar than here.. This is the regular version of Activia. There's also the "0% sugar" version, actually it's just 0% ADDED sugar, which has 6g of sugar per 200g of yogurt.

Total Greek Yogurt, that's the brand you're looking for. I'm Greek and I can find it easier in England and I suggest it to everyone. It has only 3 grams of carbs per 100 grams of yogurt. I don't really understand what the hell happens in America, you add sugar to everything! It's quite insane. P.G. For lunch I have the following meal: 100-150 grams of yougurt + 1 avocado + 1 egg (boiled for 6 minutes) + salt + pepper all together. Try it, the egg yolk mixed with pepper and yogurt creates a fantastic combination. This meal has only 5 grams of carbohydrates, fully keto and high in probiotics, minerals, potassium, vitamins, everything. Ideal for 2-meal intermittend fasting.

The greek yogurt I consume is flavored or has fruit at the bottom. Serving size is 5.3 oz with 13 grams of total sugars, which translates to 19.6 grams per cup. I'll stick with flavored over plain. 😉

For so many years growing up I consummed up to 15 or 20 yogurt pots a day because my parents were completely ignorant about health, now after 2 years of eating healthy and exercising I'm at a normal weight but still have manboobs (excess skin) from clogging my liver so much that it couldn't process all the estrogen that was in the yogurts too. If only I knew it wasn't any better than ice cream I would've enjoyed myself more at least.
