She was literally the person to put Little Richard on stage. He never sang outside of church before she had him sing when she was doing a set in his home town.

You did a beautiful rendition of Sister Rosetta Tharpe in the film!! I wished the scenes you were performing in were longer! And it's about time Sister Rosetta Tharpe is recognized and celebrated! I hope the film will inspire people to go back and see how so many music genres were started or influenced by Black artists over time!! We are the foundation 👑

I’ve been playing guitar and listening, playing blues for decades. The first time I heard Sister Rosetta Thorpe I thought to myself “I don’t have it. It’s just a hobby. SHE is a force.” This video is brilliant. So accurate. Tharpe needs a film to herself.

@@danielleriverin3117 I've watched it twice. I have a new appreciation for Elvis the way they incorporated all of the black rock 'n' roll stars he encountered in the movie.

Glad to see her getting more recognition. But when I first discovered her like 20 years ago, I was like why is she not more celebrated? She’s clearly the first rock ‘n’ roll star, and she was also a gospel star. Like you say her influence is so huge on American music. I just want that white guitar… ❤️

Anyone that dose not know sister Rosetta Tharp is the godmother of Rock and roll knows nothing of real Rock n roll. Bout time they told the world the truth. Elvis stole from her. 💜

He was influenced by her. Not stole. Each generation influences the next. If you missed that, you missed the entire point of Yola's video here.

@@L_O27 and when did elvis ever give credit to the woman that inspired him? He never did he made money by copying the music and not even giving her any credit. That’s the truth of it. The person that made the video is being polite she has more to loose if she offends anyone. I don’t.

All of this stuff Yola talks about isn't even shown in the film. She gets half of a speck in the film. Where is THIS movie, Yola?? 😄

She basically invented a genre, that ended up generating billions on billions on billions of dollars for people worldwide in many capacities from singers, to managers, to venue owners to whiskey dealers and after all that she was buried in an unmarked grave for over 35 years. I tell you America is a cold place
