NOTE: This video was filmed and edited before the war in Gaza. Its style, therefore, does not reflect the gravity of the situation today, and the suffering millions are going through in the occupied territories. With one exception, I am publishing this series in the order that I filmed it, so this episode does not cover the war, and is just a glimpse into a Jewish holiday. You can find videos about the war, occupation, and their impacts on Palestinians on my channel, and more will be published in the future.

Interesting insight into the diversity within Jewish communities, from the secular to the orthodox. Sensitive introduction, taking into account the desperate situation at present. You are walking a fine balance extremely well - it must be difficult. Great journalism and fab footage as usual.

Thx for the video .I am agnostic but observing abrahamic religions has always been my focus of interest and I can say that this is a great video. But I should also say something else. I live in Turkey and the atmosphere which the religious people and secular ones living together and not seeing eye to eye,disagreeing and dissociating themselves is occured here too,unfortunately.I hope this nonsense comes to an end just as soon as.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! Which part of Turkey are you from? I actually heard a bit about that when I was in Kayseri, Aksaray, and Rize during Ramadan. It was an amazing experience altogether, but I do remember some local people I met explaining that from time-to-time in some of the more conservative areas there's a bit of tension if someone is seen to be openly not fasting by people who are fasting.

Having lived in Apartheid South Africa and being conscripted, I want to make sure that its understood, the degradation and violence destroys the oppressors as much, or even more than it does the victims. I need two hands to count the number of friends who's lives were never the same after that terrible time. They were not the happy boys I met, they had seen the abyss and couldn't look away or be at peace ever again. No land is worth your soul.

I like how you mentioned your disclaimer, it was much needed to mention and I applaud your effort to report on something like this in spite of the situation, it's a brave thing to do, to publish this video now. I have a small constructive criticism however, if you would allow: It's not a "war" if it's just one side funded by the largest world economies bombing children hospitals - and the other side is 2 million starving civilians + a dozen angry morons with a couple of old AKs. By branding it as a war we are sadly helping the biased media narrative.
@spary57513 ай бұрын
A similar arguement could be made for conflicts like in Afghanistan and Vietnam, which most would certainly think of as wars. This begs the question: when, according to you, does a conflict cease being a... whatever you call the war in gaza, and become a "war"? In both those conflicts it was the "dozen angry morons with a couple of old AKs" that won, albeit through political more than tactical methods.
@CornflakesYognaut3 ай бұрын
@@spary5751 Not sure exactly where the line is tbh. I think that here the classic "I'll know it when I see it" line is applicable. Maybe someone smarter and more educated than me should make that decision. But to answer your question - I think that just purely the sheer difference in number of casualties justifies it moving to a different category than to "war", no? Quick google search tells me 42k for Palestine and 1,4k Israeli... Not sure if these numbers are correct, but if they are even close to true - they are so strongly skewed that it really seems wrong to see it as two opposing sides - in my eyes one side is an aggressor with a huge financial, military, equipment and manpower advantage. Also one side is living somewhat normally (in practical everyday activities I mean, I acknowledge that even the Israelis are stressed from all of this), while the other side is in tents, being bombed, not only fearing for their lives but being actively targeted daily, having difficulties finding shelter, medicine and food. The other side can also leave the Israeli border whenever they please, while the Palestinians are trapped in a small, ever-shrinking enclosed area, which I would describe as being closer to a concentration camp than just a militarized zone. In Vietnam and Afghanistan the sides were obviously skewed as well, but the other side has provided military opposition, they made it difficult and fought back. They made the enemy think about how they approach, the invasions required tactics, etc. They all took it seriously. The Palestinians can't even do that... Judging by the footage and accounts I found, the IDF has smiles on their faces during all the actions, no fear required. This is obviously a personal and subjective deduction, but that's the vibe I'm getting.
@TieranFreedman3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. That’s a fair point; the imbalance in forces, firepower, and the way the average Israeli’s vs. the average Palestinian’s life is impacted by the invasion is important to point out. I tried to keep the disclaimer relatively concise without shying away from the reality of life for millions of Palestinians. In my full videos about Gaza I explain that further, as well as the fact that in the Israeli government there is open discussion of the ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip by the Israeli Minister of National Security and the Minister of Finance, to name a few.
@spary57513 ай бұрын
@@CornflakesYognaut I fail to see why a large imbalance in casualties would make a conflict any less fo a war. during the winter war, the soviets took 10-11 times the casualties of the finns, but nobody denies this to be a war, the soviets even won it. There is also the matter of Hamas, who are both the aggressor in this specific conflict, as well as active participants in the fighting. Further complicating this is the prevelance of data that suggests them to be largely supported by Gaza's population. Let's not forget they were voted to power, granting them at least some level of legitimacy. Like the Viet-Kong they hide in subterrainian tunnels and sometimes public buildings (schools, hospitals, etc.), making it difficult for them to be targeted. As for the "normaility" of life in Israel during this conflict, aside from some rationing, the lives of US citizens during ww2 was largely unaffected, and almost completely for all of the US' conflicts since. I fail to see the distinguishing line.

It's quite sad to see a "rabbi" gleefully sharing about secularism and mixture of religion and a "synagogue" with gay pride flags. You cannot outdo the morality of God. To embrace things He says are bad doesn't make you more virtuous than He or even benefit the sinner. It does harm to all.

An uncomfortable watch. While this offers an on-the-ground insight into life in Israel, to be fair, the state of Israel has been meting out injustice and outright barbarism to the Palestinians and even it's allies since 1948 (& before under British rule). I realise we still have to get on with our lives while some truly terrible things are happening in the world, but it's disturbing to be watching YK celebrations in Israel, darkly juxtapositioned to events a year later. Obviously, Judaism is far from alone in failing to translate acts of purification into anything meaningful, but in Israeli society, these seem at best tokenistic and at worst, an onanistic self-indulgence, given the intolerable conditions in the nearby occupied land. I understand your determination to upload this diary and latest journey. I understand that this is perhaps a true test of your mettle as an explorer and, dare I say, as a journalist, but you will soon need to update your honorable disclaimer at the beginning of these videos as leaks from within Israel are showing that the IDF itself, enacting the "Hannibal directive" was responsible for much of the carnage on 7th Oct.
