High detailed graphics are not necessary when your game has a good art direction/design/style, HD doesn't equal beauty. Anthem has lots of highly detailed stuff but lacks style and personalty (take BioShock Infinite for example, the graphics aren't impressive but the game is all eye candy and every place is remarkable). Also "companies that no one cares about" - so you buy the brand, not the game? This is some teenager girl mentality over there. It's where the easy profit is at. You can sell a AAA game with the budget of a summer blockbuster movie for $60 and maybe some $20-30 DLC or a rehashed multiplayer game with a dirt cheap budget and a few "new" features for $60 and sell tons of microtransactions. The latter costs less, risks less, and with sufficient marketing and deception, even an outright bomb can earn your budget back and a tidy sum besides- ESPECIALLY if you keep the suckers hooked by promising to make improvements going forward.

one of the main issues here is mismanagement. telling devs you MUST use engine that doesn't really fit the game your trying to make and as shared to us by yongyea they actively had to fight... yeah bioware being picked up by ea was its death knell. as well as so many others. thank god bungie jumped ship from activision.

As with all things, Live Services as a concept is not inherently bad. Many beloved games, especially MMO's like Everquest or Eve Online, all fall under the "games as service" model, and games like Warframe which have an incredibly frequent update speed would be impossible to achieve as a traditional game. What studios like EA and Bethesda forget though is that games as service requires the base game to be mostly playable, and that the live service element should be additions that enrich the game and prolong its life, instead of abusing the model by omitting features either from neglect or willful malice and then adding them in as "new additions" just for a few more bucks. The lack of polish Anthem and Fallout 76 launched in may have been forgivable if they were F2P games from small fledgling studios, but they're being sold as $60 premium games by some of the largest and richest publishers on the planet, which of course would make the games feel like rip-offs. Games as Service is here to stay whether people like it or not, all we need to do is be vigilant of the games and their developers that would abuse the power that this business model gives over consumers.

Generally speaking, it's not the devs specifically, but the execs pushing deadlines... Unless you mean 'devs' as in the whole company, then totally agreed! I mostly bring it up because the software engineers specifically are very, very often called 'the devs' in a lot of companies, when the vast majority of the time, a product sucks because we weren't given enough time or resources to do our job. Seems like it was a lot of column A, little bit of column B in this case... The devs definitely should have been more focused, but they still got kicked in the pills by execs.

so, what is Anthem? well, it's a singleplayer story driven experience, but not really. it's a 3rd person shooter with abilities that just about works. it's a looter shooter, except the drop rates are comparable to FIFA pack stats. and the developers host events titled Ask Us Anything, except not really. buying lottery tickets for $60 gets you more fun and the potential of getting more money while also being a lot more stable at this point.

Maybe a little more attention for the Head of Live Services during the stream instead of the Community Manager. No doubt the HLS has a bigger corner office and salary while the CM has a little cubicle down with the Devs, and we all know how short the tenure of a CM is in gaming companies. Poor guy. Plus the CM often has his/her hands tied by all those above him/her! He was probably ordered to keep radio silence. Most of the big gaming companies are going to be hurting this year chasing after MTX, while gamers are starting to get burned and reluctant to buy until players do reviews after the first patches happen.

@I Nominate This Rock for the Democratic Candidacy 3 definitely had a lot of issues, but I think with all that they added to fix it, it became a really great experience. I still disagree with the ending, but everything before that really gave us something extremely special. Just like Star Wars, Mass Effect isn't about the one story we experience, it's about the people that inhabit the universe. It's not about the games or the movies, it's about the world. I just want more high-quality world building. Even if it was an MMO in which we could play as the main races rebuilding their civilizations and their mass relays, I'd be happy to just live in that world.

@@AngryBoozer I don't know if you play warframe or not, but Ghost is actually not exaggerating, 55 hours into the game will probably allow you to grasp the basic of the movement, combat, and modding systems, try out a couple of weapons, find out about the MR tests, and get your first quest-based warframe if you're a decent gamer who already have experiences in shooters. However, understanding it and being able to use that knowledge effectively are 2 different things, you will still be overwhelmed by how much faster your teammates move and kill enemies. The fact that different factions and different classes in the same factions have different weakness to different elements might not be something you're familiar with. You haven't gotten the Vault and Lua mods, meaning you can't build your warframe and weapons to their full potential, at least not yet. Those are just a few points in the sea of contents that you CAN'T experience, not even a little bit, in 55 hours of warframe: - Clans and their research weapons - The relic system - Prime variations - Syndicates - Cetus - Eidolons - Thumper - Fortuna - Profit taker - Exploiter - Zaw - Kitgun - the Pet/Sentinel systems - Riven mods - Arbitration - Sanctuary Onslaught - The Entirety of Lua - Operator Schools - A number of different warframe locked behind some of the things mentioned above. - Hunting/Fishing - Invasions - And last but not least, the G R I N D While I understand that from an outside perspective, 55 hours may seem unreasonable to be called "haven't played the game", but warframe is one of those games that doesn't condense everything you need to know in one tutorial before throwing into its world and nothing more, you play and discover more during almost your entire time playing, 55 hours of gameplay, if you know what you're doing (which this guy probably doesn't, because he needs to concentrate on his own game) , will get you around MR5 . Your need to reach MR16 to be able to experience everything the game CURRENTLY has to offer. So yeah, 55 hours is actually not substantial when it comes to warframe, at all. Sorry for the rant. :P

the devs for MechWarrior 5 (Piranha Games) do topic specific AMA on a monthly basis (if im not mistaken), and when asked questions not related to the current talked topic, if they've already covered the same topic previously they would refer to the old stream or just give a simplified answer, or if it's about something that they would cover in the future topic they would say so. personally i don't see a problem with that.

There was a time i looked at the game informer issue that have the interceptor frame(the speedy green one) and I was interested about it. Turn the clock forward a bit and the beta came out, however with life stuff I couldn't play it and heard mixed messages about it from friends. Finally the Game launched and it was a mess to putt it bluntly/nicely. Here we are now, I've watched the cutscene s, gameplay, story. In context ive played and stayed with FFXIV since 1.0. So I'll wait until the swan song plays.

I bought the game and had a lot of fun I found to many glitches one even fully prevented me from finishing a required story mission. “It was fixed the next day but it was frustrating.” I really really hope they fix it. as I love it as a game.

I still haven't beaten DA: Inquisition, it had the bones of a good RPG but missed the mark. I'm fairly certain that EA is the root of all the problems we experience.
