30 days ago my husband suffered a heart attack. I saw him suffer the awful pain, fall to teh floor, and turn purple. At 68, I was not strong enough to turn the 250 lb man over from face to back, but somehow I did it. Then I worked like holy blazes to force his heart to pump until the emergency services arrived at our home. He did not recover and his life was ended. He had an alcohol habit for the 45 years we were married. I am heart broken at the loss of my life mate. He paid for his alcohol consumption with perhaps 20 years of life. What a cost for myself and our four children left to mourn him.

Since I stopped drinking alcohol about 2 years ago, I’ve seen dramatic improvements in my fitness and overall wellbeing. It’s the way to go, together with smaller food portions, mainly plant based.
@tez4792Ай бұрын
Smaller portions is what I struggle with. I like to eat big meals and I eat fast.
@David-vn4quАй бұрын
I’ve definitely seen a difference when I eat smaller meals but more nutrient dense foods I don’t find meat a problem. But obviously not too much of it. Sugar and processed foods and smaller carbs/ starches. Seems to be a game changer for me. Obviously not do away with carbs completely. But eating good quality pasta with homemade sauces or even a pizza with sourdough bread gives me that life quality of the pleasure I get from food.
@stevelanghorn1407Ай бұрын
Excellent explanation, thanks. Dr Robert Lustig has interesting things to say regarding the damaging effects of sugars / carbohydrates particularly on our Liver. Alcoholic drinks are also often high in carbs...so this combined with the Ethanol is a bad combination...sadly!

when i was 14, i drank a bottle of whiskey in a few minutes. I blacked out and woke up in bed the next morning. I was so sick. All day i threw up anything i tried to eat or drink and my heart was pounding all day. My heart pounded so hard that when i laid on the bed, the bed would shake. It was late in the evening before i could keep anything down and my heart stopped pounding. I should have been in a hospital. Wonder i didnt died from it.

I’m 88years old, if my bp is under 150 systolic I am happy. I am taking candesartan 24 mgs, have decided to refuse taking medication that ruins my ordinary life with dreadful side effects. I do tai chi every day, don’t drink alcohol or eat refined carbs, and find life enjoyable. I see the effects on people who eat lots of sweet sugary food and drink alcohol regularly, and it is not nice.

I know at least 3 men who have slammed down a 6 pack of beer a day for 20 years or more and seem to be fine.. I'm in my 50's now and I hardly drink at all, except for an occasional beer or two.. In my 40's I put down quite a bit of beer nearly every single day.. I mainly stopped because I just don't like the tired crappy feeling I get from drinking, especially after the initial feel good buzz feeling wears off and the hangover effects take hold..
