Good tour! My favorite mall of all time. I use to go there on my day off when I got my first full time job in 1969. Me and my friends went to Yorktown just to walk around and hang out. Ate at Magic Millers Pizza. Bought clothes at the Gap. Bought sporting goods at Woolworths and the other Sporting goods store, as well as Wards. That was 1970-72. Good memories of when I was single. Bought tires at Wards Auto repair at the SW corner of the mall parking lot. My brother worked at Bar & Flame which was in the strip mall behind Yorktown in the 70’s. Bravo!

This mall used to have a Caribou Coffee along the escalater. It was awesome. That was one of my favorite coffee shops ever. RIP Caribou.

I remember the kids area they used to have, a huge tree house with a slide, right next to the train. It was so fun, they don’t have it anymore. 😢

Wow. Haven’t been to Yorktown in years. I grew up near there and lived there as a kid/teen/young adult. SO many fond memories. Going way back to the late 70’s I remember we’d get dropped off with a little bit of money. I recall eating at Magic Miller Pizza. Then 31 Flavors. I remember going shopping with my mom at Wieboldt’s which is now Von Maur. Cretors hot dog stand was awesome. Great popcorn. There was a Woolworth’s there which was like a Walgreens. There was a restaurant on the top floor that was really dark. There was another floor upstairs that we’d go to and you could get cups of soda from a fountain machine. I think Wieboldt’s top floor. When I was a teen I remember shopping at Madigan’s. That was my first credit card. I also shopped at Casual Corner. When the McDonalds went in next door it was a big deal. Casual Corner smelled like French fries all the time. There was The Gap, The limited, The County Seat, Chess King, Kinney Shoes, the list goes on. Yes it has improved but nothing will compare to the old days.

Glad Yorktown has Von Maur to help it. Wishing this mall could have gotten a Dillard's or something to go where the Carson's was. Thought that was pretty neat and grateful multiple people filmed that.

I have been to every mall in the DuPage county area, and that one I have the most fond memories of, going there as a little kid with my Dad & brother... into a barber that was in the mall. Glad to see the mall is still doing alright, unlike so many others across the US.

Woodfield Mall is NOT just up the street from Yorktown. Oakbrook Center is about 15 minutes away on a good traffic day.

I like that mural at 8:53. They did a similar one at Glenbrook Square here in town.

I feel like this mall has gone downhill even more ever since Carson left. I feel like it's peak was around the 2000s.

What financial shape is YM in? [Edit: I ask because even though about a third of the way into the video you mention it's 'thriving', you also mentioned before that several shops and stores had closed down and got replaced by other shops, or got demo'd and re-developed into apartments. Some malls might have good traffic and look busy, but be failing incrementally; I suspect that might be the case here. This might be the proverbial 'do-or-die' situation for YM. I can only speculate; you can probably find out more than I can.]
@mallaholicretailadventures5 жыл бұрын
It's still doing well. It's not in bankruptcy or anything like that, but they do need to fill the empty Carson's anchor. It was busy when I did this a few weeks back. It seems these older established malls are doing better than the newer ones. A very high income area.
@mallaholicretailadventures5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I agree it can be deceiving seeing a lot of people, but we also have to look at what's in their hands too. Back in the 90s everybody you see would have a marshall fields or a Carson's bag in their hand. I guess looking back at the video this isn't the case. Just people aimlessly walking in a mall. Von maur was busy though as well as penneys, but are people walking with bags.
