My mom theorized he saw the boys as competition when they got older. There's a reason why sayings like "Daddy's little girl" and "Mama's boy" exist. He definitely wasn't the protective type either. My mom was much more worried about how I interacted with men than my dad was. Then again, I was much more like him in personality and had the same interests so it could have also been an ego thing. Feel bad for the dude who lost his ex. There's something special I hold with my first love and although me and her didn't work (could never work) we still have love for one another. I love her just as much as my siblings, like family. There's been times where she's needed me and I will come out for her.
