Even his outward willingness to change is actually an act of empty vanity. It's false humility. He's waiting for her to object to anything he does, so that he can say, ''Welp - I tried!'' That way he can declare that the relationship problems must be her fault after all. This type of gaslighting is more cruel and insidious than the open ridicule. It drives the person on the receiving end of it near to insanity. Don't Walk - run.

Ugh. Married 13 years here. He has yelled at me for years. I got in therapy and finally got strong enough to tell him I was close to done. He said he’d go get help, went to 4 visits and then got mad because I couldn’t just accept the “new” him. It’s crazy I know but hard to call it quits. Sounds so so familiar. Bless this guys wife.
