The first beautiful lady was kinda unique right from the way she marched in. She reminded me of at least 3 actresses, one being Debbie Reynolds, she was full of amazing confidence, and she never kept still.

The Swami of Salami corrected Groucho's pronunciation, not Atoon but Antoon. Of course, Groucho forgot immediately, and so did George Fennemen.

Appears the two companies Kay mentioned are still in business. There are vintage clothes from the '60s online labeled Kay Cantonwine Originals by Margie Webb. She was 27 at the time of this show.

Interesting how her vintage women's clothing is from a decade _after_ she appeared on YBYL. If her vintage clothes in 1959 were also from 50 years in the past, they would have had lots of long skirts (but teasingly rising above the ankle), draped fabrics, higher waistlines and plenty of hats (both broad brimmed or close fitting, often with a veil).

How ironic was the quiz category chosen by the second couple? That round could have been dubbed "Name That Atoon"! The first incarnation of Name That Tune had gone off the air in 1959 (same year as this episode) when CBS dropped a lot of their quiz shows in the wake of the scandals that came to light around that time on shows such as $64,000 Question, Twenty One and Dotto. Groucho obliquely alludes to the fallout of the quiz show scandals when he mentions "plateau" on this episode. An interesting side note, when the prime time versions of quiz shows were taken off the air, they were often replaced by a growing favorite TV genre, westerns. What I also found interesting is that in most episodes with a music quiz, Groucho would give a clue as to the song's identity, letting Jack Meakin know which song the orchestra should play. This is the first time (perhaps only time?) that Groucho simply identifies which song should be played by a letter ("A", "D" and so on).

Groucho was the funniest host ever on TV. His quick wit and ability to ad lib makes people like Leno and Letterman look like idiots, who relied almost entirely on screenwriters. Carson was a cut above, but wasn't in the same league as Groucho, and today's buffoons like Fallon, Conan or Kimmel are just laughable to even try and compare to him. Groucho's producer was superb at picking guests who were always so quirky which made for great fodder for Groucho's innate sense of humor.
@MrMenefrego1
@MrMenefrego1 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything except your assessments of Leno and Letterman. Fallon and the rest of the current leftwing liberal haters aren't worthy to kiss Groucho's ass, but Letterman and Leno could hold their own.

According to public record, Kay Cantonwine would have been 27 at the time of this show, but she looks to be in her late forties, early fifties. Maybe it’s the hair. She pranced around like a teenager and it looked weird because she looks so much older.

You might find very interesting about the show it's funny. Is a problem that I have with it Groucho Marx I believe is sexually addicted question is not one thing that can say to a woman who it out some sexual condensation and then is another thing these two people now in this situation if you look at the go she's every dumb because the guy answers all questions she answers maybe one question at the the game I guess with the money so she is nothing but stand. And only around while the guy is answering all the questions give think that's fair I would next any questions just walk off the job in most situations and most shows I've been watching on you bet your life there are quite a few intelligent women but a lot of cases when don't and set any questions at all they just stand there and look adoringly while demand answer the questions and that men when they guess what the money with this girl doesn't know what time of today it is you think that's fair I still watch the show anyway I think it's funny but back in those days Groucho got away with a lot of stuff if he would to do today what he's doing then he would be surrounded with lawsuits him together a team of lawyers is everything he says to Moses women has some sexual suggestion to it but it was a very good show for the time people accepted with other he did and his is a contested the man or the woman did not mind if either or know any of the questions and you split the money with somebody does not know anything did not answer one question at all you think that's fair when I was young man I didn't know any better I watched this show but now when I look at it Groucho Marx my been funny in it is time when he was not funny on that show cause he did nothing but himself women at least that's when I felt
