You Bought The Wrong Camera... Now What?

Do you get offended when someone criticizes your gear? Did you not research your purchase? Were you not confident in it? Do you really need someone else's validation to make you happy? If someone doesn't like your camera or lens, and makes fun of Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji, Panasonic or Olympus, are you really that weak minded that you now question your own gear that you once loved? This is a response video to Vahagraphy who got offended when I said the Nikon 85mm f1.2 doesn't have 3D pop, which is doesn't, like most modern lenses. Be happy with what you have...

I kinda prefer Kasey's approach. He's not a photographer who done it all, and he's showing what amateur like him can do with the gear. Which is more valuable for me then, guy with 1000 years of experience showing me what he can do, not sharing his workflow (because it's his trademark secret). So he claims I can have results like him, but since I do not have 1000000 years of experience like he does I won't have similar results. So I just end up buying 4k lens, and my results are shitty :D.

I realized long ago that KZbin is full of "experts" who assume that because they have some experience or knowledge consider themselves as the lone authorities and custodians of truth on the subject matter. Photography channels are full of these characters. The simple truth is many of them spend their time imitating others and whose names are not even listed in the realm of "great photographers". You just keep doing what you do: Don't let these "wannabe" experts stifle your message and point of view.

Most modern lenses are just a scam. Software correction in mirrorless is a downhill battle for the marketing executives to steal your money from your pocket. Most are so awful you wouldn´t believe it. And way more expensive than the SLR / DSLR era...

Don't listen to those negative people, and thank you for your workmanship. I use a 12 years old original OMD EM-5 Olympus camera with some kit lenses and I have couple of new digital primes and a few vintage mf primes. My system is outdated and cheap compared to what most people purchase now days, but I'm disabled veteran and living on "low" fixed income and I can't afford anything else, I'm content and happy with my Olympus camera, great jpegs right out of the camera and beautiful color science. Most importantly not the gear what is most important but the knowledge and capabilities of the photographer behind the camera! I agree 💯 with you on the statement you made about the 3D pop and thank you for the video!👍💯❤👍

I watch your channel specifically because it's fun and has some knowledge sprinkled in. People get too hung up on specs and what is the best... who cares? It's what you like. I have three Canons, love the color, and the shots I get. Want to show off photos you get with a different brand? Cool, let's see what you're proud of shooting. My "best" camera, the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, is also my least used because it was expensive, and I'm afraid of messing it up. Most of my photos are from bike rides in nature. My favorite camera for just being out and about is my EOS M200 with the 22mm pancake lens. Cue the camera junkies with their "it's a dead system, bro, it's APC, bro...". I don't care; it's lightweight and compact, and the best camera is the one you have with you. My EOS M50 Mark II is my video camera because it has a mic input, 1080p, yeah, not 4K but still looks good to me, and I'm the one watching the videos along with my family. I prefer older systems because the used market is massive, making jumping around and trying different lenses much cheaper. I got every lens Canon made for the M mount and all the aftermarkets as well. All used, all for a good price. Need older glass? No problem, simple adapter, and now I have tons of access to cheap used lenses that have a distinct look modern glass sometimes lacks due to the insane need for sharpness. Keep up the fine work, I enjoy every video you drop.

But really some Oster 76 are a lifteme investment and just shave your head yourself. If you mess up, in two weeks, no one will know the difference. About the 3d pop thing of that Nikon lens: I don't see a problem there. That guy who it's about for some part in the video bought the lens, he is happy with it and talks about some 3d pop. All that stuff reminds me of CD audio vs. mp3 which was a big thing some decades ago. People said "I can tell you the difference between a 320 kbps mp3 and CD audio right away!" Blind tests showed though that there just was no audible difference. But still... to each his own, right? If the guy who loves his lens for the 3d pop, then why not? Maybe I'm overseeing something and he has just better eyes. I think we just shouldn't say things like "he just doesn't get it, but i do!" Who cares in the end? The tech has become so good in the past years that I think this shouldn't be so much anymore what it's about. Rather the story and stuff... I don't know

This channel opinion feels honest. I do agree the reviews are not super technical, but the images shown give a good overall idea of what you can get the equipment "out of the box". This Olympus review/showcase i.e. others would probably use it with a gimbal to show you what awesome takes you can get, which is just not how the gear would be used IRL. I own the nikkor 85mm 1.2 and what you showed is exactly what I get without heavy grading, presets or masking. So im more confident with the examples shown in this channel. If 3d pop exists or not it's hard to tell, but that Voightlander 58mm 1.4 does look special stopped down.

the little olympus SZ is not bad at all. In good lightning like this sunny day you walk around, with some contrast correction and put it on a trypot, and turn down the sharpness -3 you ready to go. no cromatic abaration as i see, and clear object seperation. The movement of the Trees looks little wired, but it's a unique effect...

I agree on the older lenses. I like older lenses using slide film with medium format, but that world it's a lot slower. You left out that in order to get that 3D pop, the lenses need to have all lead glass elements and they need to be primes, like Nikon AI and AIS lenses. The D lenses, which are the first screw drive focus lenses, are still in that micro contrast realm. Unless you want to control every situation all the time, like manual focusing, to eliminate fringing and flare, these lenses are great if you bring a tripod. If you're running around the block and across the street, I don't think you'll be happy with the stability or the focusing. If you're out of focus at all, it shows up in your images a lot quicker (with the older lenses) when shooting with 45 megapixels. I have old lenses, and they are great, but it takes a lot more effort to dial in everything correctly-lights, focus, and composition-in order to get that pop with the older lenses.

I think my 3D-Pop-Sensory-System isn´t quite activated just yet! If a lens is sharp, gives me pleasing bokeh and colors, doesn´t have crazy amounts of distortion or CA... it´s 3D-popish enough for me. If I want a certain look, I take the RAW-files into LR.

Went to check out the mafia boss and was thankful for the playback speed up feature -- some public speakers have a great flow, but others (like myself) need to work at it. Anyway, kinda hilarious beef if you ask me. Casey is a unique voice, and while hilarous and self deprecating is one of the top reviewers IMO. I don't always 100% agree on everything but always come away having learned something while also being wildy entertained! Mafia boss pivoting the response vid to demand apology from some rando commenter was pricelelss. Please keep the beef going. 🙏

yt deletes or hides all kind of comments even if you approve them. It is a lens that looks great but it is expensive and obtrusive, which is hard to justify for me personally. Ideally I want stuff that fits in my pocket but if my yt ever takes off then I might invest in something like that for shooting b roll and stills, and maybe talking head from 30 feet away.

Big fan of the channel Kacey, and look forward to most of your videos. In this case I think maybe you have put a little too much emphasis on 3d pop. Personally, I think this lens renders images beautifully, and they look very 3d to me. Maybe you should do another comparison video using it showing what you mean specifically by if rendering flat. I’m guessing you returned it already though which is a shame. I am also guessing that like the guy who is bias for owning it, you’re also bias toward it due to the cost of it to an extent.

Vahagraphy is plenty annoying, no doubt about that. But he's right about the Z 85mm f/1.2. By far the best looking videos on the channel came from that lens. Kasey, God love ya - but I'm convinced u wouldn't know the fake term "3D pop" from the ghost of Julius Caesar. "It's flat rendering!" while u slpbber over some lenses a.) ur convinced u like because u got them on the cheap despite how they actually produce; lousy toneh, vomit inducing colors, pasty gray facial features, or b.) the ones you are convinced you have to swear by, just because they say Zeiss or Voightlander on them (never mind if they are any good...)

@@alphaandomega2709 I believe Nikon has a bright future if they can correctly incorporate RED technology into their cameras. What we have seen so far from Nikon has been too far in development to have RED inside, but I do believe the next 12 months we should start seeing more fruit bear to that acquisition.
