Love it. Bart, if played your way and you 3-bet it on the flop, villain calls, turn goes check-check, how do you play the river? Call a small bet, fold to a jam? Folding to a jam seems exploitable unless you sometimes check back the ace of clubs on turn.

"Hero’s large bet sizes on the turn and river were his undoing" I kind of disagree. Due to the large bet sizes he could and should have easily folded the river. Why would you check raise bluff the river in a low stakes game? Everyone checks back their thin value hands so when you do face a river bet, half the time it's the stone nuts and you'll get snap called, and the other half the time, he's bluffing you, so you would only need to check raise bluff to get him off king high when you have jack high. But if that's your plan, better to bet yourself since there's no guarantee he's going to bluff you with the best hand.

Hero had the chance to save his money on the river. But the interesting part is how his hand plays against the other parts of his opponent's range. Against sets, overpairs, 2 pairs, he's losing value by not 3-betting the flop. Against worse flushes, losing value by not 3-betting the flop. Against the stiff ace of clubs, losing value and protection by not 3-betting the flop. With 2 suited cards you only flop a flush 1 in 100 times. With 2 fewer clubs it's less than that. And as another commenter noted, the big AX of clubs are 3-bet for sure, it's just really unlikely that both players flopped a flush, god bless him. Get the money in on the flop, yeah, you're losing to the tippy top of your opponent's get it in on the flop range but you're crushing the rest of that range, all sets, all overpairs, all top pairs with the ace of clubs, all stiff ace of clubs.

I was the villian in hand. Once the 4th club came, I was pretty sure he had a big club that he was going to bet and hopefully call with. I raise the flop to build the pot and to give other flushes, sets, etc a chance to raise me back. I'm only bluffing there when I think he has a club that cant call all in. Once he bets 300 on river never I'm never bluffing.I hit quads the hand before and I think hero may have thought two nuts in a row? Either way a cooler, Don't think it was a terrible call but in hind sight pretty obvious I have the nuts.

How does it feel to be a villain? lol.......I keep thinking to myself as the hero, what can my opponent have? The Q is on the table, I have the K. So, for my opponent to bluff off his entire stack, he has to have at best the Jack.......would my opponent really bluff off his entire stack with the A and K out there and me betting the entire way? I might have played the hand in a similar fashion to the hero up until the river check. I would have checked back figuring you had the A of clubs, and being quite ok with taking down a good pot and not getting the maximum if you don't.......either way, I avoid getting jammed on when I don't have the nuts........but as you said, the hand with quads prior might have influenced his decision making too.

Why not check the turn? Save money versus the Ac, maybe get looser calls on the river or maybe even pick off a weird bluff. Free cards are probably not a big risk after the turn. How often does he have two pair on 952, even versus the button min-raise? He probably doesn't flat 99 very often. He check-raised small on the flop too. That seems weighted towards flushes and the Ac. He might call small twice with a lower flush, but you could just bet bigger on the river and get the same value.

Look, this was a live game, so one has to be at the table to properly judge what’s right move. Like: seeing more than just that one hand to understand many relevant. In your stated approach here, would it matter if the board is 3-flush vs. 4-flush? (I'm relatively inexperienced compared to most who watch and comment here, so it's a genuine question for you and anyone else). @@Eighthousand sometimes winning the minimum and/or losing the minimum is not always a bad thing. Sometimes the board just doesn’t run out in a way to where you can get max value, it’s just max pain. I’m okay with all of the hero’s bets, until the river. Here’s my thoughts, any set is check calling hoping they can see a cheap river to hope to pair the board and any middling club just sigh folds. With the hero betting on the river, the hands I just described would fold anyways, due to lack of showdown value (set losses to any club) and only A of club calls/raises you on that river, so hero donated $900 that he didn’t have to. There’s a strong likelihood that villain leads out for $300 and hero could either sigh call/fold. The call of the check raise is just an unnecessary donation. Those are the hands that truly make a difference in our poker sessions. Villain got a massive payoff and hero made a massive punt.

The minraise is a problem because it brings in all kinds of Ax hands, like Bart said. Middling suited aces like Ac8c makes sense. I think it's a similar mechanism as with not letting AA go on a board with four-to-a-straight or flush.

@14:00 "How could he bluff here. If he doesn't have the A of clubs he just can't do it". I sympathize with this mentality but you have to understand many villains KNOW THIS which suddenly makes a bluff possible because if YOU the hero have, say, 10 clubs or even J clubs you might fold. People aren't always worried that they're beat. They SHOULD be but everyone just doesn't play that way. There was a pretty famous hand between Daniel Negreneau and Tom Dwan. Tom had the nuts, a full house and Daniel shoved on the river. Tom snap called and when Daniel saw his hand he said "Ah, that's the hand I was repping". So here villain could shove without the nuts simply repping it. If you don't have the A of clubs in your hand you have to fold. Nonetheless I'm definitely folding here and Hero did this to himself he should have made a huge reraise on the flop. A flopped flush is such an underrepped hand almost nobody is giving you credit for that hand. But another club would either kill your action or kill you.

Actually looking back now this is just a straight fold. What I said would only apply if hero had checked the river or bet small. But betting $300 on that river - only a complete maniac would shove.

I would have led out as well, it hides that you hit the flush. It would look like you had a pair or a flush draw. I would have re-raised him after he re-raised on the flop with the hope of getting it all in but would have been when I saw he had the nuts flush. It's just one of those bad days at the table!

Once I saw a guy 4 bet a 4 card flush board on the river as a bluff, but I think he must have seen his neighbor fold the ace. The 3 bettor was bluffing too. 7s9dJd3d2d board flop c/c turn c/c river, pot(20) bet 12, raise to 37, reraise to 107, 4bet to 465, fold, 4 bettor shows 86 no diamond. 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 4 bettor was a super rich Dubai guy.

3 betting the flop looks like a weak flopped flush, and youre betting for protection.

The game is truly maddening. If the Button never makes his goofy min raise and just folds, this hand never happens. The blinds just chop. Both the SB and BB are calling $5 with basically any two, and of course they flop the nuts and the second nuts. Its wild. A friend of mine likes to say “the cards are very mysterious” I have to agree. These spots happen way more than one would think they should.

If button folds SB can raise right? I’d imagine SB would elect to open with A8cc. That’s a big hand heads up!

Brad 3beting the flop is obviously super strong. It's a mid stakes game. 3betting flop probably means you won't stack the opponent.

My reaction as Bart is explaining his flip play: there’s almost no way the SB can have the but flush on the flop. Anything suited A10+ is getting three bet PF and most the other suited aces are getting 3 bet PF against the min click too. MAYBE the SB just calls with a baby ace wheel draw, but there’s only two combos of those left and 3 other mid club aces available at any rate. The overwhelming majority of Ac left here is unsuited and that hand is a trivial raise for the SB. Gotta attack.

@@adamseidel9780 Alot of fishy plays scared to 3bet out of the small blind with A8s... would rather just flat and see the flop mentality.

There is a straight flush draw out there. You are talking rubbish. I think you mean there is no str8 flush there. But there is a str8 flush draw there.

It's funny how hero says that he kept betting big because villain was keep checking to him and therefore hero thought villain wouldn't have the nuts...... But why SHOULDN'T villain be checking the nuts if hero is betting so big as a response to the checks.
