I really hate when people say why build a bike when you buy one. For me it would be very nice and informative to build a bike. That way I would probably learn so much more about how my machine works! yes I can buy a new bike but I would still buy upgrades! that’s what motorbike riders do to create the ride much more comfortable and personal that way to keep the confidence up! nice video and channel!!!

As with all your videos, well done! The advantage to building your own bike-you get exactly what you want. Years ago I built up a steel-frame, Haro 29er hardtail w/X9 components, Avid BB7 mechanical discs and a Tora fork. A little more expensive than buying a bike off the rack, but for me, the bike is perfect. 6 years of riding, and I never regret it.

I build my first bike as a 12-years old, a cheap Chinese 10-speed with 24" wheels, with the help of my dad. Since then I have always done my own servicing, except for wheel truing, an art I'm beginning to learn. There's nothing like the feel of riding a bike you have built yourself!

This is an excellent video. I’m going to build my wife a bike soon, and the biggest thing that I have trouble with with spike work is finding the right parts. Excellent community project based off this video, kids putting a little money, or sponsorship/ work programs for broke kids, for parts and a few tools, building themselves their own bike Which would then give them transportation, some accomplishment, and also 3/4 of the way to be able to maintain it as they built it. They would have a good reliable transportation with means of maintaining.

Imho derailleurs have no number of shifts limitation. Rather it’s ratio must match a shifter, and a length much match the biggest cog size (that sometimes is manageable with a hanger)

Also, now in 2023 many MTB components are BOOST size (wider spacing). So you must take this into account when specifying the crankset and bottom bracket, the front forks, front and rear wheel hubs, and the rear frame dropouts. They must all be compatible sizing.

Careful with Sram GXP, because the axle is 24mm drive side and 22mm on the non drive side. It's truly important because a sram crankset will not fit into a shimano BB because it's 24mm on both sides.
