The corrupt politicians who draft these bills probably have someone else write them, and have them make up and hide the most nonsensical things so it requires no research, no one looks into it, and it costs the most. When all that money goes to a "pretend cause," it is easier to preserve the full amount of the funding, which goes directly from the institute back to the politicians in the form of kick-backs, and "campaign donations." And that's where the theft of our taxpayer dollar really occurs.

The last balanced budget by any President was submitted by Democrat Bill Clinton; the Congress of the United States simply ignored it, and both Republicans and Democrats were guilty of that. It's not easy getting grants for such work. Corporations do proliferation work, marketing and manufacturing the tech for profit. This is the trend most of the time. The toilet, I believe, is the diagnostic device used to monitor texture and chemical composition of crap and/or urine of the patient. (Waste seems to have important medical and biological info in it.) It would save on nursing and other costs, once it is deployed. I don't think socialism is a choice or a danger in this country, though the whacko far left might dream of it. The European style socialized medicine (safety nets, etc) is not a threat to capitalism. I've yet to meet a Democrat billionaire (I've only met three, all Democrats) who was real thrilled about communism or socialism. Same goes for countries like Norway--capitalists to the teeth. But where that system falls short (as with basic research and with unfortunate), Norway tweeks it in such a way that it benefits everyone, even from the perspective of capitalism. It's not a religion. At least, I don't think it is.
