1:32 The real reason behind your weight loss stall
2:43 Symptoms of high insulin
5:12 Insulin triggers and what to do
10:33 Learn more about insulin resistance!
A slow metabolism isn't what's causing your slow weight loss, and this wrong diagnosis can completely derail your progress.
You have various chemical reactions going on in the body, like breaking food down into energy, building things back up into body tissue, repairing, maintaining temperature, and eliminating waste. All of these things are a part of metabolism.
But, the real missing factor is the hormone influence over your specific calories. Hormones are basically the communication system in the body.
A very important hormone that's related to whether or not you'll burn or store fat is insulin. If insulin goes up, you store fat. If it goes down, you burn fat. If insulin is too high, that will mimic a slow metabolism. Instead of trying to fix a slow metabolism, you may want to focus on lowering your insulin to boost fat burning.
Symptoms of high insulin:
• Increased hunger
• Cravings for carbs
• Frequent urination (especially at night)
• Fatigue
• Cognitive issues
• Lowered mood
• Increased belly fat and liver fat
• A high set point
• Increased gluconeogenesis (your liver makes excess sugar)
The top triggers of insulin:
• Carbohydrates
• Sugar
• Frequent eating
• Excess protein in the diet
• Fake fibers
• Stress
• Inflammation
• Belly fat
• MSG
• Lack of sleep
How to decrease insulin:
1. Get on the ketogenic diet
2. Do fasting
3. Exercise
4. Consume natural fiber from vegetables
5. Consume fat in your diet
6. Take vitamin B1, potassium, and vitamin D
7. Consume apple cider vinegar

Agree 100%. If I don't do my total body resistance workouts at least 4 days a week plus a good old fashioned walk I don't lose as much weight, if any. If I average more than 40g carbs a day in a week, same thing. Your diet plan plus the exercise is the key.

So true! I’m a dancer and you would think I’d be able to maintain weight. Nope, then I learned that since I dance everyday, I can’t even count it in my workout routine because I will dance numerous times a day. Think in terms of needed food to survive, dancing is like food to my body… it does not care, it is like breathing, basically my body is not impressed 😂.It is like therapy for me, along with my love for it. Once I added light weights (I have MS so I can’t be a bodybuilder 😆) I noticed change. A bigger change came when I followed Dr. Berg’s advice about vitamin D (I’m introverted and barely go outside), potassium, magnesium, and any fasting method… showed the move obvious changes. Especially, in fatigue! And fatigue is one of the main symptoms in multiple sclerosis.

I have been watching Dr. Berg’s videos for about a year. I started GRAIN FREE January 16th, 2022, and have lost 45 pounds through that change and not eating anything from a restaurant at all. Not once have I gone to The Golden Arches or Freckled Faced Pigtail’s or Any Other Chain Food. I don’t eat from anywhere other than my cooking anymore. I workout 2 to 3 times a week and would have lost more weight if I had paid attention to stress and cortisol causing insulin resistance. Today’s video is where I leave behind only using two things to reshape. Today I will commit to not only no grains, and some exercise to Intermittent Fasting, daily workout, better sleep and reducing my stress, no grains, no sugar, no food from nowhere that I don’t prepare. My goal is fat free and healthy. I won’t eat from other’s because they won’t respect my wishes to avoid cooking with canola or corn or soy. I also believe that medicines can effect your IR and I try to avoid them. Thanks for this video it is a inspiration and has everything to change your life. I applied some of it’s principles and discovered that the IF and Keto and Stress reduction and Sleep are just as important as avoiding grains and other peoples cooking. I'm very glad that you mentioned how caffeine is contributing to insulin resistance by stressing the adrenals. If you're pre-diabetic/insulin resistant and have tried fasting and zero carb/low carb, are exercising, taking potassium, B vitamins, vitamin D, and ACV but are still having trouble losing weight, eliminate the caffeine and herbs from your diet. Even small amounts of caffeine and herbs can greatly interfere with insulin sensitivity.

31 year old 5.7ft male here. Been stuck in a 85-86kg(~190 lbs) zone for so long now. I've been having high fat and less than 20gm carbs for almost 4 weeks now and I'm down to 80kgs (~176 lbs). I have a cup of black coffee with coconut oil and ghee when I wake up. My first meal is around 2pm and is almost always 3 eggs cooked in butter, some cheese (usually goat cheese if I have some), and bacon. My second meal is around 7-8pm and is a salad with a mustard dressing or balsamic vinegar - Romaine lettuce, cucumber, some carrots, garlic (I love garlic). I sometimes add a little protein in the salad to make it feel more fun. Like little bits of chicken. This repetitive diet might get boring for some but I can have the same thing everyday with tiny variations and still enjoy it. Sometimes instead of the salad, I stir fry vegetables with some spices and it feels like a different meal. It's not only about weight loss at the end of the day. This diet also makes me feel better overall. I don't feel stuffy after meals, there's no burping (gas), I don't wake up feeling lethargic anymore. I just feel good overall. All thanks to this channel!

Hey Eric, I watch you often and find your advice helpful. I was the victim of wrong diagnosis for decades and suffered thru treatment after treatment with no success. I was on a low carb diet, went to the gym and did weights or cardio five days a week and did rollerblading 3-4 times an evening. I was wearing a size 6-8 but still had heavy legs, thick ankles and a thick midsection comparatively to the rest of my torso. Eventually responsibility took over and I couldn’t do this regimen. I developed significant pain in my ankles, legs, joints and went on disability. The misdiagnosis continued. I finally said enough and stopped going to doctors except when necessary. Recently my niece convinced me to try treatment again for my “lymphedema.” The therapist saw me for five minutes and said, you don’t have lymphedema, you have lipedema. Everything fell into place. Now I know why the treatment I had was unable to help. Why I couldn’t get that fat off me. Why I have so much pain! Because I was misdiagnosed for so long I did develop some lymphedema and venous insufficiency in my legs. Now it’s more complicated. I am one of the lucky ones in that I am not morbidly obese with these fat globules all over my body. Some (primarily female,) individuals are just completely incapacitated by it. The only effective treatment is lymph-sparing liposuction with manual extraction of the fat globules. There’s a relationship to GI discomfort too. I am an RN and really knew nothing about this and neither did any of my doctors. Can you do some teachings on the diagnosis and treatment of this fat disorder?

This is the advice people really need to hear. I'm so sick of people telling us to "eat healthy" or "eat more frequently" to lose weight, and to be honest, that's most of the advice you find everywhere. The fact is that this method DOES NOT WORK a majority of the time, and that's why so many people fail their diets or say that they aren't losing weight even though they claim to be doing everything correctly. It's incredibly frustrating. I've seen people criticize your videos, but a majority of the problems I see are people who have poor relationship with food, such as an eating disorder. I think that people with eating disorders should avoid this because that has more to do with mental health and relationship with food.

The frequency with which I go to the bathroom has dropped significantly. I don't have as many BMs or urinating sessions since I switched over to Keto and IF. Thank you doc for shoving a flashlight down my throat in effort to stop the problems at their source: ME. I am finding I feel less tired in the mornings. I can go longer w/o eating (16/8) schedule. I naturally at this way, except I had tons of sugar and other carbs and snack in my diet that were slowing down things overall. I feel clear and more rejuvenated. Guys I was 145 , now I am 120 pounds . I will give Dr berg the review that he deserves. I was borderline diabetic in November 2023 , now in February 2024 . I’m thin but I still experiencing just a tiny bit of IR symptoms as irregular periods, urgent urination , and thirst. I can only lose five more pounds to stay in the healthy range body weight. At this point I don’t want to lose weight anymore way but keep burning liver fat . I’ll update this comment in two months . So far Keto and IF have reversed 90 percent of IR symptoms and PCOS. I guess I’ll just continue following Dr bergs steps until IR is gone .

Stress causing body to produce sugar and insuline resistence... this is what I experienced last year. I was on keto and IF since two years when 2021 brought a lot of stress at work. I started drinking strong coffee with fatty cream because I realized it was helping me not to eat for a longer time. I had no idea why I was not losing weight and even gained some. Then I learned about Berberine, also from you, dr.Berg and this has been helping me since. I admit I need to add now also exercise...but I am still in shock about how stress can ruin everything. Finally, a doctor who looks at the root cause! I love the intermittent fasting, I'm doing that right now. I eat way too many carbs (popcorn/bread) especially after I come home from work and that's usually late, then I try to do green juices. I don't eat meats but I started eating eggs, Salmon/Mackerel and I bought some organic grass fed beef the other day lol. I can't seem to get past the fat part. I hate meat fat. I would like to do a combination of daily green smoothies with no fruit, maybe just a green apple, other times I'll make it with Almond milk a banana, mixed greens, and raw cacao powder. I do use Coconut and Olive oil. It seems I just need to start adding more animal protein, I"m just afraid of clogging my arteries with the meat fat. Plus I can't seem to get below my current weight. Dr Berg how can I tweak this better?

Been following Dr. Berg for 4 months now and doing Keto + intermittent fasting and I am down 39 lbs. Make sure you get your sea salt, potassium, magnesium and D3 with K2. Lack of these important minerals and vitamins can cause horrible leg cramps. Drink plenty of water and be prepared to pee a lot. When you’re in ketosis your body we let loose a lot of stored water, especially in the begging. The first week I think I was down 7 pounds. Now I am loosing weight a about 1 to 2 pounds per week. Eat quality foods. Grass fed meats are much better than corn fed. They cost more but worth it. After you’ve been off sugars, grains, and carbs for a while your taste buds wake up. Everything has more flavor. Try it for a week and see how amazing you feel. Don’t fall into the trap of keto snacks. Most are full of soy and other inflammatory ingredients. Eat foods naturally low in carbs. Get some electrolytes without sugar. Dr berg has one on his site that’s really good. Ease into fasting. Don’t try to implement everything all at once. At first just try to eat just 3 times per day and lower carbs. Then slowly move breakfast to later in the morning until it’s your lunch time. I gave myself about a week between changes. Don’t beat yourself up if you cheat. You will recover quickly when you get back on keto. You will be reminded why carbs are bad. It’s not a sprint but a marathon, but you will see results quickly. At some point you may even get mad and wonder why isn’t this the biggest story on TV. This is they way everyone should be eating and you’ll want to spread the word. People will ask you what is going on with you. It’s exciting but at the same time I find sharing this information is almost like politics. There can be a dogmatic approach to nutrition out there and people will tell you it doesn’t work and you ruin your health. Being fat is ruining our health. Good luck.

It's still calories in - calories out. If you have an insulin resistance, you have fatigue because the glucose doesn't reach the cells where it is needed and instead the body stores it as fat, just like you say. And that sounds like maybe not a "slow" but "wrong" metabolism. You can't work out because you have no power - too little calories out because the calories in are stored away. My metabolism was completely messed up due to an extreme Vitamin D deficiency (lowest value the doctor ever saw). So I could not store/use Magnesium and other electrolytes, constantly had cramps despite taking a tonm of supplemental magnesium and other stuff, was dead tired, had to sleep twice a day for 12 hours combined. It got worse and worse over the years and I gained 8 KG. After the diagnosis, I have been taken Vitamin D supplements (plus going out in the sun) and Magnesium, Zinc, Selen, etc. Within 3 weeks I was feeling like 18 again (38 now). I have soooo much power now, like 300%. Started working out again, being way more active, watched my calorie intake a bit more and boom, those 8 KGs are gone now after 10 weeks. So probably my thiroyd and a lot more was completely messed up giving my massive fatigue aka. "slow/wrong metabolism". That's what "slow metabolism" is. It's not that the body is more efficient with the calories, it's the body getting tired and unable to be active/work out.

Heh Dr. Berg, That was very informative video. My set point changed about a year ago and no matter what I do I cannot lose the 6 lb that I gained. I know it's not much but I've always tried to maintain a healthy weight. I did a ketogenic diet for over a year and it didn't make much difference all though I felt great. At this time I intermittent fast everyday until about 1:00 and I mostly live on an omad diet. I eat my biggest meal around 1:00 and I might eat something light for dinner. I don't snack, I don't eat sugar or carbs. I do yoga and some light weights, walking. I might have to check what's going on with the liver because my diet is quite clean and I am quite confused by the weight that I can't lose. By the way, I'm 68 years old.

There is another thing that spikes insulin like crazy in which is MSG, it's in a lot of so called spices that made from China, like garlic powder and non-spicy red bell pepper powder and turns out that's purely MSG and have someone with insulin resistance to consume that for a week, you will know what makes their blood sugar worse, I had first hand experience on that, and I don't use any of spice powder anymore ever since.

I went to the gym daily and did the treadmill 30 min a day i did intervals with speed and incline kept my heart rate at 155 until it lowered to 145 at the same intensity then I would either raise speed or incline till my heart rate was 155 again and just repeated that process.
