Is it odd if Ember reminds me of both Samara Morgan from the Ring and Carrie White from Stephen King’s story? And it’s not just the fact they are all paranormal but because they all have a tragic past, both Ember and Samara are ghosts and created something in the afterlife which would affect others one being a cursed video tape and the other being a song to hypnotize people. Carrie and Ember are similar because they were both bullied/mistreated, Ember was pranked by some boy who asked her out to a date as a joke then died in a house fire after being abandoned, Carrie had a practical joke pulled on her at prom which caused her to lash out on others relasing her fury.

Something I have to bring up with this show and why I think it still resonates with fans years later is BECAUSE It didn't explain everything. (And yeah a big part of that was because it's a kids show about ghosts and they CAN'T exactly go into detail about some of the more horror elements) It explained enough about ghosts, the characters, powers, weaknesses, etc so that we could get a feel for how things worked in this world, but that's all we got, just a feel, not a ton of concrete rules were laid out for us. It told us a lot but it still kept a lot of things vague. For some fans I can totally see how this would drive them nuts and demand for more consistency and I'd be lying if I said I also didn't see problems where I think it would have been better if things were more clear, but I also think this show wouldn't have been as intriguing if they laid out all the rules. The over all concepts were so good to play around with and fans had space to do what they pleased with the missing pieces. For examples: Danny is referred to as a half ghost, we know his powers, we know how he got them but what the heck does that mean to be a "half ghost"? is he half dead? Did the ghost portal give him some sort of resurrection but only stopped half way? It seems like in the show even he doesn't fully understand, he just needs to learn control over whatever powers he gets and learn to accept he is what he is. There are so many great fan theories about what being "Half ghost" means, and what it could mean for Danny as he grows into it. Could he potentially have kids with powers? Will his ghost half change to be more ghostly as he gets older and gains more power? What ARE the ghosts exactly? Because some of them clearly had human lives and some can even pass for human and others are just monsters. Were they once alive too? But it's shown that some age and can even procreate with another like BoxLunch. This leaves open so many possibilities to come up with ideas and concepts to design your own ghosts. What is the ghost zone? We see different areas that exist as a ghost's domain but how do they get a domain? Can another ghost just take them? How many domains are out there that we havn't seen? The place used to be ruled by a king who was sealed away but are there other powerful beings like him? Who sealed him away? I love discussing the different ideas the fans have come up with. And yes I am aware that Butch Hartman is out there, pulling a JK Rolling, creating para-text for the show that no one asked for, but considering he doesn't even hold the rights anymore, his ideas arn't any more cannon to me than any other fan. I like some of his new ideas but mostly they seem limiting to me. Sorry Butch, we don't need you anymore and if we ever do get that reboot or continuation, I hope you won't be involved and instead the show runner be someone who knows how to run wild with the groundwork that's been set up. Everyone goes off on Fandoms for being toxic and I won't argue against that. They absolutely can be, but the DP phandom is filled with such creative people, taking the concepts, characters, and ideas from this show and just running away with them, making some incredible fanfics, fan comics, AUs, OCs and diverse art. The fans have taken over this series and for once, I think that's a great thing. It's not ALL good, but the phandom is a creative community that I'm proud to be apart of.
@offbeatkiki3 жыл бұрын

But I totally agree it is a very creative and fun environment to be apart of.
@Emwo3 жыл бұрын
I liked that aspect about it! it was ambiguous enough with holes where there was no concrete answer but it gave us what we needed. We knew Danny was a ghost, we knew he had powers, and that there were others like him, and theres clones in the universe. I figured his mom slept with Vlad or something for him to be half ghost because a 9 year olds knowledge about ghost biology made equally as much sense. Sam was just your average nonconformist, probably the gothiest in its time beside Daria. Never followed the fandom or community because it seemed unhealthy and obsessive, like most other fandoms but it was an enjoyable show. :)

@@offbeatkiki it was abandoned Steve Marmel wasn’t writing on the show anymore and had nothing to do with season 3. *He’s* why Danny Phantom was what it was in seasons 1 and 2. (So much wasted potential!! ;-; ) I was in high school/college when Danny Phantom aired and season 3 was such a let down. Episodes were aired out of order and a lot of us resorted to watching the Latin American dub broadcasts because they got the new episodes somehow months or weeks before we did. In regards to how out of order things were, “Urban Jungle” was the first episode broadcast of season 3. Where Danny already knew Frostbite somehow despite us not knowing the character. I recall myself and a lot of older fans really disliking the direction season 3 was going and went. It really did feel like a good majority of character growth was just tossed aside. She is nothing like the 'not like other girls' troupe in that her passions and hobbies have nothing to do with gaining anyone's approval or a disdain for other women, nor are they basic things everyone already does e.g. eating pizza. She is basically the opposite of this in essence. At worst a lot of her hobbies are an f u to her parents which is a very teenager thing to do. I think all the characters had very relatable character flaws which is what made the show so interesting to me, even if it meant they weren't always nicest friends/attentive parents/paragon superhero.

@@kelsey1467 While I do think a solid argument was made in this video. I still see her as a "I'm not like other girls" type. Maybe not so much in order to cozy up to boys, but in a way makes me think she buys into the idea that girls who do choose a more girly life style are more shallow by default. When she says she has a "Distain for anything popular" or that she likes something less if it becomes too mainstream, that makes me think she's putting too much emphasis and what she doesn't want to be rather than being entirely genuine. I'm not one who would ever get into beauty pagents and I totally agree with the problems that come with them but I also think that shitting all over someone else's passions even though they're very different from yours is a mean thing to do. No one forced Sam to sign up. We don't see any of the other contestants act mean towards her during the competition. (Just Dora) and yet when she wins she throws down the crown that DID mean a lot to the other girls right in front of them and declares, "These things are stupid". I don't care what kind of contest you signed up for, that is absolutely a mean thing to do. Also little things like her always being able to bring out a talent, skill or knowledge seemingly out of no where, irritated me. She's stated to hate sports or excersize in previous episodes and yet she's one of the best athletes of her class in the episode where she's Tucker's gym partner? I sometimes wonder why she even hangs out with Tucker or Danny, pre- ghost portal accident. Besides videogames and the fact that none of them are popular at school, they don't seem to have a ton in common. (Tucker and Danny didn't even know that they had games in common for a while). She clearly has a problem with their attitudes with how much she tries to tell them off for being immature. I wanna emphasize that this is totally just my opinion and I understand why some people would like her. I know I'm coming at her from a 2021 mindset instead of judging her in the context of when she was made, but can't help it. That's the year I live in.

When it comes to Sam, and to a lesser extent Tucker, for me they are just taken to far at times. In fairness everyone in this show is but most have more of a reason for it which makes them easier to swallow for me. When Jazz is freaking out over her parents "abusing" her brother that makes sense to me because the adult Fenton's are screw ups, when Sam is freaking out over being a vegetarian it can come off her trying to force her ideals on other people. Although that could go for most things in this show, most of it is to far and that can make it very entertaining or very annoying for me. But it normally lands on entertaining, especially the ghost and Fenton stuff.
@ChangedMyNameFinally693 жыл бұрын
The hate against vegetarians is overblown but it doesn't help that Tuck and Sam have few redeeming qualities. I remember Valerie, Danni, Jazz, and Paulina more for a reason. I also hate how they just repeat the "main character gets with weird girl instead of popular girl" trope from Fairly Odd Parents
@nahte1234563 жыл бұрын
@@ChangedMyNameFinally69 Perhaps rather then saying they have few redeeming qualities I think it's more they don't show them much. They are brave and risk there lives for people but since Danny is always the focus it never really is shown, even more so for smaller matters. And yeah while I don't mind Danny/Sam as a pairing it does feel forced I would have much preferred Valeria/Danny or giving Paulina a personality and build her up as an actual contender for the pairing. And Jazz deserves someone, I don't really care who as long as they are good just someone, maybe another girl just for the representation.

Sam is kind of a unique character (back in the day because of another certain vegan goth girl was created in another show a few years later). Sam is goth, but she is not a painful stereotype or into creepy occult stuff either. She is vegan, rich, a bit of a activist and has a bit more energy and emotion than most goth characters. Sam actually stands out from the rest, but she may not be the only one, though. Danny Phantom is not my favorite show, but I do enjoy watching it from time to time.

You forgot some of Danny's powers... like every power imaginable. Ok, he has fire powers along with those ice powers. At one point, he absorbed a lightning ghost's powers and started causing storms with his emotions. He lost that ability, but later, after being blasted by his future self, he unlocked the power that the future version blasted him with. So he absorbed that power too, and it became permanent. He had to train to make copies, so that isn't a power that comes "naturally" to him, but he still got it after trying. His future self made portals to and from the ghost zone like Vlad and Wolf could do. My point is that he seems to have the powers of every ghost. He could probably train and get a shadow-like Johnny 13 or focus on plants and make forests grow like overgrowth. My theory is that he has nearly unlimited potential because he was blasted with pure ecto energy from the portal. Most ghosts are stuck to a theme, but Danny can shoot fire and ice. He can go into the internet and can overshadow technology. He can make portals and scream so loud things are destroyed. He has almost every power that we have seen a ghost have, and there could be no limit to his powers. In fact, some ghosts gain energy from random things, so if he has the ability, he could literally gain god-level power. Ember gained energy from people saying her name, and Deserai gained power from people making wishes. What could Danny gain power from? He saved the world and has a statue in every country's capital. If he gains power from people knowing and loving him like Ember, then the series ended when he was about to transform into a god.

@@vibevibevibemcommentedtoda5717 If anything it is a theory. We have seen him use all of these powers and even gain new ones by training. Fanfics can use the idea but it fits in the show without any changes. What is the difference between him multiplying himself and any other ghost power? He complained that Dash got the power just by being infected with ghost powers. When he was practicing it and failed multiple times. That is the only power we ever see him develop through training. How many more powers could he gain if he just tried to use them? He gained the ghostly wail just because he saw it. Just by knowing it existed he gained the ability years before he should have. How many powers does he have in secret but he just never tried?

I try to rewatch Danny Phantom about annually or so, because it was a big part of my younger life, and I still have such a fondness for it (despite my hate of butch hartman) and for the characters. And yes I love Sam, and!! Valerie! I love both of them. They both have a lot of nuance a lot of people don’t recognize, at least for a cartoon in this era, though the writing can get.. messy. AND JAZZ!!!!! JAZZ I LOVE JAZZ SO MUCH. Jazz is the best character, full stop. Valerie is close, but Jazz is just such a sweetheart. AND DANI! She’s only in two episodes but I love her. I wish she got more development and we saw her more. I hate Vlad for what he did to Dani :/ (Also I can’t believe you made me watch a Sam x Danny AMV in 2021) Also!!! Re: Danny being mean to Jazz (mainly in the earlier episodes) I think he’s bitter because Jazz is the favored kid at first. Like you said, Jack said Jazz was his favorite, just straight up, and he probably always felt like they liked Jazz better at least subconsciously because she was the “better” child who got good grades and “made them proud”. He probably saw a lot of her actions as condescending, not realizing that she was just genuinely trying to help. Danny does get nicer to Jazz after he finds out she knows his secret (after working out the bumps of such a thing) and he sees how she’s actually trying to support him, and their relationship improves from there. Yes I’ve put thought into this before. Probably too much thought. This show is definitely a mess. A hot mess. It was a gigantic mess. To be fair! They don’t know half ghosts exist. I wouldn’t assume a classmate was half ghost, because, uh... ghosts are dead. Or... creatures from another dimension of you listen to season 3 and butch? Either way, not something you really assume. GOSH THERE IS SO MUCH CONVENIENCE AND DUMB PLOT CONTRIVANCES. Unexplained or confusing lore, powers popping up then never doing so again, and so much cliche stuff. But still, even with that, and how much of a headache it gives me, I still love Danny Phantom. I’ll probably always have a soft spot for this goofy show. ALSO TRANS RIGHTS!!!!

I always saw Spectra as the most evil ghost in Danny's rogue gallery. The level of sadism she displayed was pretty uncommon for the show and the whole bit with her tearing Danny apart with words until Jazz comes to his rescue was pretty well done. I feel like Johnny and Kitty were designed to look and act like the embodiments of negative teenager stereotypes. Using Jazz like that was still pretty creepy but afterwards their pretty irrelevant villains and, although nobody cares about Paulina, Kitty possessing her was pretty creepy too. Neither of them actually care much about fighting Danny or doing anything other than random hijinks. Kitty never even tries to use her magic sexism kiss outside of that one episode. Vortex was more like a force of nature than anything else. He's definitely powerful and dangerous but the one episode he's in focuses more on the comedy of Vlad having to placate Danny. Honestly unless your really sensitive or nitpicking I don't remember much about the show that I'd call offensive. Though there was one joke that I remember that seemed a bit too off color for the intended audience. It was a montage of Danny using his ghost powers and three of the events were just him leaving the girl's locker room as an invisible ghost. It was kind of funny but only in a who let this past the censors kind of way.

I also got made fun of so much in middleschool and high school for loving Danny Phantom...I still have yet to get myself to rewatch it after being so obsessed. It was a huge part of my personality growing up - I visited the 'DPOF' - Danny Phantom Online Forums EVERY DAY. I'd have to say that it was my first fandom I experienced and a big part of my childhood. Part of the thing that has caused me to have so many challenges going back to it is that I recognize Butch Hartman as a creator I don't want to support anymore. I think the flanderization of the show in the last season is a big part because of Butch taking more control of the show. The first season had amazing writing, my favorite being 'My Brothers Keeper'. Jazz is someone that I very much looked up to, and Sam was someone I wanted to be. I dressed up as Sam (in her dance dress getup) many times for Halloween.

Sam was always my favorite as I love her fierce integrity, love of her friends, and her sassy quips are top tier. This and her charming banter with Danny made me always love the couple to death, especially as it's smartly written to imply off-screen growing of the relationship between episodes. I realize now that this was really what fueled the enormous number of romantic Danny and Sam fanfics since the show's cancellation. Rewatching the show recently I've found a lot more appreciation for Jack Fenton and Dash Baxter as well, and I hope we get more of them as Gabriela Epstein's graphic novel adaptation continues.

Danny Phantom is my favorite show of all time, this was very nice to sit through. This will be a bit of a long comment, warning you now but I want to go in depth on what the show has meant for me & a little bit of my experiences surrounding it. For anyone who hates long comments, go ahead & click off now that you know the contents of it but I hope at least 1 person out there is able to sit in on me blathering on about my favorite show. How I was hooked onto it so easily, it aired just before I entered middle school. The middle school I attended started in 6th grade, the grade school I went to ended at 5th as a heads up so I had 3 years of middle school. Also, I was held back a year & I was born in September so I was more than a year older than most of the students I went to school with, did make things a bit more challenging. Watching DP helped me through it. Yeah, I was old enough to where I was able to pick up on the flaws in the series like I was 12 1/2 when Mystery Meat first aired. I didn't see it upon its very first airing, I remember the ads for the series on Nick & I was super into ghosts & loved Fairly Odd Parents so already this show should appeal to me but stupid stick in the mud me didn't want to watch it because it was inaccurate to what actual ghosts are, I was a very weird kid. I missed the premiere but did catch a rerun of the first episode sometime shortly after the first run, I know after that I caught One of a Kind when it first aired & completely missed out on Parental Bonding until much later so not sure exactly where in the timeline I saw it but I know when I caught One of a Kind airing, it was probably a week, potentially less after I saw Mystery Meat. The episode itself of Mystery Meat, I did not like. The fighting between Sam & Tucker upset me because I absolutely hated arguing when I was a kid, & I also got easily grossed out by food like I didn't like eating as a kid, the idea of it made me feel nauseous, I only ate my fill & didn't typically eat much else unless it was cookies or some sort of dessert item, that's the only time when I found pleasure in food. Seeing all that meat & stuff, it made me want to hurl but I kept watching. I'll never forget the experience of the first time I saw this series. My mom had a doctor's appointment & brought me along because I didn't want to stick around at home & be bored, instead I sat in a waiting room with nothing to do & be bored. It did have this tiny TV sitting in the corner of the room & it had Nickelodeon so I watched Spongebob while she waited to go in but after Spongebob was Danny Phantom. Nothing else good was on so I stuck with watching Danny Phantom. If the episode itself wasn't my cup of tea, what drew me in? The subplot with Danny's parents thinking Jazz is a ghost & Danny questioning if he should go to his parents about his powers then the decision at the end to not tell them, that whole thing, beautifully presented, I love how it showed the best aspect of the show for me, it was a great way to introduce it, showed the weight in Danny telling his parents with how they treated Jazz & actually, in that point in time, if Danny did tell them, I do believe it would of been a much worse outcome because they didn't know the ghost boy or any of that, even though after Danny Phantom became known, they were on the Phantom is evil train, there was still evidence to show that he's doing good & there's just more time for that to cook in the series so him being outed in the episodes it happened. Alright, I can go all day talking about if the revelation happened in certain ways or if different things would of happened because something this show has taught me is my favorite hook into a show. A secret that causes certain things to happen, if it's outed various consequences could go certain ways, & so on, I love that & it probably comes off of things from my real life stuff with my family, oh man I'm still not out of the closet to my parents even though I'm 29 & most of my friends are aware. This concept in a show, I love it, Danny Phantom helped me discover my love for it. Other shows before it couldn't really give this room to have fun with like the Wild Thornberrys, if anyone found out Eliza can talk to animals, the ability goes away so I never thought it would be out to her family, Debbie finding out in the movie was such a treat. On the topic of his secret identity, gotta throw this out there, in Phantom Planet, I fully agree that people should have connected the dots because Vlad outed himself as being half ghost, it should be obvious & I do actually believe during the special, Maddie & Jack might of actually sort of figured it out on their own like they did clap for Phantom's plan that was presented, they might of had a suspicion which is why Jazz didn't need to say much when she revealed it, Maddie was able to put the pieces together fully with what little Jazz said because the seed was already there. As to why earlier in the series why it was never figured out is because nobody was looking to figure it out. You're going to have trouble finding something if you're not looking for it in the first place & nobody has a reason to believe half ghosts exist, you even played the clip from Doctor's Disorders where Maddie said such a thing isn't real. To argue Mystery Meat, they thought Jazz was taken over or replaced by a ghost, not half ghost, there's a difference. It makes sense as to how nobody figured it out but there should be questions for sure. A good example I can point out is in the show Darkwing Duck, Drake Mallard who is Darkwing once wore his Darkwing Duck costume as himself for a party & everyone knew he was Drake Mallard in a costume because they were looking at him as Drake. When they see Darkwing on the news, in the paper, or on the streets fighting crime, they don't look to see Drake, they see Darkwing Duck. Despite Gosalyn & Launchpad being there a lot of the time which actually should be a giveaway but that's a different gripe, suppose Sam & Tucker supporting Phantom could be a giveaway but it's easier to say that they do have access to Fentonworks tech so why not use it? Weak argument but hey, at least they're not seen with Phantom often enough to raise questions, only time it should of been a huge giveaway was the scene pointed out in Phantom Planet. Sorry, I always have a lot to say on secret identities & all that, that's right within my hook. I'm not a shipper, I don't get anything out of the romance stuff but sometimes I can appreciate how it's presented & all that, I do wish the show had more time for Valerie because there's so much they could of done with her character. It also feels like there should be an episode between D-Stabalized & Phantom Planet where Valerie goes after Vlad since she learned his secret & Vlad seems to have dissed her in Phantom Planet so there had to of been something between those two within that time. This show deserves better, there's a lot of wasted potential in it & problems here & there. It's dated for the facts stated in the video & Tucker could of been written a lot better like yeah, they're teenagers, their hormones are all sorts of crazy, we get it but Tucker is more than his love for girls & gadgets. It definitely should keep the spirit & there's so much positives to work with. Back then, of course I wanted a new season but now, I'd actually prefer a reboot over anything else, it's probably best thing for the series since it can definitely thrive today, maybe some original writers, just don't bring in Butch for obvious reasons. A reboot could be a more up to date, cleaned up version but still keep the characters the same just be more careful with them. Thank you for sharing your experience with the show & for making it this far but I doubt anyone did, probably clocked out by the end of the first paragraph. I was that 1 person in school who cheered when we had to write an essay but this was super informal, probably was tough to read. At least my teachers got the cleaner, edited down, actually thought out versions. I love that this video went over so much from the series, both good & bad & that you were able to share your love for it. I'm happy that this series does have more hype around it today, I was able to buy a Danny Phantom shirt from Box Lunch (more of a eww than a yikes lol) which like finding a DP shirt in the wild was unheard of in the past, even Hot Topic only released an online exclusive shirt which I missed out on because I asked for it as like a birthday or Christmas present & my mom forgot to get it for me & I was on the belief she would & by the time I went on to order it myself, it was no longer available. It's cool that I can actually get some DP merch today, even though I missed out on the pop figure which made me feel sad, I tried but they were sold out. I don't even collect pops, I just wanted the DP one for my tiny DP collection. I just hope that people remember as great as this show was, it was far from perfect & does have issues that need to be addressed. Loved hearing it from someone else who has been a longtime phan as well.

Even though i did enjoy watching the show as a kid it did feel somewhat jarring to me seeing Butch go from a goofy comedy show with Fairly odd parents to teen action show with Danny Phantom.

He actually has less involvement with the show than youd think. Kind of like Seth McFarlane w family guy nowadays

also i believe the whole reason trans/gay topics are used as jokes or points of bullying is because the Danny Phantom creator, Butch Hartman, is christian and often makes these jokes throughout his other shows.

Thats weird....everyone where I grew up liked Danny Phantom ALOT. We had a student who drew anime and cartoon characters well and kids PAID to get drawings of Danny Phantom. I wish to meet the people who you met who didnt like them and give them a stern "talking" to.

You just brought back why I love this show so much, there's so much and it just good enough where it's amazing but as Birch Hærtman took more control of the show it got sooo much worse. This show was so complicated and so intriguing and I love how many amazing fanfics there are of the show that actually explore the complexity

I know right? I feel old. The earliest episodes even kind of have a "old animation" look to them in some scenes.

This was well structured, and very interesting to watch. I liked hearing the opinion of someone who wasn’t constantly defending the show or ripping into it. Thank you! (Also your hair is awesome and I’m kinda jealous of how cool it looks.)
