''Here you have a character with a very interesting ability. Something that pushes him into very interesting situations and makes life difficult for him due to learning how to cope with the different abilities. But lets take that away because we don't know how to balance it.'' They could easily thought of something like. ''Peter can't use more than x amount of abilities at once. Or if he does he loses 1 ability and needs to find the person again to regain that ability.'' Lets say he starts gathering the abilities. He gains being able to fly, being able to do telekinesis, being able to read minds, being able to stop time, being able to heal, being able to go nuclear... but then he adds 1 other power like super strength and he loses the ability to fly. Meets Nathan again and he regains it but loses the ability to do telekinesis. He then goes on and learns how to add 1 more ability to his ''slots''. He then goes on and learns to ''let go'' of an ability''. Lets say he learns that with the nuclear power. He learns to let go of that and is able to replace it with another one.

@@Hieillua Honestly there was a super easy way to balance it, they just needed to create rules and limitations around his power. Here's my take on how his power should've worked. 1. Peter has the ability to copy and mimic any power he comes into approximation with, exactly like in the show. 2. He can use any power he wants as long as he's in proximity to the person with the original power he's copied. Maybe like a 100 ft radius or something. So if he's around the guy that has invisibility, he can always call upon invisibility, no matter the circumstance. 3. Peter can call upon powers that are stored in his body when the original user isn't around, but only the powers of people he has really strong emotional connections to, whether those emotions are good or bad. For example: Claire, Nathan, Sylar, or Hiro. He should not be able to call upon his super strength or telepathy or electricity or phasing at will. 4. Just because he CAN call upon certain powers at will doesn't mean he's good at using those powers. A good example of this would be Hiro's ability. Just because he can use it doesn't mean he has mastery over it. Maybe he tends to overshoot his target. Maybe when he wants to go back in time one year he accidentally goes ten years back in time. Maybe there was a time that Peter stopped time and then couldn't get it back to normal for like six months, in which he was stuck wandering around in a world that didn't move, which would be a reason he doesn't like using Hiro's ability. 5. Sometimes, if you get Peter really emotional, a stored-up power erupts out of him in catastrophic ways, such as with the nuclear ability. This would create drama around his powers and the other characters, and he would naturally have to become a really spiritual/calm sort of person so that he doesn't accidentally murder people. This would make Peter interesting because he would be a wildcard, rather than a deus ex machina character. If you mess with his mind and get him super angry, everyone might die. His power is the strongest but it also requires the most fine-tuning and self control. These five rules would allow him to keep his powers but to also limit him in some kind of capacity. This would give him weaknesses as well. For example, if he lost his memories (like in season 2), he wouldn't be able to access powers that he had a strong bond to since he can't even remember the person he got the powers from.

Agreed NOTHING was dumber than the half has method of his dad just taking all his powers and him being without. The finale should of BEEN Peter and Sylar No holds Bar and the deciding factor some latent power only Peter could hold but to really know the full extent of that power the fight had Peter in the position for Sylar to absorb that one power with a hunger he had for no other power he came across and WHEN he has Peter at the point to get the power he just stops and we find out the latent power is the ability to now control Sylar and in and a final act Peter with the help of someone attaching the top of his head Claire assumably since she knows it will allow him to recover Peter then turns and you can see the shock in Sylars eyes as he has no control over his body or powers and with the single thought Peter forces Sylar to fly to the highest point and the atmosphere to blow himself up but NOT BEFORE he disables the self healing power Sylar got from Claire. Then finally the last shot with the Solar eclipse like the opening scene we see a massive explosion of which was death and ultimate defeat of Sylar to close the HEROES finally.

While I realize the show had budget constraints, the overall first season was really good but the end was such a disappointment due to the weak ass battle between Sylar and Peter they had spent so much time building up. I don't think the show ever fully recovered and each successive season struggled because most of the audience wanted to see at least some superpower fights. Although the show's creators said they wanted it to be more about the characters than the action I think they made a major mistake not having at least a few decent battles play out.

@Shendue
@Shendue 4 жыл бұрын
That's not the biggest issue. The problem is that, like with Lost, they started with a good a idea for season 1 and run with it, but without thinking through that. After season 1, they kept writing the script on the fly, on a season by season basis, so in the end it came out as incoherent and without a clear direction. They should have thought of it as a cohesive, multiple season story to start with, instead. With a clear development, and ending.
@baishihua

@@Shendue I say Lost managed a lot better, most characters had a decent arch, good drama and tension between the characters, so despite the world building went to shit, I was still satisfied with the conclusion. *They should have thought of it as a cohesive, multiple season story to start with, instead. With a clear development, and ending.* Absolutely, I've heard that Heroes was meant to be an anthology series, each new season would have new sets of characters, which is why for most the characters at the end of season 1, the arch felt completed. So the writers had no choice but having the characters arch kept going back and forward afterwards, people grown from their mistakes, only to reversed back to their old ways the next season, Claire writing was God awful, Peter's as well, Sylar's was probably the only one that writers tried. I've heard someone said be careful of giving your characters too much power, because you are risking them not using their power all the time to easily get out of situations. This makes me believe that unless they stuck with the anthology formula, this show was doomed to failed (perhaps far superior writers than in this show can pull it off)because most characters would become idiots of not using their powers to solve each world ending problems within 2 episodes (first season had the excuse of having characters discovering their powers).

@@baishihua Great comment I agree with everything you said. Once the characters have full control of absurdly powerful abilities like Space-Time Manipulation or Telepathy then solving problems becomes trivially easy and there is no tension. This even comes up in the 'Future Peter vs Future Sylar' confrontation in Season 1. There's a reason they cut away from that fight so quickly. It's so you don't have time to think that Peter and Hiro can simply stop time whenever they want and cut Sylar's head off. Season 1 mostly keeps this aspect in check (except the one case I mentioned above) because the characters aren't fully in control of their abilities. What it needed was more limitations on the abilities in the long term. Perhaps Peter's abilities slowly fade over time if he isn't near the people he got them from. Perhaps Sylar's old abilities become weaker and fade away as he gains new ones, yet he's still driven by the hunger to acquire more and more like a self-destructive addiction. Hiro's ability is very tricky to keep in check though, perhaps they just needed to kill him off before he fully mastered it to keep the show going.

As with every tv show and film, she completely botches the origin of the idea of 'the butterfly effect'. It's got bugger-all to do with "stepping on a butterfly" ffs. I reckon the writers were thinking of Homer squishing that bug when he travels back in time. And then got it confused with a butterfly. D'oh.
@thesprawl2361
@thesprawl2361 4 жыл бұрын
@@adir83 The 'butterfly effect' has nothing to do with "stepping on butterflies". It's a reference to chaos theory. In chaos theory, a tiny, imperceptible change to a chaotic system - for example the weather - can have huge repercussions. A butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the planet and that tiny disturbance can increase chaotically until we have a hurricane on the other side of the planet. Like 'Schrodinger's Cat' it's one of those though-experiments that gets horribly misunderstood in pop culture all the time. In this video the only reason I can think of why she's talking about 'stepping on butterflies' is because the writers of the show a. didn't know what 'the butterfly effect' meant, and b. had seen that Treehouse Of Horror episode where Homer squashes a bug by stepping on it(in fact he might just sit on it). ...How do you 'step on a butterfly' anyway? They fly. They're famous for it. Mostly they're in mid-air. And if they land, they tend to land on trees, and shrubbery.

She's referring to a Ray Bradbury story "A Sound of Thunder", wherein the main character goes on a time traveling dinosaur hunt, gets frightened, steps off the guided game trail onto a butterfly and changes the future (his present) into a total distopia. And Ray took the idea from a meteorologist who suggested that it might be possible, through cause and effect, for a butterfly, flapping a wing on one side of the planet could be responsible for a tsunami forming on the far side of the globe.

The show's audience was already going down when Peter powers have been reduced to a single ability at time but that wasn't the big mistake because Peter rarely used more than a single power in the show and the good thing about this season was in the time travel thing, so it coulded be done anyway even without using the shapeshifter skill. Even Sylar lost his abilities as a villain before getting them back again, so that coulded be temporary if they needed it. I liked Sylar's redemption in the last part, i think the show had potential for at least two more seasons but NBC wasn't the best network at those times and they cutted it out. Sylar's background as a villain has been explored a lot so he couldn't do much more without repeating the same scheme everytime, i think the show struggled to find other interesting villains, i liked Adam and Samuel but none of the other characters were that good to lead the show.

There's pieces that you need, Most people don't have a clear foresight that allows them to even begin to understand the choices that have direct impact on temporal mechanics. Time travel is dangerous. It's not for most people. The universe likes to "DELETE" things that create paradoxes. There's always rules.

The scar - poor writing. He did not have it in the present when he gained Claire's healing, so he would have not had a scar from that point on - it would have always healed.

I don't like how Peter turned into a cold dude later in the show. He was nicer in the first season but then something happend.

Which is why I thought it was a good idea for him to lose all his powers to his father. (I recently watched all 4 seasons again.) With the Ability Replication that Peter got later, he showed that he could still be "powerful" just by using his brain rather than brawn. We saw Peter return to the kind and caring person that he was in "Fugitives" and "Redemption". If Heroes had gone a different route in which Peter became the main villain and Sylar became the hero, then that would've been a cool way for Peter to keep all his powers and it would've been an interesting plot twist. After that, they could've found a way to stop Peter by depowering him and maybe Sylar, so that the focus would no longer be on them. That may have gone over a lot better with fans. I appreciate all 4 seasons of Heroes now than I did originally. Season 4 was much better than I thought originally, and I thought Samuel was a very capable villain. I like it a lot better than Season 3. We had a full season to develop a story just like Season 1, which is something they don't do now. These days, it's something around 8-12 episodes, which doesn't seem enough. Maybe Heroes Reborn would've been much better if it had been a full season with more time to bring back the characters we loved from the first 4 seasons. I love Babylon 5, Farscape, Deep Space Nine, and Stargate SG-1, and I can't imagine them being half seasons. Timeless is another show I enjoyed, and I really wished we could've had full seasons with it, so that the story and characters could develop further. I feel the same way about The Orville.

They fucked the show up with their lack of understanding for power creep Peters powers were nicely balanced by him only to be able to copy powers close by As were everyone elses powers Sylar had to stay dead or at least lose his memory after the first season, as he already was to strong with nuclear blasts For a second season they should have gone into the classical super hero story. The group knows each other, starts wearing costumes ti hide their identity and save lifes At the end sylar regains his memory and the heroes lose friends to defeat him 3rd season would have been the last The heroes are now more cynicyal and break of. We see the lifes of former heroes. With that we have the full lifespan of a heroes journey. The name of the show is finished

As far as I read, Tommy (one of her twins) is an ability absorber, just like Arthur Petrelli. It jumped two generations, I guess, since Nathan Petrelli didn't have the power (Peter did, but manifested after the injection as ability replication). We know after Samuel that babies can use their abilities in the moment of birth...that's how Tommy absorbed Claire's regenerative power, making her mortal after having complications in the hospital. She wasn't really a victim of the explosion.

@@KILRtv idk, i dont see him as corrupt here, just cynical. And his entire purpose here is to "save everyone" so he's not coming from a maniacal or evil place. She should have tried to set him on the right path, he's still her son even if from the future. I wouldn't treat my kids like a hated stranger because they came back in time with different views then they used to have, I'd try and guide them to doing what is best, wouldn't you?

Except in the comic books, when wolverine killed hank pym to prevent the creation of ultron (age of ultron), the 1 and only timeline changed. It always depends on the writters on which "timeline" rules they use, im sure all the writters have their own opinion of how "time" fits in the convenience of storytelling instead of all the overalll canon ship.
