I'm a decade too late but i really can't agree with that. To me, it sounds like he's singing from the perspective of someone in an abusive or unhealthy relationship. The arrow metaphor is the perfect example of this; he's been struck by an arrow that is slowly killing him, but it would also be extremely painful and harmful to remove, like it is to break up with an abusive partner

@warman13x8 жыл бұрын
+Leonard Katz I agree with you. Bo Burnham is one of my favorite comedians because, like Tim, he goes beyond just comedy. I'm not sure what else to call what they do besides performance, but they can both be very funny and very thought provoking at the same time. The endings of Bo Burnham's two latest comedy shows, "what." and "Make Happy" really show this too. And for what it's worth, "Make Happy" just came out on Netflix a couple of days ago. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend giving it a try when you have an hour to spend.
@TF-bi8ru8 жыл бұрын

This is one of Tim's songs that perfectly explains why he shifted towards a more "serious" career in the last few years. His composing talent and overall musical ability were far more worthy of recognition than the comedy genre was capable of conceding him. Another great example (perhaps the best and most obvious one) is the song "Beauty"
@charliedeese62722 жыл бұрын
That's true but part of this song's brilliance is it's also really funny and comedic in its macabre-ness- there's definitely when something special when Tim manages to do everything all at once. No coincidence that Matilda and especially Groundhog day are also quite comedic, if they were dead serious it wouldn't really be a good match for Tim I don't think
@monochiralmonkey2 жыл бұрын
I get wet eyes every time I hear "White Wine in the Sun" I think his greatest gift is to give us a giggle while he makes us feel profound emotions. Sometimes that little giggle makes even the most painful emotion a touch more bearable, and that is beautiful all by itself.
@Lady-Seashell-Bikini Жыл бұрын
"The successful removal of you would probably kill me too" was the first line in this song that caused me to tear up, and I kept crying throughout. Tim is such a well-rounded musician and composer, and often comedy and drama lift each other up so that they both shine brighter.
@eimeartheirishstitcher Жыл бұрын
It's been two years since your comment, but I saw Tim live this summer and reading that really resonated with me. He explained at the start that while there would still be humour in the show, he was trying to take a more "serious" route with his music. Its too bad that politicians and world leaders are really just puppets and cannot truly bring change to the problems we face, but if they could, a man like Tim would surely provide as good a step forward as ANY of the baffoons that hold those positions currently might EVER even stumble upon by mistake! Coming from a comedian's career I'm sure it could never happen, but can you imagine how great it would be........

Not to be redundant but this song is the most perfect encapsulation of what I love about Tim. It's in a minor chord so that instantly creates certain feelings and correlations in one's mind; but the lyrics are absurd and funny so this is a completely different set of emotions with which one has to deal. You grew on me like a tumour And you spread through me like malignant melanoma And now you're in my heart I should've cut you out back at the start Now I'm afraid there's no cure for me No dose of emotional chemotherapy Can halt my pathetic decline I should've had you removed back when you were benign I picked you up like a virus Like meningococcal meningitis Now I can't feel my legs When you're around I can't get out of bed I've left it too late to risk an operation I know there's no hope for a clean amputation The successful removal of you Would probably kill me too

You grew on me like carcinoma Crept up on me like untreated glaucoma Now I find it hard to see This untreated dose of you has blinded me I should've consulted my local physician I'm stuck now forever with this tunnel vision My periphery is through Wherever I look now, all I see is you When we first met you seemed fickle and shallow But my armour was no match for your poison arrow You are wedged inside my breast If I tried to take you out now I might bleed to death I'm feeling short of breath You grew on me like a tumour And you spread through me like malignant melanoma I guess I never knew How fast a little mole can grow on you

We kinda first met when this song was being released. Since that we talked. We got really infatuated, we moved in together, this song played at our wedding. And every day I am always amazed how true this is. True loves really grows on you like a tumor.
