I feel Cyberpunk 2077 or Edgerunners perfectly encaspulates how I feel if rebellion was taken realistically against a world where it relishes in it. Even if the characters get to have cool powers and try to fight back against Night City, Night City itself is a place where it relishes in a cycle full of misery. There is no happy ending besides a few and most rebels either perish or lose themselves. The people in power also aren't safe, even if they're more powerful there's upcoming bigger businesses and industries that can overshadow them. And the ones who fight back are only remembered for their flimsy attempts. In Cyberpunk the famous quote is, "Don't make a name for yourself as a cyberpunk by how you live… Make a name by how you dįə." The Cyberpunks are just in it for their personal glory and not for altruistic reasons. Some do it for money, power, love, but even if some do it for altruristic purposes all of them have the same conclusion...their own self tragedy. For example, David in my opinion is the Anti-Shonen Protagonist or Anti-Rebel Against The System. He could've been like Luffy, Joker (P5), or Katniss who challenged the system, but all it does is delay the inevitable. David thought by joining Maine's group he could live a great life and perhaps try to fight back against the injustices for his late mother Gloria. Try to save people and do good yet David's job isn't being a good guy. He's unintentionally following the traps of being an Edgerunner. Like Lucy said, he shouldn't have join a brutal profession that doesn't suit a kind soul. All David did was overexert himself and joined a group that were in it for themselves. In the end the crew were just mercenaries and vigilantes for hire. He wanted to help people but he's simply helping people such as Faraday rise to power. Once he realizes this, he is too far gone as David succumbs to his cyberware by becoming a Cyberskeleton. It also doesn't help that David never accomplish that big or anything special. He was just a simple edgerunner about to lose his way, mentally losing after the countless enchancements made him prone to a mental breakdown. The loss of Pillar shows his life was already over before it began. He couldn't rebel against a society because he was naive the world was complicated, alongside working with people who weren't even the good guys or sane people. Even if he met them were they really supportive (Exceptions being Maine, Rebecca and Lucy somewhat) for him mentally? After all in Cyberpunk, noone has a happy ending and as a result they all fall down into the cycle thanks to enabling and shunning others. To me Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners shows if people are too busy with their own ambitions and goals they aren't seeing the bigger picture. David like all other Night City citizens when they become too cocky lead to...Self Destruction. Once David acts confident he doesn't realize his life was about to hit rock bottom because the crew changed him for the better...and for the worst. Maine unintentionally enabled him to become more self destructive and when he tried to stop David to not follow his path it was already too late, Pillar and Rebecca were unstable bombs about to unfuse with the former's fate being a catalyst to foreshadow the horror of what's to come while the latter helped David's dream her efforts to help the two ended up worthless when Adam Smasher crushed their goal, Kiwi left the group for money but also for her own safety and was forever forgotten as a traitor despite her regrets, Lucy's complicated issues with trust caused miscommunication and resentment especially for David who was slowly giving into cyberpsychosis and disillusionment, and while Dorio was the Heart of the group she's still contributing to the issue and her loyalty to Maine ended up her downfall when he went unstable from cyberpsychosis. When the crew dwindles, David's whole worldview of helping and changing the world against Night City is just.....a what if. David is not a freedom fighter nor was he special at surviving against Cyberware, he was just a simple cog in the machine to Doc's disappointment. It's sad because David did want to do good, becoming the top dog and make his late Mother Gloria proud of him. Which makes it more tragic if he ever became a CEO we all know how that would lead to like V's CEO path in the video game. It goes to show David's life was sad to begin with. The eptiome of the illusion of free choice if he ever became a Cyberpunk he goes rogue or a CEO his life is only remembered for his status, he still would lead through self destruction and be remembered as a cautionary tale. The only good thing was him sacrificing himself for Lucy to escape and accomplish her dream as he accepts his untimely fate by Adam Smasher. But Lucy felt unfufilled because even if she got to visit the moon without David by her side it felt empty in the end. I feel in my opinion, David attempted to save Lucy wasn't just because he loved her yet a last desperate attempt to make a difference, to be remembered, to be recognized like any Cyberpunk would at the cost of himself and leaving Lucy alone. David may cared for Lucy's dream yet it's pitiful he never realized Lucy just wanted to both of them to be free from the destruction of Night City and live. As a result David's story was the deconstruction of becoming a rebel and freedom fighter. Those who are unfit or unable to handle the price of becoming rebels will not change the system. And because of this David is just another fate that will only be commonly known in Night City: A Tragedy.
@rickfastly26716 ай бұрын
The truth is rebels rarely truly win, whether it be outside influence, corruption, or internal strife/conflict. Oftentimes another corrupt system is put in place right after another one, or an extremely horribly thought out administration takes over. either with rebels that have no governmental skills, because they want to point the nation in the direction they want, or simply are power hungry, eventually you end up with a non legitimate govt that holds very little power, which then leads to more armed revolt and lawlessness because the country still hasn’t stabilized.

I will watch this video at another time but based on the title alone I have something to say. Because there's no consequence in a narrative. There's no permanent jail time and there's no suspicion of anti-American or government activity that will cut the infinite heroes journey short. Most people are weak, they don't want to go well out of their way to find systems to better themselves. They don't want to be the strongest or smartest person in the room, they appreciate their comfort that gives them the ability to write in the first place. That's why modern authoritarianism is so effective, it is the illusion that gives people their sense of authority over their own lives when they don't really have a choice because if they try to leave the system they will find so many roadblocks that it is like trying to claw your way up a brick wall. Most people know this but don't admit it to themselves. There's no consequences in a story. Once you light the candle it's very very hard to put it out. And it'll be difficult. Have you ever noticed how even when they win in these narratives they don't talk about any clean up processes? They never talk about the hard work that it takes in order to get other people from throwing you out while you're trying to make their life better? Where do all the indoctrinated people go who want the old system back? What do you do about those people? Who see your attempts at giving them freedom as tyranny? Because they've grown so accustomed to their invisible shackles that they see it as part of who they are? How do you not become the enemy of the people you're trying to save while still being effective enough to win. Now I haven't read very much because all the advertisements I'm getting in all of the Google searches aren't going to help me with figuring out what books are what. But if there are narratives like this, maybe you can talk about how those aren't popular. Maybe you can make a video on the average conscience of a citizen of a English speaking democratic nation. But that's just my two cents. Or with how long this comment is, maybe about $2.

There are three types of individuals: the pacifist, the neutral one, and the fighter. A pacifist just wants to enjoy his day and live to see another, so he will always seek the path of peace. This means he won't fight when conflict arises; instead, he will seek ways to maintain his peace by fleeing, hiding, or complying, as long as he can keep that "peace." The neutral one won't be bothered. This is the person who can watch two people fighting and remain unaffected. If asked what happened, he will simply say they started fighting. He won't care why or who is right or wrong. Without really escaping or hiding, he will never pick sides and will cooperate without complaint under any tyrannical rule. Then you have the fighter. This individual will not tolerate disrespect from anyone, be it a king or anyone with a made-up status. They will challenge authority and fight against anything that diminishes their freedom on any level. They will never comply with tyrants. They are the ones you see gathering and fighting the establishment, and they would rather die fighting than comply with any tyrant. People admire fighters because they know that without them, tyrants would run rampant. The government fears these people, knowing they are the ones truly maintaining order in society. They are the heroes we love to look up to. Lately, I see a lot of glorifying of villains, but it's still the heroes who win the contest.

It all comes down to what people are willing to die for. I started with hyperbole, but the general message is how much effort you are willing to put into something. You get the government you tolerate. You get the company you tolerate. Why do we see the movie and gaming industry becoming hollow versions of themselves? Because the consumers allow it. For example COD has been pumping out bland games for the past couple of years and they keep doing it because people keep buying the game. Just like with microtransactions. Scummy? Yes. But there is a portion of the population who feed that system. It gets rewarded. It's easy to complain but a lot of people will continue to tolerate it because taking direct action takes too much effort. This is especially true when it comes to governmental matters because there are only two ways to change up a government. Vote out the politicians or overthrown the government. Either way the standing power in the government doesn't want to lose power so it clamps down or tries to restrict the options people have. And as JFK said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." Of course there are hundreds of other factors to be mentioned but I don't have the time and this isn't the place. Its a rough world out there, focus on what you can change in your life and take action for yourself.

I would the more accurate reason why we dont do what is done in movies, video games etc is because of survival. See subconsciously we all have this existential dread and survival is what keeps it under the hood. See why we have all these institutions is due to our survival as a whole in society. It's beyond just politics, but really survival. People became comfortable and would not want to sacrifice their lifestyle. With the quote in the begginning of the video essentially tells this. If you dont sacrifice your own lifestyle, you cant change the system. Also another factor is that a lot of us are under covert slavery, which leads a person to think they're "free" but not.

We feel this way about fiction due to what seems like endless possibilities to do whatever you want. The idea of corruption in the real world is very different in comparison to a one piece. So we constantly look outward for a government to topple in a fictional universe. We hate the fictional government because its portrayal is to be something to hate. It was written that way. Any fictional universe with an extremely accurate presentation of toppling a government in a modern society would leave countless watchers hesitant to actually partake in the events. It would be a mirror our world.

I for one cannot fathom people who just perceive media at a surface level, even saying that insert media from old was never political in the first place. What’s more baffling is when people say they understand and or support certain things far back in history like slaves killing or rebelling against their masters, yet say it’s uncouth for similar actions to be done in the modern age. The hypocrisy that comes with saying fighting for rights back then is different from now because we as a collective already agree past things were bad will never not be apparent.

People don't revolt just simply out of fear of killing or being killed. Almost no one actually wants to destroy the ground they stand on. Most people understand if you take out the system you have to replace it with another one, something would be revolters have no experience doing. It is relatively easy to wreck the tracks and stop the trains from running on time. What is genuinely difficult is coordinating the construction of new tracks and getting the trains running on time again day after day. People like to lose themselves in the fantasy they in real life can never fulfill. Whether it be for the sake of their families, fear of death or the burden of successful revolution. Comfort and security is a B' isn't it?
@ExeErdna5 ай бұрын
Too often those that wanted to revolt didn't want to work at those places. They just wanted the power they lacked, yet if they ran off politicians do they think they too can't be ran off? They want others to bleed for their cause becoming just like if not worse than the people they claimed are monsters.
@Shinjiduo5 ай бұрын

impractical ideals do not make a state function properly. just because you have the right intentions does not mean you will succeed, just look at chaz. people will do what they need to survive first and foremost, following the incentives laid out for them; to destroy the current order without a suitable replacement will lead to nothing but wanton chaos and suffering. about capitalism, it is the state of nature extrapolated to society. people in nature work for food and shelter, people in society do the same. the problem arises when people become isolated, cannot form communities, and cannot realistically benefit from the prosperity of the overall society. tldr; focus on those problems which actually threaten society instead of watching anime to determine which singular ethereal concept you should base your entire understanding of humanity on.

I have a question. Why use the DPRK as an example of oppressive governments while completely ignoring the fact that they are ding what EVERY country in total war would do. The Korean War never ended. The US has refused the DPRKs requests to end the Korean War
@Januaryof286 ай бұрын
They don’t want the war to end in North Korea by they I mean the government because a union would mean the politicians loss control of the country. Also the USA doesn’t intervene unless they want power or a war is easy to win like when they bombed Syria. The citizens of both koreas would benefit greatly from a union . The war isn’t even proactive all they have is a border Kim jong and his friends spread propaganda to make the south seem terrible and not worth of peace from Koreans

People like corruption when they think it serves them. Too many people nowadays will spout all kinds of hate about Capitalism. But Capitalism is a neutral force. It has to be corrupted by humans to become bad. If we are being real though, without capitalism, war mongering and suffering there would be no modern world. I often struggle, wondering, if the modern world is worth the cost. But as I get older I find it to be worth it. When I was 18-23 I was super into politics and arguing with people. But I realized that most people just ride bandwagons to try and fit in. There is no amount of talking to people that can change a mind that doesn’t want to change. I have noticed that as I get older I become more conservative. Not in a political sense. But in the sense that I want less and less contact with the wider culture I live in. All that is important is my own health and the health of my family. Getting super into politics is a mistake. Politics is merely a tool for moving the sheep in the directions the elites want.

4:22 That would be histerically ironic considering that communism inevitably leads to opression and dictatorship. 4:50 That one is a kneejerk reaction. You say that they fight for freedom, I see cowards and terrorists hiding under hospitals. Situation is simply gray enough with realities of siege and war that we can't judge it well but son's of David beeing the only ones in that conflict to agree for the opportunity to even sit at the table and talk it out is not a good optics on the other guys side. Beeing anti-government does not automatically mean that you are in the right. 5:39 Because both are a myth. You need certain ammount of structure to function. 6:15 That one is about communism. "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others" describes it perfectly. Take it from the Pole, we had experience with that. 6:35 That guy doesn't seem very opposed to the capitalism, in fact he uses all he can on this island of his. He seems to be simply well read. 8:22 Did you read what the guy said? Directly from the quote YOU SHOWN you can see that this will happen UNLESS "authorities are very mild" or in other words government has very little authority which is absolutely, fucking, true. 9:38 Revolt requires three things to happen and be succesfull. 1. There needs to be an actual reason for the revolt. 2. The situation of the people needs to visibly worsen. 3. There needs to be outside capital interested in help. If you take one of them away you will topple the house of cards. 11:12 And communist countries pass whatever laws they desire since public is of no concern to them. Just opress whoever is against as happened time and time again. Make those who oppose it think they are alone. 11:45 And vandalise historical monuments, like stonehenge. You can see why the hell people don't like them. 11:55 Where is the other side? 12:08 Looting, burning and murder. You call that "gallant"? Mostly peacefull but fiery protests that left cities looking like warzones? And who they have hurt? People around them and in their neighbourhoods. It's not a protest. It's thuggery. 14:40 Prussian system, yes. They teach you to be a good factory worker. It's simply inefficient in era of today but it does produce people who are complacent. 15:11 And you didn't notice that quite obvious implication? Yeah, Americans are built different. 15:20 Fringe cases. Tried looking at cases where ex-slaves were wishing to be back where they were before beeing freed? Because I can easilly spin the narrative in the other direction. Either way, a waste of life and, from purely utilitarian point of view, waste of labour. 18:36 Because one happens right now and within your country and the other is blaiming sins of the fathers not on their sons but on grandsons of their grandsons. If your grandfather or even father was a murderer are you guilty for what he did? 16:49 Slaves white men couldn't catch because locals didn't like others intruding upon their turf and competing with them on this market. Slaves that were proudly sold by africans because they had proud tradition of slavery. Their mothers were singing lullabies praising slavery for fucks sake. 17:24 Absolutely deserving a 9gram lead pill applied directly but yes, I see it.
