You HAVE To Play Prototype Right Now (Review)

I Played Prototype in 2023 and this is my Prototype review.
Prototype released back in June of 2009 right after Spider-Man web of shadows a game about a virus spreading in new York and GTA 4 one of the most realistic versions of new York that we had seen back in 2008...
Prototype was clearly going to struggled but I really do think Prototype is a flawed masterpiece.
I decided to replay Prototype for the first time since 2010 and see if the gameplay and story still hold up.
Prototype may not be everyone's kind of game but it certainly is mine.

Well, "he" was a bit weird because he wasn't human anymore. It was the virus taking Mercer's body, just like you can consume anyone and look like them.

I always wanted Alex' jacket, but never found one 😥 Also: Barry Pepper was a great VA choice, but the script was very...oof, so he didn't have much to work with. I'll never forget him screaming TEGGAAAAART

This game (imo) deserves a remake/retelling or at least a complete reboot. Prototype 2 for me was a big letdown, not to say the first game was perfect but definitely favoured.

Prototype's writing isnt that bad. I know the video is not bashing the game. But as a hard core Prototype fan I cannot hear any negative thing about this game. 😅 Prototype is a masterpiece not a mediocre masterpiece. The game has been released 12 years ago amd I didnt even find something as good as this game. And trust me I've played everything that look close to prototype (infamous, batman arkham, every spider-man games, etc)

I wish I had the means to replay Dark Cloud and its sequel, both released on PS2 back in the day. Such an underrated RPG adventure.

I still have a PS2, Dark Cloud, Dark Cloud 2, Dragon Quest 8, and Rogue Galaxy. Level 5 had a good run on the PS2. I miss the "jrpg" buffet of that gen. Ar Tonelico, Shadow Hearts, Smt Nocturne etc .Even the average Forever Kingdom. Budgets were low enough to experiment.

Dragon Quest VIII & Jeanne DArc made me a fan of Level 5.. Granted they haven’t released anything lately they still have a fairly large body of work.. I still got a lot of their stuff in the backlog

I got this game working in depth preceptive 3D with some AR glasses. Jumping around the rooftops is nauseating and great.

Idk, the fact that Alex does the exact opposite of what he said he’s gonna do is a reflection to the player, you have fun killing, because it is, and Alex doesn’t want that, so he struggles from your control and try to make things better, but since he’s so used to killing because of you, he became just like you, a killing machine that kills because it’s fun. So in the end he saves New York, not only because he’s trying to save humanity even if he feels he doesn’t worth it, but also because he’s taken the joy of killing, and he doesn’t want his playground to be destroyed, exactly what the player wanted. And that’s precisely why he realized that he’s something less than human, but also something more, not only referring to himself, but you as a player

The story is there to explain the powers. Because apparently you didn't notice that the powers are ripped off from a little game called The Incredible Hulk: The Ultimate Destruction also developed by Radical Entertainment. Even the mission structure was adopted. How can a guy like Alex Mercer have same powers as the Hulk. That needed to be explained.

I made the mistake of getting it on PS4. Thank God it was £1.99 as the game is eye-bleeding jank in 2023. Controls and hitboxes are a mess.

The reason you say the story is bad because you didn't complete the web of intrigue, which to be fair is tedious to do. You were right about one thing though, the writing was bad but I see this as an example of a well-documented unreliable narrator, which means you have to do the detective work yourself.

Prototype is the epitome of a game that you skip through the cut scenes just to get back to fucking shit up ASAP. Prototypes perceived 'weakness' is only because of the bind it has to include some semblance of a plot for some crowds. If it was a movie, which it's not, I wouldn't watch it. As a game, which it is, it's amongst the most fun of them all. ... Isn't that the point? Good review Jack!!
