The inventory levels are very high on full sizes now. Ram just announced 10 percent rebate. Along with dealer discounts it won't be hard to get a 70K dollar Ram down to 55K. I"ve seen dealers knocking off 9K on chevy half tons as well. Ford is a bit more stubborn but they will smell the roses soon. They have no choice as the credit crunch and banking crisis is very real and not imaginary. Its only going to get worse. I would not buy now. The best deals on full size will hit in a few more months. Stay away from mid size. Margins are still too much.

Not sure what your point is... Honestly, I've only used my factory TV remote one or twice in the past 2-3 years. That's because I'm using Fire Stick or the remote from the satellite company. The remote is just kind of a waste. I've also only used my cruise control one or twice in the past 2-3 years. That's because most of what I do is around town driving. Should cruise be standard? Maybe, I don't know. In a way, it's not such a big deal that it's an option, at least for lower trims.

If people act like they talk they'd never buy a new vehicle to begin with. Even after demanding it do exactly what they want they step aside and assume they can get it used, and then are upset when changes reflect the wants of people actually buying them new. Only time they buy new is if they can say they were triumphant in their holy crusade at their local dealer, demanding 5k under *invoice* price after chewing out 3 sales staff and one random service tech who happened to walk slightly too close for daring to list a vehicle at MSRP. Of course in their story they saved the sales managers from a firey eternity due to their wicked ways purely through their negotiations, and the receptionist was so impressed she asked for their number.

@@nodak81 The only advantage the Ridgeline has over the other options in its segment is how smooth the on road ride is. The problem is that it costs just as much or more than trucks that are more capable, and the Ridgeline isn’t drastically more fuel efficient either. I regularly got almost 1 mpg better than that in my Gladiator Rubicon...doing 71mph though (not the speed limit 75?) going from Colorado Springs (COS) on I-25N to Loop 470W, then North on 470 to the W Ken Caryl Ave exit: 31.2mpg. When I'd go back to COS however, I took "the back way" vs. busy (and boring) I-25S: A nice leisurely drive on Hwy 85 to Sedalia, then Hwy 105/Perry Park Rd to Monument...went slower due to the lower speed limits there (45-55, back & forth), but don't recall the mpg numbers -- too busy looking at the scenery and watching out for any alpacas/lamas on the road. ;-) -- BR

I think it’s such a dumb concept. It’s a necessary option in 99% of cases, so just include it in the MSRP if you’re going to have it. I think Ford has been really bad with that in particular. They love advertising how cheap their vehicles are, but you’re pretty much always going to be paying quite a bit more for their products than they advertised. You’re not getting a Bronco under $40K even if it’s base model. The demand for the Maverick has made it way less affordable than advertised. You’re never going to see a Lightning for $40K unless it belongs to your local NAPA Auto Parts

Actually doesn’t have anything to do with the dealers, it’s a contract between the manufacturer and the transportation company. That said, the charges are absurd. The most absurd example I’ve found is if you order a Corvette and pay extra for museum delivery, you STILL pay the destination fee even though the transportation company never touches the car, they have a contract based on total sales.

Thanks for doing this video. It saved me a bunch of time wondering if the new Ranger was going to take on Toyota in the sales race. As these manufactures raise these prices, they just reduce the buyer pool for their new products. There is a point where the building less units at a high price, with great profit margins is not going to make the company profitable in the long run. Henry Ford assembly line made the model T affordable so people can buy them. Some body is going to do something that with EV's with new battery technology around the corner and the legacy manufactures will be out of business. High prices for all vehicles, work from home jobs, and high auto insurance rates will force families back to being one car families.

The F150 EV is just under $100K. Ford is going to continue down the EV path, lose more money, and this will cause the gasoline/ diesel truck prices to go up and up and up. We have had new Ranger in New Zealand for around 9 months, and it is the top selling vehicle, battling it out with the very old now Toyota Hilux (our Tundra) We get 2.0lt BiTurbo Diesel as the base engine, and 3.0 V6 Diesel in higher grades, then the mightier petrol Raptor. Base 2wd Ranger starts at NZD$47,500 or USD$30,250, XLT Double Cab 4x4 NZD$67,500 or USD$43,000 with 2.0lt BiTurbo Diesel. Raptor NZD$93,000 or USD$59,250. We don’t have the range of small/mid size trucks you are lucky to have!!!! Our Hilux top spec, close to TRD Pro with 2.8lt Turbo D is NZD$75,000 or USD$48,000 and Gladiator Rubicon 3.6 Petrol (only engine we get) NZD$100,000 or USD$59,250 (very few Gladiators sold in NZ) All vehicles add between $3,000 to $9,000 NZD for on road costs and tax. We have in the past couple of years seen factory backed RHD versions of your bigger trucks (1500 size) here that sell in small numbers due to price. RAM 1500 LTD NZD$160,000 or USD$102,000 and RAM TRX Base NZD$250,000 or USD$160,000……. New Silverado ZR2 NZD$160,000 or USD$102,000 Trucks are the best selling vehicles in both New Zealand and Australia, and would love to have the range you have and the pricing!!!! Ford is looking at bringing RHD F150 (3 models only) to Australia and Toyota is doing a test run with the Tundra (1 or 2 models only) late 2023. Next time you think your truck is expensive in the USA, think of us on the other side of the world paying a lot more!!!! (Most of our utes/trucks across all brands are built in Thailand)

I have a 1987 F-250 with a diesel and manual. It has cruise control lol. I can't believe GM actually saves an appreciable amount by offering some trucks without it, given basically all the required hardware is there anyway. It still has a PCM, TCM, ABS. This is clearly just a way to unrealistically drop the "starting price". It probably costs them money in testing and development of an unnecessary variant...

Couple of things. 1) The Jeep (Gladiator) will arguably retain its value quite well compared to anything else on the list; 2) I owned the original Ridgeline (2006) which was excellent but its nav/media system was dated from the start (mine had the big screen with a flippy down screen that provided access to the in-dash CD changer) and the current Ridgeline ALSO has a dated nav/media system. The trunk on the Ridgeline is an amazing feature still to this day. The Toyota is likely to have the longest lifespan.

A couple of things I would point out, since Roman did ask, specifically regarding comparing the base Ford Ranger price to the base Honda Ridgeline price, but also on your point about Honda sales numbers: 1) The base Honda comes as a crew cab, torque vectoring (clutch based limited slip) AWD for the MSRP of $36,490 and yes with destination about $38k. The quoted ~$27k price of the base Ranger is the super cab, 2wd, with open diffs. For fair comparison, if you select a crew cab, 4x4, and locking diffs (they don't offer a limited slip), suddenly you are at $35,790 in the ford configurator for a 2023. Now the Honda has power mirrors stock the Ford doesn't, add those requires the XL 101A package, price add of $1135 (also gives it a remote key fob, power locking tailgate, and day/night mirror, again all standard features on the base Honda) and we are at $36,925. Honda comes with bedliner/composite bed, add bedliner to Ranger for another $495. Honda has standard tri-zone climate, Ranger comes single with option for dual, which needs STX package, add $2090. Lastly, without the $495 trailer towing package, the Ranger tows less than the Honda does on all trims. I could keep going, as the Honda includes as standard a host of other small features that must be a la carte or packaged on the Ranger, but I don't need to because to get the base Ranger to be ALMOST as feature packed as the Honda Sport trim, price is up to $40,005 on Fords configurator. So, no, if comparing feature to feature, the Honda is no more expensive than a similarly equipped truck from any other manufacturer. Really Honda doesn't offer a "base" truck, their base is really a mid-tier trim/package for any other mid-sizer, and it is priced accordingly. 2) The Honda sales being up (and by up I mean the 4th best selling midsize if you include the Maverick as a midsize, 3rd if you don't, and bear in mind that the Taco and Maverick combined would represent 50% of the mid-sized market sales) is a result I believe of several things. 1st, Honda has stated that they did have supply issues, and essentially low sales before were partly because they couldn't make enough to keep up to demand. 2nd, and I think more importantly and to Roman's point, the Maverick changed minds (largely due to being a Ford and not a Honda) about unibody trucks and how much truck people need for their actual use cases. People for years mocked the Honda's unibody, awd, and 5k towing, but they love the unibody, fwd or awd, 4k towing Maverick. Now, to put a point to it, people also loved the old S10, which also only towed a max of 5k (in largest engine) and about 3500lbs with any other engine, and came with a 4ft bed in crew cab, so is a fair equivalent to the Maverick and less than the Honda in size and capability, yet nobody shits on the S10 the way they have for years on the Honda. Stigma was a combo of the Honda name and the unibody. When the stigma was lifted by having the Ford badge, lots of buyers said, yeah that does enough for what I actually need. The next key thing is the size. The Maverick is small, so someone might start shopping the Maverick for its unibody, awd, and capability level that meets their needs, but might find it too small for their family (seriously the back seat is tiny). So, they start looking at larger mid-sizes, and realize that all the stuff the love on the Maverick is available in the much better equipped, and largest/roomiest cab in segment Honda. Since a Maverick buyer is already by default not someone looking for max towing values of more than 5k or max off-roading chops, why would they look at the other mid-size trucks over the Honda when the only things they do better are the towing and off-roading (already not important to a potential Maverick buyer) and in other ways are actually worse (fuel economy, crash ratings, on-road handling, snow handling, overall ride quality, etc)? As a result, the Ford Maverick gave people a different metric against which to measure the Honda, and it clearly is having results. Now, if the rumor of a 2024 Trailsport Ridgeline is true, and having seen the capability of the Trailsport Pilot, some of the "it can't off-road" stigma of the Honda also goes away (and if you follow JonDZ Adventuring on YT, we already know that line of reasoning is BS as the Honda AWD is quite capable in many situations), and we are left with the only thing truck bros can complain about is its towing. Having driven and towed in half tons since before I had a driver's license, so well over 20 years, I can honestly say that if you are towing more than 5-6k lbs, you belong in a half-ton as it is, not any mid-size truck, for better trailer control in wind and stopping. Trust me a large cross wind with a 6k+ camper trailer behind a 4500lb mid-size truck is a "tail wags dog" situation, and panic stopping a trailer that weighs 50% or more than your vehicle is dicey even with trailer brakes. It was this realization that led me to get a Honda Ridgeline when the 2nd gen dropped in 2017 (now on my second one, a 2021, and I will get a Trailsport if it is real) when I one day realized I didn't own a single trailer that weighed more than it could handle, and my "off-road" needs (hunting on Wisconsin forest roads and getting to remote campsites) could be handled by pretty much any AWD vehicle, and didn't need a 4x4.

Ford is the king of ala cart optioning that quickly drive prices up. Ridgeline is an AWD crossover with an open trunk. Compare it to the Subaru lineup. There’s no transfer case. I’m glad that it’s an option and it works great for people that don’t venture far off maintained roads, just like the Subarus. Roman has hit the nail on the head, VALUE is the name of the game and I hope manufacturers pivot fast. I’m looking at the ‘23 TRD offroad in either the taco or the 4Runner and plan to drive it for 10 years. The 4Runner has the payload of the Tundra -10 lbs. I wanted a full size half ton truck but prices are insane and capability isn’t there, midsize trucks are closing the gap and fit down trails, combined with the lack of reliability plaguing the industry. Over 100 years making cars and we still have severe issues. Reliability = lower cost of ownership and gets my money.

Roman is 100% right on the money, at least for what I think too... that people want and need VALUE and PRACTICALITY! These new truck prices are just insane... and it will be super interesting to see what Toyota brings to the table. If Toyota comes out with a practical Hybrid that gets close to 30mpg that can go farther than 240-275 miles like the F-150 Lighting got in the winter. 🙄And if the Tacoma has close to enough power w/a turbo 2.4L iForceMax/HybridMax that is still quick enough, and can go to Home Depot for 4' x 8' sheets of whatever; AND have a decent price. Then they will sell like hot cakes. Which is what Ford experienced with the Maverick... people are clamoring for something, almost anything they can afford! And anyone who steps up to the plate with fantastic VALUE is going to leave the rest of the trucks sitting on dealers lots with 120 to almost 200 day inventories (which we are seeing already) with high interest rates and trucks that are $55K, $60K, $70K, $80K, $90K, or $100K+... insane!!! 🫨🤪 Maybe Toyota will save their best value to a new compact Stout or bring the Hilux back, who knows? So, I've now had 10 trucks/truck based SUVs in my young early 50's. 😇The latest was a F-150 Lariat Lightning w/the Extended Range Battery, Glass Roof etc. Where I'd signed up on the day Ford Corp. announced them 5/19/2021... and then finally received it just UNDER the wire (8/30/22), before Ford Corprate (NOT my local dealer) JACKED up prices two (2) HUGE jumps in less than 2 month for an effective $16,400 swing in price increase and no more state incentives, too. Anyway, when winter hit the Lightning's range was HORID!!! The Lightning was fun, but completely unusable for towing and the cost to charge away from home cost MORE than fuel for my wife's Ridgeline that consistently gets in the high 21mpg City & 26.3mpg Highway (always hand calculated at the pump). It made me feel like I could only drive 120 to 138 miles from home, before I'd have to turn around to charge it for WAY LESS at home. And the not so lil' Ridgeline (that's actually just over 1 inch narrower than the F-150, I'm not kidding look it up, as a driver and passenger's shoulders do not come close to touching like they did in our 2013 Taco TRD Sport or like it still would in the newest Ranger, too). Plus, her "lil'" Ridgeline towed a 4,400 lb. tandem axle travel trailer from Michigan to Oregon while averaging between 10.9 to 12.1 mpg. And it's payload is 1,580 lbs. where I've even borrowed it to get 13 sheets of ¾ inch thick 4' x 8' plywood between the wheel wells. So, YES, value really really matters and so does MPG with rising gas prices (again). And also for the 90 to 99.8% of the time what a truck is still going to be on the road around town or going up and down the freeway. Thanks for all y'all do there at TFL, your work is greatly appreciated!!!

Good video. They didn't mention the GMC Canyon a base model Canyon is over $38,000 and that's a two-wheel drive crew cab. The only thing I could say about the Ranger Raptor is $58,000 is a lot of money, but that might be fully loaded because most Raptors don't really have much options.if you look at the Colorado ZR2 it's starting price might be less but if you had all the options it's over $62,000. So my guess is if you add any and all options for the Raptor Ranger and any and all options for the Colorado ZR2, their prices will be pretty close I'm sure. 🙂

Was just out on the cape cod (NYer here) and I saw nothing but ridgelines. Like 15/16. So many! If you don’t off-road, it is the best pickup. Great payload (even better than 4WD frontier), fastest 0-60x, fully loaded on safety features at base (including the safety bar between cabin and bed required in Europe but not in the us to prevent items from ramming into the vehicle in case of an accident), AWD standard, largest bed, trunk in bed, etc etc. I wish they would come out with a fuel efficient hybrid ridgeline. Something with low-mid 30s. It would annihilate competition. There is absolutely a market for it. Im interested to see what Tacoma hybrid gets. I need the pickup for my garden business. I have a Hyundai ioniq lease and an 04 ranger. I don’t want to give up my ioniq, but started my business after my ioniq and need to consolidate expenses into one car. It might be the worst time to release a new vehicle, but they can't let the competition get ahead. A LOT of people are walking away on orders because of current interest rates.
