I always enjoy the Floppy Deep Dive episodes Tom! I remember the days of pirated games on floppies quite well - there were loads of games to go around and try and I remember the excitement. Some great looking games on this one - some lesser known I think but some gems like Piracy in there!

Great video again Tom. I always thought Chris Butler did an amazing job on Space Harrier considering the limitations of the C64 compared to the Arcade. Some amazing gems from the past, its like the 1980s all over again 🙂

Excellent video, Tom! I hope you keep this format going for the deep dives. Krakout is such a gem! Music, graphics, gameplay, this one had it all. When I play this one I set it to "SOUND F.X." mode and play the music in the background using a SID player. Rest in peace, Ben Daglish.

Chris Butler will go down as one of the best commodore 64 programmers of all time, people commenting on his space harrier conversion, his power drift was even better, one of the best racers on the system.

Hey it's my favorite series! Awesome stuff. You were right on as I had never heard of Piracy. Seems like maybe developed in Euro land? Not sure as I have never heard of ACE Games. I will for sure check that one out. Dark Tower, I remember well and I am with you it is a solid D. Goofy controls and no arms?

First ! Was never fond of Space Harrier but Piracy! is a great game - tic tac toe'ish. Krakout is a "evergreen"- the others games have i not heard of before. There soo many great games. I like H.E.R.O., Rick Dangerous, Blue Max, Space Taxi and Fort Apocalypse amongst so many others. Keep the videos coming.

To be fair, I was never a fan of Space Harrier to begin with, not even the original arcade. Always thought it was rather mediocre to be honest.

Stay cool Tom! It's suppose to be in the mid 80s here, and that's a bit too warm to get me motivated to work in the yard... but I need to get ready for a Fathers Day BBQ so I'll have to suck it up. Dark Tower looks like what happens when someone combines Jumpman with Manic Miner. Space Harrier was a game that never appealed to me. I played it in the arcade and on the SMS and it just never clicked. In general, I'm not a fan of rail shooters. Piracy looks interesting. I'm gonna give that one a look for sure. I remember watching Card Sharks as a kid, but forget the way the game is played. I didn't know they made a home version of the game.

The other Card Sharks is by Accolade. It's not based on the TV show, it lets you play Poker or Hearts against animated opponents. That includes three world leaders - Maggie (Thatcher), Ronnie (Reagan) and Gorby (Mikhail Gorbachev). I do like the coloured stripes on the US version of Space Harrier, makes it look a little better. The PAL version did have a loading screen on tape. Whirlinurd was very frustrating, but I'm a big fan of Krakout. My brother and I managed to complete all 100 screens. I've not played Dark Tower or Piracy, must check them out.

There is actually another game Card Sharks based on the TV SHOW that's the US version.

I remember that version of Card Sharks. Even as a kid I knew who the characters were suppose to be. I don't remember it standing out, so it was either way to hard or just not that great. I'll add that to my list of games to check out as an adult.

Afterburner also had two versions for the NTSC and PAL markets, the main difference being though is that Afterburner had two different development teams so the games are considerably different, whereas Butler developed both the PAL and NTSC versions of Space Harrier. Outrun, Ikari Warriors, and Bionic Commando also had two versions for each market. However, the less said about the NTSC versions of Bionic Commando and Ikari Warriors, the better.
