Aside from the UNESCO sites, you might want to check out the ones on the tentative list as well. For example, there are Apollonia Archaeological Park and Fortress of Bashtova on the list, which both seem to be a good stop on the way to Duress later.

Whaaaa... so beautiful! I get amazed when visiting historic sites like this stone city. SO beautiful - just imagine living there! That stone carver tho... whaaaaa????!??! Sick with the chisel skills! The food looks great too so interesting that the meatball soup was creamy and sour. I get sad when I travel with my parents all they want is to put kimchi on everything they eat - IN OTHER COUNTRIES! I try to explain to them that we should be visiting not to have their cultures accommodate ours, but for us to try and understand what they are about. Food doesn't have to be meeting our standards of what good is.. I mean if it tastes great - then that's a plus! But, I believe in my humble opinion, the best way to get an experience is to really let down your guard and dive deep just like Steve and Ivana to get the best experience and taste of what their culture is about. Sorry for the rant - Great episode guys!

I'm new to your channel, I started watching your vlogs three days ago, and I just binged on all your Pakistan videos. From Lahore and Islamabad to Hunza and all over the north. Every conversation, reaction, covering all the emotional highs and lows. By the time I was done with your last vlog today I was weeping like a kid. It was genuinely like losing a family member, and I became desperately sad about you leaving. It's funny how you can forge deep connections with people you've never met in real life. Ivana, you're smart, very intuitive and gorgeous, and Steve doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I can genuinely say I love you both, and also say thank you for making yourselves part of our lives, and thank you for sharing these journeys in such an intimate way. Love from Lahore ❤️

The stone roofing might be a good idea if there is an earthquake, as if they are loose, rather than collapsing they can all slide off. Little bit of climbing involved in getting to the best spots, but the views were incredible. Some amazing stone carving there and a guty happy in his work, they would make great roof tiles. Always nice to see how people lived in the past.

She hit the nail on the head. Yes those rice balls "qifqi" are mixed mainly with mint "nenexhik." The meat balls in the soup "pashaqofte" soup are actually ground meat balls mixed with rice. Two of my favorite dishes I grew up with. My grandmother cooked them all the time. My grandfather was from Gjirokaster and my mom was born there. It's a town with a lot of history. Glad you guys like our food. Yes, we're not much into spices as we like to taste authentic flavor of each ingredient. Pilaf is an example. We usually cook the rice with butter and when you eat pilaf you feel the full flavor of rice. There are too many places I could recommend for food but this guy has nailed our food #davidsbeenhere Check him out. Oh and look out for what we call "first or ancient figs." Also cherries and mulberries. Have fun in my country.

Nice footage guys!! Gjirokaster is truly an amazing city.. the castle was completed in yr 1200.. which was way before the Ottoman empire invasion.. I just wished they didn’t put those artillery equipment and that old US spy plane in there.. I just can’t wrap my head around why they thought it would be a great idea to do that.. they need to be dismantled and removed from this sacred castle..
@JetLagWarriors3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think you're right, especially about the random U.S plane. We actually had a clip of me commenting how out of place it seemed, but deleted it because we didn't know if there was some other reason for it, or if I was sounding harsh. Anyway Gjirokaster is a beautiful city and the castle is awesome to explore.
@rumisteps9883 жыл бұрын
Such a quaint town, with amazing original architecture. It’s very unique. The handicrafts and foods are just like Turkey. But it still has distinctive features. Muslim women of those times were hidden and even in some cultures they still are. They are considered as the honour, also in those days rich women like that would very rarely cook or do housework as they’d have maids and servants. Having said that they still had more rights than their western counterparts, as they were given the right ( by Islamic law) to vote and own property 1400 years ago, whereas in the west, women had to fight for these rights and only got them maybe just over 100 years ago or so.

Albanians are master of stone crafting. In Istanbul in the touristic area there is a place called " Arnaut calldrem" which means" Albanian pavement " road, because people who built them were Albanians. If you see the mountain that Gjirokastra has it in its back, you'll notice it is a grey mountain made up of stone, the same Albanians built their town and their house roofs.
