Focus on brakes, alternators, starters, suspension, and steering. Don't do oil changes unless they are having something else done. Don't be cheap. You are a convenience. They get to stay home, not pay a tow truck, or take time off of work. You are working in the weather with no infrastructure. Charge for it. Make sure you have required permits and pay your taxes. Finally, Don't work in the street and dont use jackstands on asphalt or uneven ground.

What's the reason for not doing oil changes ?
@420vizunproductions6
@420vizunproductions6 7 күн бұрын
@@dreamyworld4111I don’t do oil changes because to me after the price of oil & filter is factored in. It’s just not really much money in it for me. I’ve used gas, unloaded tools, gotten messy, reloaded tools, and only able to make a few dollars worth of profit. There’s only so much wiggle room before taking it in to a shop for the oil comes out cheaper for the customer. But that’s my opinion.

I used to do mobile service years ago for SAABs. I had a 3 drawer top chest. A small floor jack. Jack stands. I had a twin tank portable air compressor. All the items fit in the trunk of my 87 900 4dr sedan. If I had to pull a drivetrain I had an engine hoist and my F150 to haul it. I had a day job and just did repairs evenings and weekends. It was a great sideline.

This is true, there are still “car enthusiasts” my age (just turned 22) but none of them know shit about cars, they just like cars that look and sound cool and go fast. My grandpa and uncle RIP both are/were mechanics, so I grew up around cars but never lived close enough to really learn much from them. I’ve always loved cars but at the age of 20 my personal car started having problems and I couldn’t afford to pay for repairs so I did it myself and fell in love with working on cars. I guess it’s in my blood. Now im looking into starting my own Mobile mechanic business, im still no expert nor ASE certified but I’ve learned a lot through experience and I believe that to be the best teacher. Just pulled my first engine to replace the idler gear in my car. Everything went smoothly

I was driving down the road and my car started to run rough. Then my car's check engine light started flashing. I began to get very concerned, I was on my way to a client's house. I dug out my code reader, cylinder 6 misfire. I drove it to a parking lot after my work was complete. I started diagnosing my car, turns out it was a coil pack. I replaced the coil pack and now check engine light is gone. Someone who isn't a mechanic would have had to have their car towed home or to a auto shop. If they could even get an appointment at a auto shop. Feels good man to be a mechanic. My code reader cost around $120. I love my scanner!

As a mobile mechanic, I couldn't agree with you more. I hate working in the direct sunlight and on the ground. I wish I could have a lift at a home garage to do whatever repairs that are possible there. Also, when it rains, I am unable to do repairs, which impacts business as well. I did aquire a canopy, which has helped tremendously with the sun and rain, but it's not full proof. Also, I'm still on the ground, so it's not always a win. During the winter, it can be rough too, but living in Atlanta, it's pretty mild for the majority of winter. It has its ups and down, but I do enjoy working for myself. Maybe 1 day I will have some type of portable hydraulic lift system I can bring with me, but until then, it's on the ground I go...

Dealership service shops have gone down in quality service. I took my 2021 KIA RIO S to have its oil changed at our local KIA dealership and the tech forgot to install the new o-ring. You can probably guess what happened after that. Good thing I noticed the leak in time or else someone would be buying me a new engine among other things after I take them to court. Never trusting these dealership shops ever again. Doing my own work whenever possible.

I own a mobile mechanical repair business that repairs mowers, ATV, side by side and lots of other equipment. I got my cargo van set up with everything you wish you had in your van. I surely have the same attitude about the mobile repair business. The virus put a hurt on my service call numbers. Then came inflation and it slowed down some more. Here we are now and I'm only getting a few calls a week which is fine because I'm living in my van as designed so if there comes this need of urgency or just tired of the area I just go to a new area. 54 and very experienced with anything I work on. I like going out on a 10 minute service call and put $60 in my pocket. I can easily pay rent somewhere but I already like how I'm living compared to the house. The lake's in Texas are might fine this time of year then it's off to Colorado until heavy winter then a Florida winter. Have a Grand Business.

I ducking love this! I’m a “stay at home” tech support junkie, but need a side gig. I’ve literally bought kits to check for cracked gasket, changed my camry radiator, changed my camry alternator, cleaned my camry throttle body in my driveway, so i have some skills. But how to market to those clients in need is still an obstacle i’m trying to surmount. I’ve created business cards and have been leaving them on toyotas everywhere, but haven’t gotten my 1st client. Thinking of a car magnet next. Other ideas?

This is my move, my advertising was super successful but now I need to get more tools, legit I was getting around 100 bucks for 30min of work... to me it's enjoyable, I've built my own engine by myself I don't see why I cant repair any vehicle as long as I read a manual or forums

The main thing that keeps me from getting into mobile mechanic work is the insanely high risk of having all my tools stolen and having to pay the equivalent of minimum wage for insurance that may or may not fully reimburse me.

I got a question so I know how to do : Brakes Belts Oil changes Alternators Starters Engine mounts Valve cover gaskets jobs Spark plugs Small things like brake light switches & clutch switches on older Hondas Brake jobs on bmws(newer) I can build small engines (used to build predator & Honda 6.5 motors) Do you think I have enough skill to try it ? The only thing that’s hard about mechanical work for me is sometimes I get frustrated with tight spaces especially if I don’t have the right tools, but I really can put back together anything I took apart . I’m considering working at a shop for some time to get more experience. Do you think that would be a good idea or just give it a shot ?

😂270 lbs. very true. I tried being mobile before co/19. I think the hardest thing to deal with besides the weather is the customers I just like anything else good and bad.. there’s a reason why the customers don’t talk to the technicians. Some are very understanding and will not interfere with your work and others will sit there and watch. How do you deal with these situations?

I have a couple questions that I’m hoping you could answer. I’m getting into the same field. I’m only 20 years old. I’ve grown up around the work my whole life and I love working on vehicles. I feel like I’m meant to do more in life than clocking in and out for 10 hours, 5 days a week. My family runs a shop that does very well, but I want to bring in my own business rather than take work away from them. The amount of knowledge is at my fingertips for free is endless and I would be wasting something amazing if I don’t capitalize on it. 100s of thousand of dollars worth of tools that I can use and get started for free. The only QUESTIONS that I don’t seem to get answered from KZbin at least is; What happens when you go on a call and you can’t do anything for the customer, or the customer isn’t happy but it isn’t your fault? What if they refuse to pay you? How do you deal with customers that you know nothing about? I’m more worried about how to deal with customers that DO NOT want to pay. Obviously I know there’s legal procedures that you could go through but at some point, from a small business/New business standpoint, it isn’t worth it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, idk who else to ask. Thanks

All respect for you doing your own thing. But yet again we have another guy watering down the industry and cutting prices. You should be charging more for the convenience than a brick and mortar location. Also are you charging for drive time to pick up parts? What happens when you have to re seal someone’s driveway because you did an oil change in a windy day and oil went everywhere? You still have to carry insurance pay more taxes then you did being a w2 employee. So just to make more money then you could working for someone else you’re gonna have to charge at least $120 an hour or I don’t see the reason to go out on your own and have all the headaches of running your own business.
