I received a call back from Autel support, as the dongle for this AP200 has too many connector pins, so it cant't fit on my OBS2 port. I have a 96 Lexus ES300 . Their rep said they were not aware of the problem. I suggested that they discontinue their inaccurate advertising, claiming that the AP200 is applicable for 1996 OBD2 cars, because it isn't.

What's different between the packages? The majority of codes are generic OBD-II codes, same goes for the mode 6 data, so what do those $20 packages do? Access to the non-ECM modules (ie. stability management, HVAC, etc.)?
@realfixesrealfast
@realfixesrealfast 5 жыл бұрын
yes, in early obd2 most codes were generic. However as tech progressed the poem's have usually expanded the information available. And in the latest years they have greatly expanded the code and data for non old generic modules. Remember, generic pid is mandated to be available and usually contributes to potential evaporative emission systems.

How sad that no one invented something like this for us poor peasants that are still driving around in OBD1 cars......
@MrSlowestD16

The problem with OBD-I was it wasn't very standardized in terms of connectors. If you buy an OBD-I kit, which is expensive, you'll get like 10 different cables for various manufacturers/groups. Very frustrating. OBD-II cleaned that up reallll nicely. The "OBD-I" diagnostic connector on the miatas is literally just a bunch of wire end points which you jump to short circuit the fuel pump and what-not to diagnose major issues. It doesn't even have a protocol communication with the ECM.
@Inisfad
@Inisfad 5 жыл бұрын
MrSlowestD16 Don’t know about the early Miata’s but assume it’s somewhat the same as the early Suzuki - Tech 1 is needed. However, presumably there is also the same diagnostic connector in the engine bay which, when jumped at least will give you codes. Some companies have manufactured an SDL cable that links with the outlet and your laptop, with downloadable programs for some live frame data.

Another expensive money pit scanner meant to rip people off. If a company can't include the software n free updates for every make of car then their greed is insatiable. If this tool allowed you to overwrite factory tunes on factory computers (which aren't tunable) then I would see the appeal. But for diagnostics, it's getting ridiculous. Many reasonable wired diagnostic touchscreen are available now n even have free updates. Don't get ripped off buy fancy words like bluetooth

I highly doubt it, he is using a line of tools that he is familiar with and knows. To the people that think he's promoting a product you should know by now all the videos that he's done that's not the way this man works. If you find something else that works for you then good for you. If you're a mechanic, tools cost money the software is different . People believe that modern tools could do everything for them but without the proper knowledge of how the systems they are diagnosing work they are just tools are require your brain also.
