I honestly needed this video today. I am about to graduate from high school in about a week and I am feeling slightly hopeless and I needed something to tell me that it's not as bad as it seems and that I can do what I want to do. I have been skateboarding for about 7-8 years now and I've watched your videos the entire time and I absolutely love the fact that you switch between skateboarding and just general life advice stuff because as an about to be 18 year old you've helped me through a lot of really hard times in both skateboarding and life as a whole. Thank you for all that you do John you're an amazing person and thank you for being there for those who need it through your videos.

Exactly, the reason I chose to learn how to skateboard at 53, not because it’s easy but because it is hard! We are always told how we should act and that continues on when you get older, only now it’s you can’t do that because your to old and isn’t that for kids! The answer to all of that is NO! Unless you want it to be, basically write your own story and don’t worry about what others think and most of all just have FUN!
@MIJ05H6 ай бұрын
Yess! Exactly!. I turn 40 this year and have decided to start a youtube channel relearning how to skate basically from scratch while working through a back injury. Part of me thinks im too old but thats just the inner voice of insecurity talking. I also wanna show my 6yo daughter that even though its hard at first, its worth it for the things you enjoy. There are no rules for happiness

Some of my favourite quotes: The world is full of lonely people afraid to make the first move All it takes is all you've got If you have to eat shit, take big bites If you're stuck on a problem, don't sit there and think about it; just start working on it . Even if you don't know what you're doing, the simple act of working on it will eventually cause the right ideas to show up in your head Action isn't just the effect of motivation; it's also the cause of it. All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. Rejection is just a redirection "No" stands for next opportunity Light, playful, joyful One day, or day one No one can hurt you without your consent Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the ax. Easy choices, hard life. Hard choices, easy life The only things achieved in life without effort is failure Happiness is amazing. It's so amazing that it doesn't matter whether it's yours or not. Worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles, it takes away today's peace. A true selfless act always sparks another You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of Hurting yourself is easy. Living is the hard part When you're not worrying so much about making mistakes, you tend to not make as many If it doesn't scare you, it doesn't make you grow People do the best growing when things change If you were right, I would agree with you. Did you miss me? Like a stone in my shoe He's forgot more about it than I'll ever know Things that matter are hard In a world that lost its beauty, I witnessed you

Ironically, not a quote you highlighted, but something you said towards the end: "Allow the art to be the art, and the marketing to be the marketing." I've been reluctant to slice up long videos into "bitesized" social media clips because a part of me feels it takes away from _artistic purity._ But I'm slowly accepting that short form can just be an avenue to my long form, without diluting it. Better to be findable than invisible. Great video!

°Great video... all of it was uplifting and well put an openly informative on many levels for sure.... however I do have a quick question...*sorta* about how you made mention that you had alot of stock B-roll footage to choose from which sort of alluded to that it wasn't anything recent??? also that you've been working out an reading ect....so that being said..(I know big setup)..well I happened to be wondering because I get tha impression that for you skating has fallen to tha back burner of life for you in lieu of other hobbies and or interests & if that is tha case it's most likely because your maybe spreading yourself a bit thin, on what's important to you??? Then feel that one thing might take precedence over another.....and believe me when I say that I get it....an i know you don't owe me or anyone on here anything other than what you presented....however I'd like for you to take a moment to think about how much that very thing ...... *skateboarding* has been a steeping stone and has opened countless doors an avenues and directed you to tha point of where and who you are today....now I know you don't know me but believe that when I tell you as I'm sure if you could ask anyone of a particular age bracket that have done exactly that, there will come a day an you may call it nostalgia or you'll call it whatever you wish.....but.... you can mark me...because that day will come and when it does many things will rush through your mind, at that point and for all intents and purposes maybe even this comment will creep out from the ether...an if its not clear at this point then allow me to say I don't wanna see you throw away something that I know is meaningful to you because you think that its expected of you or that you have to....I relize it took a long way to get to tha point but I wanted you to read this and have you for a moment stop and let tha gravitate of it all sink in as so you could remember that time when it was you, your wits and a skateboard and that was enough simply put.....
