At last,someone who knows what he is talking about.I'm doing my own research for the past year,i've send many oils for lab analysis and i can tell you for sure that he is 100% right.Unfortunately here in Europe very few 5w30 oils contains pao and ester.The majority of group 4 oils are 0w40.All the other are just group 3 paraffinic.Of course i subscribed!...sorry for my bad english...

Yep manufacturers do this. In Australia, Toyota ALWAYS release the new Landcruisers with really thin oils, like 0W20. For a country where that car is going to be working at 100% in the hottest environments. And people complain that their new Toyota burns oil excessively. It's because Toyota got that engine certified for emissions and fuel ratings using that. Allot of workshops just put 10w40 or 15w40 in instead including some dealerships.

I know the exotic car world is small, do you have a shop recommendation to work on the M159 in my SLS in the Seattle area. I would love to find someone to work on the car that is not the dealership.

I don't know anyone specifically. I recommend you search out the Mercedes Specialists in your area. Read the reviews, make sure they sound real, and then take a visit to the shop. I have a video "5 Tests For Your Mechanic: Does He know His Stuff." If you watch this, I give 5 test questions that you can ask the technician and if he gets them all right, you've got a winner. Once you find the right guy, stay with him for everything! It really helps to keep the same hands under the hood.

You’re mistaken on the auto stop. Lake speed Junior had a good video on proving the difference in wear with labwork when using auto stop and when disabling it. Because when you’re idling, there’s a lot of fuel delusion which create a lot of wear. There was a significant difference when auto stop was used having less fuel in the oil causing less wear. And you can see this in the oil lab work with less wear metals.
@HollywoodMechanic6 ай бұрын
I am not discussing the wear. The timing variators loosen due to the impact force of starting on the expanded metals due to being warm. Audi, lamborghini, and mclaren are all having issues with timing variators going bad and they aren't going bad, they are coming out of time. When you want to loosen a tight bolt, what do you do? Heat it and impact the head. That's what's happening with an auto start vehicle. Every mclaren I've pulled apart for variators just had the intake cam on the passenger side out of time.

And his test is not really good. Most of the fuel burns out with use. If this was the case, police car engines would be no good because they idle for the majority of their life but I see them at auction with 200k miles. Oil analysis is tricky. You have to do hundreds of samples on identical cars and conditions to get confirmation through analysis.
@Good-luck-Jonathan6 ай бұрын
@@HollywoodMechanic you get more wear that doesn’t mean a car can’t go to 200,000 miles in the case of a police car example. Yes, you do get a trend with many samples he is a tribologist and does lab work as well. You can do it through his speed diagnostics website. Idling does produce more delusion Unless you drive predominantly highway you will not be able to burn it all off which is why there’s more wear metals.
@Good-luck-Jonathan6 ай бұрын
@@HollywoodMechanic I don’t know about timing issues on the vehicles you’re working on but that’s not necessarily the case with all vehicles if they have such a defect with the system. They would need to be designed accordingly to work with the auto stop and not have timing issues.

@@Good-luck-Jonathan out of the twenty minutes of info, I like how the only disagreement comment is something I just mentioned in passing. I still think if you're driving a sports car, the amount of time idling at a light is so miniscule, that it's not making a difference. I drove for 40 minutes in a urus, the auto stop for the engine only engaged for a total of 56 seconds of the trip. It's not saving any wear imo. You would need to be a cop to see a difference

Micah, which grade oil do u recommend for 991 gt3rs? Huracan perf? 458? Scud? I have been using amsoil but following whatever the mfg recommends
@HollywoodMechanic8 ай бұрын
Always scoot the first number as high as you can based on your lowest starting temperature. With the second number, you need to determine based on testing. With the Huracan I use 10w60 or 20w60. With the 458 I use 10w40. With the gt3rs also 10w40. I had a client that ran 10w40 in a GT3, not rs, and had great reduction in wear metals and was going way over factory intervals, driving it hard all the time. There was soft faults for oil pressure high on start up, but it never set check engine light and the analysis proves less damage was being done than factory oil weight.

How is amsoil? how does it compare with redline?
@HollywoodMechanic8 ай бұрын
Amsoil is not a PAO/Ester blend so it can't have the same qualities as a real synthetic. Having said that, I have never run comparative tests so I can't say that it degrades as badly as, let's say Mobil 1 which I've compared from putting it in myself and following up with direct testing.
