Thanks for the information. I’m enrolled in my city’s own version of LATTC this fall. I’m in my mid 40’s and looking for a career change out of IT. As you may or may not know IT jobs are being cut left and right like mine was. My body is in relatively good shape. I already have experience doing my own work on my Benz. Seems like with everything in cars becoming more and more computerized that it might be a decent career for me. I know the pay is going to suck at first, but my expenses are rather low and I have somebody else willing to pay for the tools, which all the tool truck companies provide huge discounts for students. I recently have been trying to get in at several places as an entry level lube and tire tech but haven’t received any response yet. I assume that will change about a semester in after I bust my rear in class. If you happen to read this, do you think it’s best to try and go for working at a brand’s dealership I want to work for to get the sweet employee pricing on a car (Porsche), a brand that I will already have hands on experience with (Mercedes-Benz as I own one and will be wrenching on it in class), or instead whatever large dealership group that owns multiple dealerships of various brands even though they might not have a dealership for my favored brand nearby (Penske, Hendrick. Et. Al). Oh and is learning the language of a foreign manufacturer like Japanese or German worth it for those that really want to push their career to the limit? Thanks in advance!

I have been a heavy diesel Tech for John Deere for 25 years, I do not own any digital torque wrench’s and never will… basic click type torque wrenches have worked for years and years just fine … There is an old saying be smarter than what you’re working on.. plain and simple..

@@farmerjoe338 heavy diesel doesn't have a massive plastic oil pan with 27 bolts on it with a 6nM torque spec. If you think you actually stop when you feel the click, you need to try a digital wrench. It shows the final torque before you quit. I show my new techs the digital torque wrench and ask them to torque lug nuts to 116nM, and they always show 135+ when they actually stop. And the digital has lights sound and vibration. But you don't need one, you could be all over the place with your torque, as long as it's within 30 % you'll never notice on a john deere. Ferraris not so much. Trim panel bolts are 2nM. Good luck with that with a click style lol

@@farmerjoe338 if it's so technologically advanced, maybe you should rethink your original comment about click style being better than digital. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You painting your bolts for degrees of rotation? You can tell when a bolt is stretching with the digital read out of torque. Plus you can adjust to .01nM increments. They don't make a click style with that level of accuracy. Your 25 years of work has made you a dinosaur that hates new technology and you haven't given a single reason why.

Hello @Hollywoodmechanic what would you say is the "average" life of these transmission for Cali/458? Ive had my car for 3yr and logged 28,000 miles (daily driver). Had $20k, now i'm at 48k miles. Everyone said it will last the "life of the car". Is this true? Or do I have a "rebuild" coming in my future? I change the 2 fluids in the transmission every 3yrs, and all my other fluids every year. thx!!!!
@HollywoodMechanic
@HollywoodMechanic Ай бұрын
8 to 10 years they start having issues. Really depends on the driving style. Changing the fluid regularly is a good strategy. Using a better oil like red line or motul seems to be a good choice but we'll see in 10 years if it extends the life of the sensors. Definitely keep up with your oil analysis to monitor wear.

@HollywoodMechanic
@HollywoodMechanic Ай бұрын
You can't watch torque value live to see if torque has peaked and it's about to fail with a click. It doesn't tell you what you're final torque was. When you feel the click vs when you stop is a different torque. Also, that harbor freight unit is extremely inaccurate. Probably can get by with it since you're not a career tech, but this tool, or a high quality digital torque wrench is an absolute irreplaceable item in a master tech tool box.

@@thepubliceye and it doesn't show you actual torque. That's the biggest draw back. You have no idea what your final torque was unless you go slow AF to ensure you stop immediately at the click. But a professional doing a ferrari top engine service with over 100 bolts requiring 9nM, this is much better and I make up the extra money spent in saved hours in one job

You are absolutely, "paying" if you are doing it yourself. That is time that could otherwise be used curing COVID, solving the situation in the Middle East, taking your kids to an amusement park, sleeping, etc. etc. etc. Would NEVER even consider the national chains on general principle. By FAR, the worst automotive work I've ever had done was at an, "independent" shop, in a wealthy zip code, that had an overall "4.8" or it might have even "5" star reviews. Absolutely horrendous work. Place has been in business for something like 15 or 20 years. In addition to the whole, "loaner car" thing, (though, since COVID, I find that unless you are at a luxury dealer, like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc., dealerships I have been to, are more likely to RENT one of their vehicles to you, than provide one for 'free'). Either way, it is a convenience. However, it's worth noting, IF you have to wait for the vehicle, and it's going to take multiple hours, "Would you rather be waiting for 3 hours where they have clean bathrooms, WiFi, a bunch of power outlets, and, most importantly HVAC? OR Joe's Garage, with the dirty chairs, no A/C, and in a room the size of a phone booth?"

kzbin.info/www/bejne/pae6dH9oorR-a8k So apparently brake fluid gets hot, expands and increases in pressure ....old cap didnt allow this pressure to vent so the fluid would leak out the point of least resistance (which was at the master cylinder/booster junction or in the booster itself). New cap allows the pressure to vent easier (crappier seal to the environment) instead of addressing the weak seals in situ Ultimate bodge fix lol I'm not sure I buy this explanation either because .... how much pressure could possibly be generated by expanding brake fluid from high temps .... like even if it was material in 'laymans terms' ... it cant possibly be as high pressure as me physically stepping on the brakes because if the pressure increase was indeed comprable to regular braking pressure ... then the pistons would clamp down on the rotors right ? So if high brake temps causing pressure increases via fluid expansion can't possibly be as high pressure as regular braking forces ... then the amount of fluid lost to this pressure forcing fluid past seals somewhere in the system would be negligible compared to fluid lost under the same mechanism under regular brake actuation. It seems like there's just some bad brake boosters/master cylinders ... somewhere ... some batch ... etc. and replacing those is the actual only proper solution but across 23,000 cars that's expensive. The reservoir cap is in that case a red herring. A distraction to give a somewhat plausible face value explanation which is in fact completely irrelevant and the goal/fix of the recall is actually the reprograming of the brake fluid capacity sensor to throw a warning light at 90% full instead of the 48%. It would look optically quite bad if the fix/recall was ONLY a software reset of when the light turns on as it would look OBVIOUSLY like an attempt to implement a bandaid fix instead of the expensive part replacement. Changing out a cap which probably cost just a few bux was a good (financial) compromise that allowed maranello to save face. The cap won't do dick but the warning light would flag much earlier thus hopefully sending these cars back to service before enough fluid is lost to actually be a safety concern. I would imagine that the first cars that get sent back to service with this light on post recall work would immediately have a booster/master cylinder replacement be recommended. Anyways that's my two cents with my tinfoil hat on .... did i just get banned from buying a new ferrari from the factory ?

Roof cover, the flat part that covers the top when it's down is probably not latching or registering latched. This prevents the trunk from opening. Have you tried opening it? Once it has that fault that the "tenneau cover" is not latching, it might be frozen. Try using the manual tool, vertically inserted in the top frame of ski door of the back seat and try opening and closing the latches. Try opening the trunk at both positions.
