I think the stalking and social media aspects of the show are what drew me in more so than the sex and murder to be honest, especially in this day and age. I accepted him killing the woman-beating neighbor but hoped it wouldn't go beyond that. It was the intense stalking and almost getting caught that kept me on the edge of my seat. lol

@@thebettydiaries I agree and although Joe is a psycho it really annoyed me when she lied about sleeping with her therapist and also just shows how selfish she is because she doesn't know the value of loyalty in a relationship. But Joe's character was flawed also in so many ways like it was clear that Beck makes poor life decisions but he also had no right to remove people from her life by killing them because he thought it was 'best' for her and going through her phone. Joe is not only a psychopath but also a complete control freak he actually rationalised in his head killing people because he wanted to save Beck but he didn't realise she couldn't even save herself because she made self destructive decisions in terms of her ex boyfriend who neglected her and her unhealthy friends what Joe didn't realise is that he had to let realise her mistakes herself. It really irked me that he thought he had the right to control her destiny and her life by invading her privacy.

I don't think there's anything wrong with liking Joe as a character. Fans becoming fascinated by villains is nothing new. As long as you don't excuse his actions. When people start to romanticize and victimize him is when things become problematic. And it's obvious that this is what Penn is frustrated by and why he feels he has to constantly make it clear that Joe is not a good person.
