Graduated from the a6300 to the a6600, the battery, overheating issue resolved, better skin tones, IBIS (people complain about this for video but it's intended for stills where it makes a big difference) amazing autofocus and HLG make it totally worth the upgrade. Use it paired with the 16mm and 56mm Sigma mostly. A lot of reviews call APC's "great B cameras" but I've been using them as my A cameras professionally for years.

Super appreciate you sharing your journey. I have ZERO problems with an APS-C sensor being an A cam. Even when I my cinema cameras: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZ_Uppmhl5hoobs I'm technically using a Super 35 so it's essentially the same size. The a6600 is an absolute beast. Congrats on the upgrade!

Thanks for the review. I have been shooting with the A6000 for years and love the camera. It has such a compact shape that is smooth across all sides unlike the fuji and other cameras with extra dials/view finder across the top. I constantly used the tiny built in flash and also shot a good number of panoramas. Now, after all these years, the brand new Sony A6600 has eliminated the internal flash and in camera panorama. Ridiculous. I cannot fathom why the newest and supposedly best camera, also the most expensive one of this series, eliminated the A6000 very useful features of panorama and in camera flash.

it's definitely a strange move. But they do have the 6400 and a6100 as options and you can save some $$$
@hankypanky4u4 жыл бұрын
Most professionals don't use on camera flash. High end cameras do not have flash built in. If you're a serious strobist you probably never pop up the unit. It's not strange it's just not something you're familiar with
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the insight. I'm quite familiar as I never use on camera flash. As I mentioned in the video it's a small and portable camera and it would have been nice to have a built in flash for fill or during certain mid-light situations. None of my actual professional bodies have a built-in flash which is expected.

I've just watched both your videos on A6600 and A6400 and I still can't 100% decide which one I want for my set up. And that's not the result of your videos, they're amazing and love the detail here. Your summary at the end suggesting more video go with 6600, does make sense, I just don't think the feature step up justifies the price increase. Also... the lack of USB C is really bugging me... why??? I'd love to be able to record straight to a USB C drive or just use the same charger as everything else these days.
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom - thank you for watching and for the kind words. Unless I absolutely needed the IBIS (which personally I don't) and the video eye af (which is actually really nice to have) I would go with the a6400. I'd rather spend the rest of the money on lenses. If I want truly stable footage, than I'm using a gimbal regardless of which camera I have. To record externally, you would need an external recorder like an Atomos Ninja V and use the HDMI out (this would be true even if they used USB-C - BUT STILL, USE USB-C!!!) Appreciate having you as part of the community 🙏

I am a travel vlogger and I use almost all the time my gopro as a main camera. But, but, but! In low light or night time, the gopro sucks! So this is the reason why I do ask your advise for Would you recommend the a6600 in 2021? Is there some better video camera than this one for low light now on the same price range? Thank you very much in advance
@momchilyordanov81904 жыл бұрын
If I MUST buy Sony, depending on budget it will be 6100, 6400 or 7III. And if I LOVE aps-c format and want the best tech and capabilities, I would go Fuji, which had no full frame to push me towards and puts the best things and the whole lens range in this format.
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
Good insight. What would make you get the a7iii over the a6600 (assuming it's more $$$ and so are the lenses)
@momchilyordanov81904 жыл бұрын
I believe the price gap becomes too small for the difference in capabilities. Maybe have to point out I'm talking about Europe, where the price drop of a6600 apparently did not happen. In 'brick-and-mortar' stores in my country the crop sensor camera is just $300 cheaper than 7III. On British Amazon is the same thing - 1400 pounds against 1640. It would be plain dumb not to take the fully professional body over 6600 for 300 dollars.
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the insight. I don't completely agree with your statement about it being "plain dumb". The cost of the body is only one factor. FF lenses are much more expensive, so the budget discrepancy doesn't end with the body. If size, weight and $ are not an issue, I would get the a7iii with GM lenses. Otherwise, I would probably opt for the a6400. How much is it new? used? Great discussion!!!
@momchilyordanov81904 жыл бұрын
The FF glass is more expensive indeed, but if you want maximum quality of the 6600, you will not get it with the kit lenses. They are the cheap ones, but also of lower quality. So, most likely, if you want the best IQ from your 6600, you will end up with some if not all FF glass again. Or the new 2.8 crop lens, which is the same price as a full frame lens. Now, if you shoot primes, Sigma make some relatively cheap AND good ones for crop. But so do Samyang and Tamron for FF. I see crop sensor being STILL a neglected system by Sony in terms of glass. So you end up with two options really. Go cheap or go good (like with many things in life :). If cheap is what you can afford, it makes no sense to shoot the plastic kit lenses with a 1200 (or more) dollar camera. If good is reachable in terms of budged, why shooting the good glass with less capable camera? For me this model, 6600, is in no-man's land. Neither so much ahead of 6400 as capabilities, not so much lower than the FF as price. And outside of Sony world, arguably a weaker camera than the top Fuji models. I personally wouldn't buy it. Just my personal logic.

The Sony is anything but a King. The X-T4 in combination with Fujifilm's weather resistant lens system that is highly optimized for the APS-C is the best choice. The X-T4's superior IBIS, weather-resistance, 4K 60fps absolutely crushes Sony's APS-C cameras and its much cheaper when you factor in the cost of Fuji's native glass. Sony forces you to buy full-frame glass to make ends meet.

Super accurate review! I shot yesterday about 6 hours with my a6600 and I still had 5% left of the battery. All the filming is done outdoors, 1080p 50M. First time when I shot, in cold conditions, couple of weekended ago, one battery held for 4.5 hours. I got 2 batteries. I am contemplating the idea of getting a power bank/external battery for longer use, since it's about 4 or 5 times cheaper than these Z-type batteries, but they are thei shit. Looking forward to the next videos on the A6600.

I have the A6400, I thought about upgrading but seems all I would gain is the battery as the ibis is almost useless. I could probably sell this a6400 probably $700-$800 used but would have to fork up another $400 or so plus tax, all that for a battery upgrade. I don't know I feel like the money would be well spent on a few more lenses or just upgrade to A73. First impression: Wow, great background and photos! The biggest things missing for me were: You kept comparing the 6600 to the 6400 rather than the 6500 which it supplants. Also, the big complaint besides overheating and battery life for the 6500 was the poor performance of the LCD in sunlight. I didn't see you test that, though it appears the screen is better than on the older models. Your photos really help sell this camera, though I know it's more you than the equipment. My first apsc is a6400 (with Sigma 16mm and Sony 35mm OSS). I was contemplating in between a7iii, a6600 (or even XT4) as my next. After so much research, I was 90% for a6600 due to it's smooth auto focus transitions, ergonomics, form factor and of course price (both body and lenses). And you just made it 100%! Thanks for being so detailed. I learned so many about my next camera in this video alone compared to anywhere else (Yes I can read and understand English. But since I'm a new hybrid shooter, I don't really know what the hell I just read LOL!). Love your channel man!

What's up Firdaus! That is a nice setup a6400+16+35. I'm so glad that the video was helpful. This is a fantastic camera, and it will be a super natural transition. @idadlogy51354 жыл бұрын
Since I'm mostly a video shooter than stills, it wasn't just the IBIS (it ain't that impressive anyway but it's better than nothing). But a little bit of everything. And I'm just looking for my A cam (a6400 is my B cam and will stay in my studio most of the time; unless during travel of course). And I needed something that will last for a good few years. Initially I thought the next camera for me after a6400 would be a7iii (because it's a full frame). But I was wrong because I prefer my gears to be compact yet powerful. Besides, I don't shoot professionally and that flip up screens are so important for framing! So, a6400 and a6600 would be a great combo (trust me when I say this - it's so hard to decide because every information online keep suggesting either to dive straight to a6600 instead of a6400 or to dive straight into a7iii if you've already have a6400). But I didn't jump on the a6600 yet because it had a really bad rep ever since the launch. I've been tuning to your channel since I bought my first apsc (along with other stuff such as iFootage). Think I watched more than 50% of your videos by now. And you have a lot of detailed and awesome videos (despite being 40 minutes, I like this one the best). In fact, your quote "Buy it nice or buy it twice" is stuck in my head forever. Because it's true LOL!

Yup. Also, I'm aiming to sell the 35mm (idk why but the images it produces is a bit soft to my taste and I don't like how it looks on the camera especially with a cage; but it has OSS) and add Sigma 30mm, 56mm (to complete the trifecta) and Sony 85mm f1.8. While I'm pretty sure about 56mm and 85mm, idk about the Sigma 30mm and Sony 35mm. From your experience, which of the two is sharper on the a6400 (without IBIS)?

Awesome review. Thank you! Btw, would you recommend Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS instead of Sigma 16mm f/1.4, or not? Also, what Canon all-round lens would you recommend with Sigma MC-11 adapter on a A6600? Thanks for all the details once again!
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words. The 50mm 1.8 wouldn't be used for the same purpose as the 16mm 1.4 (much wider lens). Sigma makes a 56mm 1.4. What are you looking to use it for? Re: MC-11, canon lenses won't work for video. What are you looking to use and why a Canon lens?
@pm40104 жыл бұрын
@@TechGearTalk Thanks for the response. I'm looking for an all-round lens that is suitable for low light conditions(photography and video both). Is there any one such lens that I can rely on at the moment? Regarding the MC-11: You showed a Canon lens connected to this adapter in your video and the colors looked amazing with it. So was wondering if there any such, Canon lens that you would like to recommend in general. Also, didn't know that it has video restrictions.
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
So, no Canon lens with the mc-11 will give you continuous auto focus. The best all around lens (IMO) is the 24-70 f/2.8 Sony has a 24-70 f/2.8 but it's $2K... Sigma makes this lens which is nice: amzn.to/2xhrkE6

@@TechGearTalk I got rid of my Nikon D750, I was primarily a photographer but now I've switched primarily to videography since 2 years. Though I will continue with photography as well simultaneously. I'd ideally like to get a 90D with a Sigma 18-35 due to its versatility I can use it for both photography and videography coupled with a Weebill S. I feel the 90D is more of an all-round camera and is great when using on body flash and off camera flash through triggers for fashion and portrait shoots. The A6600 seems more video centric though with its Log and HLG profiles I find the dynamic range and low light is better than the 90D, though I would use the cinestyle style profile on the 90D for better dynamic range when it comes to color grading. If I got the A6600 I would couple it with the Sigma 16mm and 30mm APS-C lenses. They're both amazing cameras that's why I'm so confused but I would want something that serves me well as an all-round camera. What do you think and suggest?

Ok, let's break it down a little. I like the color on the 90D better (I know it's personal). I absolutely love that body. The AF on the Sony is better via the viewfinder - eye-detection is amazing. Hi, I am between a6400 and a6600, my intent is to use my camera as mainly photography camera, so I am a bit concerned with the lack of stabilized wide angle stabilized fast lenses to pair with the a6400, and I am afraid if I got the a6400 and paired it with sigma 16mm or 30mm f1.4 for low light photos, the lack of stabilization would affect my photos, and I would regret not buying the a6600 with IBIS, do you have a thought for that? thank you so much

Lots of people leases a car; the "worst" investment you can do... So why not a camera leasing? Only the menu of Sony's. Is it really that bad/complicated?? A had a Olympus OMD-EM1 for about 7 year and loved it.Great inbody stabilisation! A little worse at low light, but that depends on the lens of course. At this moment i use an old 7D, bought it here in Holland(Alkmaar) second hand for €300,- with only 3000 clics, yes not 30.000 clics, so not bad at all. But i'm looking for a smaller system for traveling. Also the availability of (third party) lenses. And..as you know for sure; it's about the photographer; the camera is "just" a tool..
