A huge shout-out to those who get stuck or get into impossible predicaments then call . . . then agree to be a part of the show. There can so easily be an element of hurt pride, particularly for the guys. And for the viewers there can be a snide armchair-warrior feeling of superiority when the most difficult thing they've navigated recently is the well-worn path to the fridge! But you are a vital part of the show. There's no shade or shame on those who actually get out and try stuff, and things go south (or "pear-shaped" as the Aussies might say!). I don't know about others, but what I see is someone who got out of the armchair and went to do stuff. And if you got into something that my years of getting stuck or in predicaments now enable me to avoid . . . it's all "learning curve". I certainly would not want to begrudge someone their learning curve -- especially when MORR has the gift of being able to turn it into educational entertainment of the highest caliber. BTW, I loved Jaymie's commentary on the marvels of thermodynamics as they relate to oak leaves on snow! I'm a lot like you in that I would notice and marvel at such a display of differential heating.

Thank goodness there are folks that rescue others. My last adventure involved ice under the snow sliding me in nearly the same position as the "prospector guy''. Luckily I had a hard plastic semi mudflap and my floor mats along with a tiny bit of unfrozen dirt to get me out after an hour. I didn't relish a 10 mile walk to town or sleeping in the Rav4 that night. FYI there is a very visible button that makes it go where I shouldn't be...

I'm beginning to dislike the SxS community more and more, they have a total disregard for public land, they think places like Southern UT and Southern NV is their own personal trash can. They disrupt natural vegetation and wildlife, this list of gripes is much much longer. TBH I would like to see the rental companies stop renting SxSs. They should be only operated on private land. Or the renter is required to take a safety course much like when you rent a boat. Any violation of the safety rules and your access to public land is revoked for 1 year. SxSs are getting a lot of public land shut down because of the reckless behavior and disruption to the local environment.

Tires make all the difference. All-season tires and you're cruising in that Santa Fe. With good ground clearance, that little car is surprisingly similar to a subaru. Add winter tires and conquer snow, even without AWD. Matt 20 point turns it around in similar stuff that got it stuck! Intuitive traction off and AWD lock buttons give you even more control, and Hyundai's traction control is impressive with real tires. I've had a couple of the newer ones, they're great in the mountains.

For Kaulin: The name nuclear football was given to describe the briefcase because it's needed to given the commands to use nuclear weapons. The first nuclear war plan was code-named "dropkick", so in order to perform "dropkick", you needed to use the "football". So the nickname came to be because of that. I'm assuming that Matt named the control box for the winches in reference to the nuclear football because it is needed to perform any recovery using the winches, hence it's the "football" in that situation.

You'll get to an age where you will wish you did! I used one for nasty spring plumbing at a sleep-away camp for decades (specifically a Ridge-Rest for durability, the ridge pattern that drained away moisture better than straight Ensolite pads, and ease of stowing) . I had to actually crawl under slightly-elevated cabins and the Ridge-Rest defeats a lot of water, snow, mud and slop; they keep you from bleeding off heat energy if you end up on the ground for longer than you'd anticipated. It also keeps you from transferring mud, water, sticks etc to your truck seat. Plus your bones and joints will thank you. If not today, then years from now!
