I appreciate your point of view. After doing meditation they way many do it I got bored and repelled and then eventually discovered to just be present in the moment and I get so much more out of this. Being all of me as I am. I am already enough as I am.

I have never understood why people find the matter of 'why meditate' troublesome. I guess that's a gap in my mind! For me, I have never found anything more interesting than meditation; and it improves my life, so I just keep going every day.

Formal meditation ( seated ) with eyes closed isn’t necessarily escaping. I practiced vipassana which is totally not about escaping , is about being with your body, being with your sensations. Being with your natural breath. This can bring forth an absorption and replenishment that is quite different to mindfully being in the present moment , like driving my car mindfully .. dont get me wrong being mindful when I wash my dishes and throughout my day is the way forward , but sitting in silence going into one’s inner being is not the same quality as going about your day mindfully. Good luck ! 🙏

This is wonderful, thank you. Over the last couple of weeks there's been a big shift in the way I approach the healing journey (specifically healing from chronic pain, which is really healing from trauma/emotional repression as I'm finding). I realised during the bells at new years that healing is really about loving every part of yourself. I don't find myself battling against my pain nearly as much as before. I'm listening to it and it's expressing long-lost parts of myself that have just wanted to be seen and heard. What a beautiful thing

Buddha's teaching is so simple. Its not about striving towards something or setting goals. You already are at your destination, you meditate to become aware of it and trust that whatever happens, happens. There is no learning process. I accept im at the bottom of the mountain but im making snow angels here. I give whatever is over to him and use any resistance as a window to self acceptance but from a calm non judgemental mind. Therefore we can accept ourselves as we really are.

That is called acceptance. Surrender to what is. If you can do that there is peace. The mind is still, silent. All other spiritual practices, when done properly, like meditation, witnessing, too can give peace. That is after all the real purpose of the practices. Peace, stillness, silence of the mind. What else?

Thank you so much. I kind of knew this, but I still needed this eye opener. I actually started crying. You are right. I've been escaping, and what have I been trying to escape? Presence is all, being is all. That's it.

Mindblown because just days ago I came to the same realisation - all this while I've been seeking teaching after teaching to escape the boredom, when boredom is exactly what I've been training myself for with years of meditation. It's hard to drop the habit of seeking, but I think I might try looking at it as mental nourishment instead of a life buoy. On mediating wrongly - today as I sat in meditation, a vivid imagery from my primary school days flashed through my mind. Nothing extraordinary, but so vibrant. I cried with, I guess...gratitude, or awe, when I realised I was as fully awake to life back then, as I am now after a decade of spiritual practice; I was fully awake even throughout my teens and young adulthood when I thought I was a trainwreck. The difference though, I think, is I now have a conscious awareness of these experiences - I've always known how to reside in those states, I just was never aware. So I don't think we've been meditating wrong, or even embarking on the wrong spiritual path, because we'd never come to these insights and conclusions otherwise.... Then again, who knows?!

Every movement of the mind in its seeking is whats Keeping you from the Realisation of Truth.. The Divine irony is though that we all Start with the seeking..Its a step in the process where the end and the beginning are one in the same...the practices and mental efforts play themselves out to the point of a surrender that is Not another creation of mind ....It is the Grace or Kiss of the Divine that comes when the mind is no more...In that Instant ,That which was Always there yet veiled, becomes apparant in the absense of the little self.

Some have that shattering moment you describe, where the deep struggle against the present moment and everything it contains (i.e., every thing) is known, instantly and permanently, as the mirage it always has been. Others of us know this to be true, but haven't had that in-extremis moment (from exhaustion, illness, etc.) that annihilates concepts so completely that they leave the body, as you describe. "The fight" has so many tentacles, largely hidden, that we need meditation to break the habit, even if for just a few moments, of fighting.

This worlds real. But it also has a dreamlike quality. Remember, only a little while ago,you were little, sitting in your mom or dads lap. Often it seems that a few decades have passed in a single second. Whatever we are experiencing here, wether joy or sorrow, has a dreamlike illusive impermanent quality to it. And everyone's response is different to suffering or elation, a certain individual will not find suffering bothersome whereas another may find it unbearable

Meditation as a concept can point at very different things depending on one’s the state of consciousness. Meditation in its purest form is the non path to what is (younness?), the unchanging perfectly still substratum of anything that seemngly changes all the time, but that in fact, ultimately never does ;)

Lets go a bit further. There is no time past present or future. What there is is geometry and interactions with the energy of space this is our universe. Our physical bodies are made from the same geometry as nature. This geometry is divine in that it is golden ratio based or fibonacci sequence based which is going towards Phi or the golden ratio. The golden ratio represents the most efficient use of energy. Our physical interaction with our body geometry and the energy of space is what we call meditation. That is the signal of our geometric energy signature and it's the same for everyone because we share the same kind of geometry. The characteristics of that geometry signal with a living energetic geometric being is a feeling of bliss and awareness. But in everyday life the signal gets mixed with noise and a successful meditation is to separate the signal from the noise. This is why we sit in a meditation posture and try to be quite, by that we are trying to tune in the the signal of our body geometry interacting with space. You can lessen the noise, that's one way OR you can amplify the signal above the noise. The first way is what everyone tries to do in meditation mostly. To amplify the signal one has to study sacred geometry. This is called the above ideas "The Golden Understanding." it's a way of approaching the divine through the creation.

Super..Very true....what is the whole point of having a Divine, if it does not include your imperfections. At that point the Divine is broken. As it excluded your imperfections. Hence you are seeking something that is not complete...which will make you incomplete too. The 7.19 Gita talks abt this.( Everything is nothing but GOD....the one who realizes this is very rare)

I think calling other meditation techniques 'wrong' .. is rather unhelpful ....where Jeff is NOW is all a result and culmination of all the previous paths he explored ... not IN SPITE of them . SO to look back and say what you were previously doing was 'wrong' is not the truth ... when you were 'trying to perfect yourself' .. it was just part of your journey ... so perfectly 'right' at that time. And who knows where you are now may not also be the final answer .. just another stop on the journey ? addiction, seeking, resistance, the pursuit of enlightenment are all part of your personal process, so none of it can be 'wrong' .. but through those experinces you begin to know what you can let go of and what brings true presence.

One thing I never understood here. As opposed to something that focuses on “spiritual perfection” and eradicating all attachments (Buddhism, Falun Dafa, etc.) how does this deter one from going a fully hedonistic path? Like “if nothing matters” or “it’s perfect right now.” Do you see what I mean?

Hey Jeff, love your take here but I'm curious of your view on indian saints (and many others) whom discovered that this physical reality is illusory and could in a sense, pop in and out of the terrestrial plane. Whenever a guru talks about themselves a lot instead of Wisdom, spiritual ego is obvious. Further the term "Addiction" is a medical trap to make one believe they are not in control of their choice. Until 20th century, the term was "Habit" not addiction. Wisdom does not use medical terms based on fear, lies, disease, conditions, all the same.
