No, we haven't been using it wrong all these years. The matt and shiny sides are simply produced in the manufacturing process. What ever way you choose to use the foil will give you the exact same results. There is zero difference.

It isn't, it is when you use it for a moment, but if you try it on exact same thing ans lay them out separate you will see the warm food with the shiny side inward stays warm much longer, also the shiny side has a lot fo chemicals, that's why heroin addicts burn the shiny side before vhasing the dragon because it releases a lot of chemicals inside smoke form that were left behind, it's a huge difference.

To protect myself from the evil bird transmissions, I made a hat with six layers of heavy-duty foil alternating matte vs. shiny side. Is this the approach you all would take? I’m wondering if the design I found on some site some time ago is not optimal after watching this.

Absolute nonsense. The matt side is caused by the foil rubbing against rollers in manufacturing, on standard foil both sides are equal. If you have non stick foil, then the non stick coating is on the matt side, so the food should be in contact with the matt side.
