Adanna The PA can any major get into pa school? As long as you meet the requirements? Also do you recommend to wait a year after applying to earn more hours on volunteering/internships/patient care hours if you don’t have time to fit into your school schedule ?

Brenda Reyes My PA program accepts any major as long as you have a BA or BS, but check out your PA school requirements to see what they require.

PA sounds rough! I will be taking some of my science and general courses at a community college, and then transferring to a four year. currently a LPN and I think I prefer this route rather than Nurse Practitioner.

Go bsn first
@TheArmedNurse3 жыл бұрын
I HIGHLY recommend going NP over PA. Your scope of practice is broader as an NP as you can actually open up your own clinic (within certain limits, of course) whereas a PA cannot under any circumstances work without collaboration with a physician. PA is a great profession, don't get me wrong, but if you are already a nurse then I would go for your RN at a community college then BSN, then NP. Both your BSN and MSN-NP can be completed online after you obtain your ADN.

Great info. If a school requires that you have to make a "C" or above for pre-reqs but did not mention anything about GPA what do you think that mean?
@FloraNovax34 жыл бұрын
Well that will give you a ballpark on your gpa.. because it’s the average grade. So aim for a B in above to be on the safe side.. it will average out to 3.5gpa

I am so scared going forward with this career path. As a young dumb 18 year old I went to college before I was ready and after my first year my grades were too low to stay. I took a year off from school and went back after a lot of soul searching and growth and have made a complete turn around and have not gotten anything other than a’s and a few b’s sprinkled in. I’m worried I may have already disqualified myself before I even found this career path. All my low grade courses were gen eds, is it still worth it to try?
@ABDlRlZAK4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but I’m pretty sure they look at the grades you got in the required pre-requisites. Depends on the school, but if you maintained at least a 3.0 in those science courses overall all together, you should be good to go.
@johnguillen683 жыл бұрын
As far as research, I know I have all the pre-req's for PA school or Med school by having a BS in Biology. I'm stuck with a low GPA and I can't do anything about that but try to apply to schools otherwise I'm looking a maybe 3-5 schools that will accept me with a low GPA. I'm worried about that but what else can I do? I guess if I don't get in this fall maybe I'll take some classes over at some other school just to bring up my GPA.
@AdannaThePA3 жыл бұрын
I mean that's all you can do. You apply and then if You don't get in then you just ask for the schools for reasons why they may not have accepted you and then you move from there. Make the necessary changes and then reapply. Change the things you can and keep it moving.

Update? Did u stay in healthcare
@johnguillen6818 күн бұрын
@@llamabeam Thanks for asking. I'm still in healthcare and still in the ER. I did speak with the director in the Lab on becoming a Medical Technologist. She put me on the list which I'll be next hopefully by January or Feburary. They will take me through their program while working in the lab as an assistant. The program is for 18 months and then I'll test for my license and be a Medical Technologist. I won't be making as much as an lab assistant while in the program but I'll keep getting a bump in pay as I'm going through the program. When I graduate from the program I'll get a big increase and then when I test for the boards then I'll get my big salary. I'm hoping for this if not then I really need to find out what to do. I'm most likely will fade away from healthcare and go into teaching Biology at a college. Of course, I'll go for my Master's in Education. I'm still trying to do something else on the side that's computer based. Coding and Data analytics. 2 separate things to try out. I just need to make better money and really start investing or saving. Where I'm at I can't do that because I'm not getting paid enough. I have a lot of bills and I'm getting garnished because I let a small loan lapse and now I'm paying the price. I'm hoping to be back on track once I get this loan paid off, hopefully by March 2025. Thank you for asking about my journey.

Hey! How old were you when you applied both your first and second time? I am also noticing I don't have all my pre-reqs (will take me 3 semesters to get these) and so I will be 26 when applying for my first time. Do PA schools tend to stray away from older candidates? Thanks!!
@raesianNW3 жыл бұрын
In my honest opinion, I don't believe being older hurts your chances at getting into any post-undergrad program. From my experience being older has actually "helped" me get the interviews and get into the programs in the past due to me having life experience compared to the other younger applicants! During my time in college (post military service) I have applied to numerous programs and actually never been denied to a program that I've chosen after getting an interview. I just utilized my previous experiences and acted myself during those interviews/essay's written and that's what I believe got it me in. Also, I've seen 30-40 PA applicants, my wife's classmate in Medical School is 52, and in my prior nursing program we had a 60 year old woman that got accepted! I had a change of heart myself and shooting for PA since I had the pre-reqs so lets hope that us older folks get in ^^. Good luck to you and your future endeavors! P.S- I'm currently 27 years old and will be 28-29 when applying and schools around me told me that my age wouldn't hurt me!
