I have nothing against the modern day games, but they're all playing it too safe. I mean, most video games we find around now are either compilations of older video games, boring and overrated shooter games, and cash-ins games that only take like 30 minutes to beat before you end up selling it back. Where's the creativity? Where's the fun? Why is it so hard to come up with new ideas?! I've played children's games that are more fun than that crap! :(

Part of the problem is technology. Because gaming technology has gotten so advanced and capable of pulling us closer to reality, everyone is expected to push the graphics as hard as they can, which takes up development time and data, which means less content and/or more derivative content that's easier to produce. Along with that, a lot of major companies(EA, Activision, Microsoft) have fallen into a complacent routine for games. They produce the same shooters and sports titles every year because they sell well. Because they sell well, they produce those games. And because they produce those games, they don't need to produce other games unless they're in an odd mood.
