I'm ashamed to say that I've always been a little put off by Joyce. I almost skipped this episode. But I really wanted to give her a chance and figured a casual conversation setting was the best way, and as I listened I realized that the things I disliked about her were the things I disliked about myself that we have in common. I've always struggled with self-esteem issues and, while trying to be available to others in times of need, never felt like I was worth someone else's time. But hearing how well you all got along gave me some hope. But what really prompted me to come here and make a comment on the video, even though I listened on Spotify, was the poem. That poem was transcendent! I'm not sure I ever related to a poem so much before. I'll admit I cry more than I like at things in movies and shows, but I think this was the shortest format thing I've listened to that made me cry. It was just so relatable. Joyce, I'm sorry I was almost so quick to write you off. It's nice to see someone who I can actually see myself in, even though I don't have quite the sailor's mouth that you do lol.

Omg that poem made me cry right off the bat. I'm in a long-term relationship now with the love of my life, in the midst of planning my wedding, happy as can be with him, but I felt like this for a long, long time. All my friends were in relationships at some point, experiencing love in so many different, oftentimes beautiful ways, but not me. I spent too many nights wondering what was wrong with me, if love would ever be in the cards for me. This poem really brought me to that time in my life.

That's actually so relatable, Joyce. Finding someone who is kind to you and sweet and caring. I wouldn't say my husband is unkind, but I also wouldn't call him kind or nurturing either. Have never dated someone who was like that and it is easier to find that in a friend than in a partner. At least in my experience, as well.
