You Can't Eat The Grass

Күн бұрын

The dahlias are exploding with colour, the harvests coming out of the garden for the farmers market are more abundant and beautiful then even before, and a $1000 day is looking guaranteed, until everything is put on hold for a trip to the emergency room! At least we have the walk in cooler finished this week.
__________
Ian and Serina of YOU CANT EAT THE GRASS feel that every small change can make a big difference to the world we live in. Every garden planted leads to a better future. We hope to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives by sharing our journey towards greater sustainability as we build our family farm. It's hard work to build a life worth living, and completely worth it!

Feel better, Serena. 💚 I've had to go to a food bank before, and I can say that by the time it gets to that point, it's been a good long while without anything fresh, so I'm sure your donation made a lot of hearts soar. I hope you can bounce back quickly and that the cause is found promptly and it's super easily resolved.

I'm sure those veggies meant so much to the food bank - for years I made dinner for 100 - 200 homeless people every week, and fresh veggies were VERY hard to come by on the budget I had. Most everything available was canned. I bet they were ecstatic. Please take care of yourself!

I should have wated. Pto comment. My wife is like yours, she doesn’t quit! She had some bad feelings that got worse so I called the 911 number. The fire department showed us super quick and took her to the hospital. What the heck? I was supposed to go first! Within an hour she had surgery and was ok and wanted to come home. The deal was, I would go first. This was not supposed to be happening. 55 years together and she broke the agreeement. She is ok now but I know how you are feeling. The heck with the market and everything else. She is the most important thing to you and the family. Get well and stay well. I’ll be praying for you both.

Oh my word,, you donated all that beautiful fresh veg ,, what an absolutely fantastic gesture of kindness ,, you deserve all the praise, health and happiness in the world ,, the smoke and extreme heat are the probable cause of your respiratory distress Serina so take it easy,, try and rest indoors between 11am and 3 pm and perhaps harvest in the evening for just an hour,, NOT go harvesting in your greenhouse at the hottest part of the day ,, all that bending over to cut the flowers may have taken its toll, you weren’t always wearing your hat so seems you’re exhausted,, get well soon, Best wishes from the UK, Lisa

My husband and I ran a flower and vegetable farm in Napa Valley for 3 years. It is a 24/7 work for sure. There's always something to do like weeding and watering, etc. One thing that kept us sane is that we took one day off- every Saturday we kept the Sabbath and did not do any farming, we rested from all our labors. We did hire my nephew and sister during summer time to help with the harvest and farmers market. Every little bit helps. By the way we don't have kids like you do. You guys work so hard. Wishing Serena well. Hydrate and rest and take care of your health. Great idea donating the veggies to the food bank. Sometimes nursing homes take donated flowers as well.

Serena, your health is a priority!! Your gardens, and harvests are so amazing. I remember one year my husband had similar symptoms. I got a phone call from his office. I was told my husband wasn't feeling well. He's asking for me to pick him up. I arrived to his place of employment. Hubby walked out white as a ghost, having breathing issues. As I was helping hubby in the truck, an employee was laying his briefcase in the back seat mouthing to me they thought he was having a heart issues. Got to the ER, of course they took us in ASAP. Gave him a nitroglycerin, loaded all the cords on him, started every test necessary for heart issues. Realized he wasn't having a heart attack, put him in a room (heart monitoring section of hospital). A heart doctor came in and explained he wanted to do an angioplasty up his leg to see what was going on in the morning. After the angioplasty, the cardiologist said hubby wasn't having a heart attack. His heart was strong as an ox, he was having a stress aschemia attack. Apparently, hubby was dealing with a lot of stress at work on top of his high blood pressure medicine HZTZ which was depleting my husband potassium levels which caused all the symptoms. Please take care of yourself!!!

I think this channel offers the most honest picture of what farming actually looks like, chest-tightening anxiety and all. It pushes me to come to terms with the likelihood that my gardening work is probably just an investment into an ability to harvest my own carrots. So glad the docs immediatly checked Serina for cardiac issues. My brother in law died from a heart attack at 41 years old. In the waiting room of the ER. They didn't take his chest pains seriously. You can't be "too young" for a heart attack. That beeing said, tightness or chest pain can also result from tight chest muscles due to stress (like tight neck/shoulder muscles). In that case physio can help (I guess you don't want to take a "relaxing" hot bath right now 🤣). Get well in your own time, mamas got it tough

Keeping you in prayer. As a fellow burn-the-candle-at-both-ends...mine ended badly. Get rest. Frying your body is not worth it, trust me. I ended up getting dysautonomia...multiple conditions and never recovered. Long diagnosis process. If the symptoms continue then a good rheumatologist and a cardioelectrophysiologist are your best bets in getting answers. Praying it doesn’t get that far. Sleep girl! Get some serious sleep! 🙏🏻💞🥰

Take care of yourself. Those late nights and lack of sleep will run you down. Women try to do it all. Good thing you have a hubby who steps up. Relax

Agree. But they should have kept the stuff in cooler and sold it via roadside market during monday-thursday. And also hiring help to handle the selling . Even if you end up making 50% after paying for the help , its far better than giving all your hard work away for free. Heck I'd ask the free food outlet if they have anyone who can help with the job . Plus any unsold stuff after 2 days roadside sale , they can get the extra stuff for free.

Yes, buy some knee pads for gardeners, take care of your bodies and health. Work harder, eat well and rest well. Any where in the world, all most everyone is working hard to make money to pay Bill's and raise children and support the family, how much money is enough??? Love from Singapore 🥰🤩
