What's interesting is that the circle in the book and the one used for the ritual are actually slightly different. The book reads "create a new version of self[,] one that transfers between man and woman and every in-between" while the ritual changes it to "create a new version of self neither man nor woman but something in-between them". I think this was because the original potion was made so one could gender swap for fun or more seriously transition, while the potion Indigo made was for a single transition to purely non binary.

One of the things I like most about this film is how the main character doesn't have any obvious physical changes after their transmutation is complete. It could just be a coincidence, but it gives off the impression that the main character really was doing this just for their own comfort and happiness, without a need to change anyone's immediate perceptions. Of course, it's perfectly fine to want the perceptions of others to change, but it's also nice to see a situation where that isn't necessary. In any case, I'm happy for them, and for this film's making!

(In the little animation sequence both genders merge, and at the end when master bingus looks at the book it says "How to destroy your gender" Which I can assume means, no gender, therefore non binary? could be wrong tho.

I once wrote a quick intro about a guy named Harpeen who would one day become the kindest human who ever lived. Harpeen was a young short boy with dark hair and a lovely smile. The first thing most people would notice about him was his bandage across his eye. He never knew what was under that bandage, but his parents always told him “it was best that way.” He was very social, though occasionally would stare blankly, as if arguing with himself. Along with his distinct character, Harpeen was highly academically skilled. Once he started school, he would move up a grade every few months. Once he passed the final test on every subject, his headmaster called him to tell him about a test for people around his town “with the same great potential as him.” He ecstatically agreed, and on the day found that, in fact, none of them had the same potential as him. Some kids were barely there, just trying to make it through anything, some people were muttering and concentrating and seemingly trying their best to do… something? And he realized that there was nobody that acted the same as he did. The headmaster appeared and ordered them to sit down. “On your desks you will find a paper. You will have 2 hours to complete all of the 3 sections. Don’t even bother trying to cheat by peeking at the person next to you’re sheet, as everybody has a different test. You may begin.” Harpeen looked down at his sheet and found things his parents were telling him when he was 3. *“What did the fairy godmother do to the pumpkins in Cinderella? In sleeping beauty, what was used to make princess Aurora _____? What did Snow White need to come back to life?”* he thought that his mind had thrown that garbage information away, but he found that he knew it, although by the end of the first section his bandages felt quite uncomfortable. The second part was quite bizarre as well, *“what are the herbs and fungi with the most concentration of their designated element? How many different forms of salts are there? What are the benefits of blood on a wooden spoon?” TakeoffthebandagesTakeoffthebandagesTakeoffthebandages* repeated the voice, demanding to be heard. He felt the bandages get tighter and tighter, yet the knots around his head seemed to unravel. Once the third section came around, he could hardly bare the feeling. Once he checked the final part, his face went white. He read it aloud, and strangely, so did every other person in that room. It may have been unintelligible, but Harpeen heard himself clearly. “What is the simplest recipe for fire!?” At that second a pain hit his brain. *TAKE OF THE BANDAGES* the voice shrieked. He blindly felt his arms sharply tug away the bandages, and he saw the most beautiful thing he had ever saw. There, in front of him, was a ghost of a map that had points that referred to different powers that he could reach with different concentrations of elements, with different herbs and fungi he could make. He saw, it, and he felt like the whole world, and everything that he would experience, was floating before him. He had 30 seconds left. He wrote down the combination of different ingredients and the order that they’re placed in and bolted towards the headmaster with harmonious grateful tears in his eyes. The headmaster didn’t even look down. He stared into his newly opened eye, said, “well done on opening your eye to the truth,” along with muttering “green diamond. Interesting.”and gave him a box. He ran off, and didn’t go home in the knowledge that his parents hid his true potential from him, he looked into the box and found a note. *”congratulations,”* it read, *“you must now realize that that test was for magic people. You, Harpeen, are an alchemist, and a powerful one at that. Take this bowl, spoon and charm and bring peace to this land.”* Edit: I found this and wrote that before realizing what this was about. Hope you enjoyed tho. Edit 2: I have a little poem I title ‘the headmaster’. I am the truest dealer. The dealer of the cards. this is such a cozy little film I could watch over and over again. the moment Master Bingus gave the Alchemist that kind of "did you think I'd be upset with you?" look and hugged them I felt tears in my eyes. I love this.

I'd like to point out that verdigris and silver nitrate (probably the most likely way to get silver into a potion like this) are highly toxic, so that might explain the hallucinations! (also like damn, bravo on the animation basically every detail about this is perfect)

This is really well done! I love the animation style, and all the little details! It's nice to see modern topics like gender dysphoria get shown like this. It was a nice story, and all around a great film! The pop culture references were fun too!

Speaking of all the little details, I love how the apprentice alchemist followed the steps that were written in their journal, exactly as written, and I love how I was able to identify certain ingredients, like the bismuth. There was even a note in the journal that adding the bismuth might be messy, and when they added the bismuth, the potion frothed up, overflowed from the beaker, and did indeed make a mess. So many wonderful details! I want more! I want to see what adventures they get up to next!

so from I can tell about the story, a alchemist cat (Tabaxi maybe) works on a potion following the theory of Rebis. A alchemitic potion capable of merging masculine and feminine genes into one, so by the end the cat is....now both male and female? I'm not so sure but because of the potion, his/her chromosomes fused with one another and now they have male and female traits. Their master, Bingus (funny choice of name) came down to check what his apprentice was up to and they were scared of being scolded and being kicked out. Bingus on the other hand hugged them, most likely feeling proud of his teachings have paid off to the alchemist. That, or Bingus accepts the alchemist's gender and sexuality after fusing their chromosomes. All in all I'm not sure if the young alchemist became a mixture of a male and female

Bingus is the name of the cat of Strange Aeons (or is it Strange Æons?), a hairless Sphynx. The protagonist of this story appears to be called Indigo and has indigo markings somewhat like a lilac-pointed Siamese.

I love this so much, the animations is sooooo good, the meaning is great, the ending is wholesome, THERE'S EVEN A MEME IN IT WITH BINGUS. it all comes together to be this perfect little package. And, to go to the spell part of it, the little alchemist (imma call them Indigo cause I saw it on their journal) has fused their genes, changed their body to better signify their true feelings, and become one with nothing, but when you are nothing, everything is equally possible. I hope to see more of Indigo in the future, and I wish you the best, but for now, I will subscribe to you to see where this road takes us

One thing I like about this is that a rebis is a real thing in alchemy, being a perfect being, and by all intensive purposes they are now a perfect being, kinda fits the idea of being able to be more comfortable in their own body, its nice. Love the animation, keep up the good work!

it's honestly a cute and wholesome little animation. tells alot in short time. great work. it's somewhat a shame the real world can't be so excepting at times. of course by the way the alchemist reacted, it may not actually be such a happy and excepting world. (Also I like the thought that anime you referenced may of somehow got transported from our world to there magical world, unable to read any of it but keeping it because the pretty pictures. who knows, maybe in another world there he also exists, following a completely different set of rules in how the world operates.

This is incredibly charming in every way. The story, the character designs, the animation, the music, everything. I do have one issue though: Indigo didn't even clean up the lab when they'd finished! Must've been super excited to take the potion then & there, cause they left that room a mess!
