Wonderful demonstration, the only criticism I’ve got is when you were oiling some of the pieces the picture didn’t cover what you were doing, just something to watch for, thank you for the rest of the demo.

The Centennial was touted as melding of two types of reel. The payout of line against the drag was supposed be similar to that of an old style baitcasting reel. The rest of the reel was to operate much the same as a regular spincast. I think it originally came out around 1958 and was manufactured until around the late 1960s.

Dan, Do you have any original advertising for the Centennial? I’d like to read the claims they made back then.

@@youngmartinsreels5314 I saw an original ad for the Centennial out on the internet a couple days ago. I'll see if I can find you a link to it.

Love the video...very well done. My Centennial has a black plastic front. I'm thinking yours might have a Century front/face on it

This is a truly ingenious fishing reel. It would have taken me some time to figure this one out! Great video Rick. - Chris (That other reel looks more like that small palm phaser they used after the larger pistil type. I’m a Trekkie too!)

Chris, I found it pretty interesting. I’m thinking about pulling it back apart, adding a slight bend to the copper washer, and cleaning off most of the grease in order to tighten up the drag without turning it down too tight. I’m glad you liked the video.

@@youngmartinsreels5314 That's a good idea, Rick. I had that same idea going around in my head.

The crankshaft doesn't screw out of the main gear. It's pressed in.

If you get the chance on your video descriptions add possible year of manufacturing of the reels and maybe some history of the company.

T-Dogg, I do add that information if I have it. However, each video requires about 4 hours to shoot, edit and post. I’m sorry to say I just don’t have enough time to try to research their history. However, many of the reels end up getting updated by my viewers in the comments sections. Some of my wonderful viewers are posting fantastic data. Chris Jenkins, Dan Selvig and Tommy Modesett are some of my biggest contributors. Thanks guys.

The Centennial came out around 1957-58 and was manufactured for around ten years. Old ads for the reel back in the late 1950s touted it as reel having features of a baitcasting and a spincast reel. I think it was made to appeal to the baitcast reel users who were on the fence about buying a spincast reel. Anyway, it is an interesting reel internally with its unique drag system.

is there a screw accessable through drag knob hole holding large gear to crank shaft?
@youngmartinsreels5314
@youngmartinsreels5314 Жыл бұрын
No, it’s been a while now but if I remember correctly, the crankshaft is splined and pressed into the main gear. It can be pressed out and pressed back in but it gets weaker each time you do it.

Edward, I have never worked on a 505 underspin. However, I think it will be very similar to this reel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH2xe6iIl896d8U I’m sure the spinner head will come off in the opposite direction that it spins when you wind the handle. Hold the handle tight and then rotate the spinner in the opposite direction.

Edward, I believe it was manufactured in the 1960s. That means it should be at least 50 years old. It’s the first of these that I’ve worked on. I learned a lot working this one.
