6:17 As an LGBT Swede, the song Simon is singing here is very significant to me. It came out in the year 2000, and is by a Swedish glam rock band called The Ark, who had LGBT members, and were very out and vocal about their support for LGBT rights in a time period when good representation wasn't even a talking point. (i mean, there has always been people fighting for it, but things have changed a lot since the 90's-00s.) The Ark became a household name here because of that song. I was 11 years old at the time and had just articulated to myself that I was bi for the first time. The song is called "It Takes a Fool to Remain Sane", and the lyrics talk very directly about standing out as different, and anxieties around wanting to live a life authentic to who you are. "It's your right to laugh at me / And in turn, that's my opportunity to feel brave" might be my favourite line, but the entire song is fantastic, go read the lyrics! lol The band also has a song called "Father of a Son", which was written in support of gay adoption and is a proper banger, one called "Tired of Beign an Object?" which is basically an anti-slut-shaming song making the argument that being seen as an object can be empowering sometimes, and "Beauty is the Beast" which is a song about the great harm beauty ideals can do, to mention a few. I'll stop ranting, but this band! In my mind, they were pioneers pulling us out of the apathetic 90s into the beginnings of a better future. I couldn't believe how perfect the song choice was for this series, the scene made me tear up, ngl.

Thanks for sharing all this! I didn't know the song or the band before discovering this series, but I love it! And it's the perfect intro to the story that's about to unfold, I love how the writers managed to give so much info from beginning to end via details like this, making the whole story so much subtler...I Love it !!

I’m so happy that they didn’t choose the dubbed version. It annoys me so much when people watches it dubbed and I don’t know why lmao. It may be because of the fact that I am Swedish so I actually know what that are saying without the subtitles but anyways, I love this series so much and have watched it like 20 times now lol😭❤️❤️

Part of the charm of Netflix doing foreign films is that over here in Europe not very much is based on known American clichés and not everything is Disney or CW. Notice the characters don't have plastic faces, they have blemishes, pimples etc. They have personalities which are based on their cultures and origins. Same holds true for Skam, WhatThe Fock, and Elite Spain, and many Brazilian and South American LGBT films and series. I'm Portuguese-French and live in Germany and the way people think and react etc here make the American series seem superficial and without real depth. I like the subtitles because when you hear these actors speak and emote, it reverberates in your very soul as you watch. Despite not speaking Swedish, it's more intense. And makes this show awesome.

While it is a well produced and acted show, it's basiclly a Spanish Riverdale: the plot is over the top and un-believable, it's too sex focused, the actors are too old and unrealistically attractive etc. While I've heard people say Young Royals follows all of the high school clichés, I feel like they're done and acted in a way that makes them feel real and grounded, not just the show ticking the boxes. Whereas as you say, U.S. telivision shows in comparison to European non-English shows feel superficial and lacking in actual depth, even when trying to appear more nuanced.

I´m from Sweden and the reason Simon gets called "socialist" is that the social democrats are one of the biggest political party in Sweden and basically are for high taxes and the working class. People with more money tend to vote for "moderaterna" instead. Also in Sweden you are allowed to drink in bars at 18 years old but can only buy alcohol when you are 20. Since they are in "gymnasium" the students are supposed to be between 16-19 years old, Simon and Wilhelm are 16/17 and August is 18/19. So it´s hard to get your hand on alcohol and very shameful to be an adult and sell alcohol to teenagers. Keep up the great work!

I thought Love, Victor was very good but Young Royals is on another level. While Victor only writes about his feelings in messages to Simon, Willhelm is showing ALL the emotions on his face with ACTING. Similarly while Benji doesn't have any scenes without Victor, here Simon is fully fleshed out character. Both of them (Simon and Wille) act (the chemistry!) and communicate like real people without forced drama. Everything was achieved in only 6 episodes which is astounding.

The swedish King was visiting my acting class once. The teachers said how to act and if spoken to we would answer with "Royal highness". But then he approched us and started joking with us which we we didn´t see coming. It was very nice and chill. Hours before he arrived - Säpo (security police with the in ears and sunglasses) came to check the classroom and we played the Darth Vader theme xD

I love coming back to your old videos so much, especially YRs now that the show had ended. Although I've watched the first two seasons countless times already, It's so sweet to come back to the beginning of their love story. I love Willmon endlessly. Knowing all that they've been through and how it ended, just warms my heart and makes me cry. Besides Skam, this is the best show I've ever seen. Edvin and Omar's amazing acting, nerve-wrecking and heartbreaking drama, fantastic soundtracks throughout all three seasons, such a riveting story from the beginning until the very end.❤

This show touches our hearts. For me personally it was very hard to watch this show because it kind of reminds me of my previous experiences. However I finished watching the show few days ago and this show somehow keeps coming to my mind time to time since then. For a guy who was born and living in a country which socially, culturally and justly doesn't support the LGBT+ community, I know the pain and feelings that both Wilhelm and Simon go through. It is so hard to stop yourself from loving the person u wanna love. In this show the problem Wilhelm face is being a Royal, though he lives in an accepting country. In our case we are not Royals but the entire country won't accept who we are. I'm in my mid 20s and it is so sad to think that any of the LGBT+ young kids in countries like this, won't get to feel the freedom, joy and bliss of loving the person they want to love without fear, for generations to come. Thank you Netflix for producing such amazing show, so the awareness will spread. The actors also did an outstanding job. Love is Love. Hope the world will soon become a beautiful place filled with love and joy. Love you all.

Hey, So happy you did reaction video(s) to this and I hope it has not been spoiled for you. It's such a good show and often you'll not see where it is going. And so many parts just do not feel scripted at all but very natural ... as you'll see. The leads are magic. Edvin Ryding (Prince Wilhelm) is phenomenal. And Omar Rudberg (Simon) is a wonder & he brings the singing voice. He did a pop-up promo gig where he and a "Hillerska choir" perform the two songs he does on the show, but I would maybe finish the series first. Thanks for this. i was watching bad buddy while you guys were watching it and i have missed you so now i am here as a proud swede. Wanted to tell you if you didn’t already know that this show represents swedish teenagers very accurately. even though not every swede is that rich (though a lot are well off, more then in most countries), you dont often recognize social differences here (there are exceptions of course). and we are on first name bases with everyone, with teachers, doctors, parents to friends, everyone. and even though they are prepaying at the table, sweden is the most secular country in the world. (and the initiation is not like that really… you never need to do something you don’t want to do) sorry for the long text, love you xo

This show is so god damn good istg, I’ve already watched it like 5 times I literally only (or almost only) European Netflix shows cuz they’re so good Also the actor of Simon is a singer irl and in a band, and their music is pretty good

I am soooooo glad Netflix give viewers a choice of subtitles or dubbed. Not every one is a speed reader (or Swedish) and pausing the film every time the dialog changes takes away from the film. And it is especially annoying when the dialog changes before the pause can be activated. [Yes, dubbed versions may lose a little in translation, however I get to sit back, relax, and enjoy 99% of the film] That being said, even with my large flat screen the dialog was unreadable. If I hadn't watch the entire season (in one day) I don't think I would have been able to follow this. Enjoyed your commentary and reactions, those I could follow. Anyway, loved the first season and can hardly wait for the second.

This is so far after the fact that you will probably never see it but, Ivar Forsling who plays Crown Prince Erik has said in an interview that there was a scene that was cut where just before he drives Wilhelm to the school he gives Wilhelm his frog-prince snow-globe that Wilhelm has loved since he was a child. I am so sorry they cut it. It would have enhanced the scene where Wilhelm picks it up when he is first in his new room at school and after Erik has died. Not that those scenes needed any more pathos.
