I feel Simon could have been more specific (remember he said he wasn't ready for anything serious, while the truth was he was completely and seriously in love with someone else which is not the same) but then again he's very young and inexperienced and probably simply didn't know it will cause trouble when he's not completely honest. It takes quite a learning curve to be honest in relationships. Who learns that growing up, I sure didn't.

Wille is recreating the moment he had with Simon in his room when he'd lost his brother. Just as Simon tried to recreate the first kiss with Marcus watching a horror movie. Its funny to see how they use the same ways to see if its about the moment or the person.

I have a few thoughts on some of the things you brought up. 1 Marcus was totally gaslighting Simon into staying in the relationship. 2 I think a big part of what attracts Simon to Wilhelm is that more than anyone else at that school, Wille could totally be an elitist snob jerk like most of the others but he is the exact opposite. He is genuinely nice, kind, and caring and he doesn’t hold the same political, social, and moral ideals as his classmates. 3. I feel the big disconnect between Simon and Wilhelm this year is that Simon’s way of dealing with the hurt and pain is to try to avoid it. He distracts himself with Marcus, we tried to minimize his contact with Wilhelm, but Wille deals with his pain by living it. He’s in his emo boy sad phase and he doesn’t understand how Simon is not. He mistakes Simon’s avoidance of his feelings as him not having them which we all know is not true.

I'm so happy that you see the manipulative side of Marcus. That scene at the stables either give people the reaction that you had, or they just go "aaaaw that's so sweet" and the latter just makes me want to scream haha. The gaslighting is crazy when you see it, but I guess the fact that some viewers actually fall for it shows how well Marcus is written.

Marcus has been quietly after controlling Simon from the start and it becomes so obvious here. Everything is still very much on his terms. Simon tells him he's not after anything serious and Marcus not only ignores him but plants the idea that any problem or failure within the relationship is Simon's fault. Marcus clearly knows enough about Simon's situation to dig at his vulnerable points and use it to manipulate him. That hug makes me gag because it's all about Marcus congratulating himself for keeping Simon in check rather than anything caring in any way. He compounds it further after the rowing competition. They've barely been seeing each other for 3 weeks but Marcus dives in with a PDA as if they've been together 3 months. Gak!

By this point, I’ve watched a lot of Young Royals reactions to both seasons, and as far as Marcus is concerned in this episode, you’ve given the best explanation/reaction to what is problematic and manipulative about his behavior with Simon. Everything about this episode made me feel really icky and quite weary of Marcus. Specifically when he started bringing up things about Micke and Wille - subjects that Simon hadn’t confided in him about - every warning bell was going off for me. As you said, he speaks as if he knows what’s better for Simon than he does. He doesn’t take him at his word that he’s not ready for anything right now - and that he won’t be. Instead he twists Simon’s intention, implying that he (Marcus) knows better how they should proceed in their relationship. And as you said, he touches him and acts in an intimate/loving way, which was prob quite confusing for Simon walking away from it. In particular, when Marcus says to him “you wouldn’t want to ruin something this beautiful,” I got really angry. By that point they really haven’t spent much time together at all, and they haven’t hit it off especially well. In fact, Marcus is more interested in secondhand information about Simon than he is getting to know him for himself. The best thing Marcus did was slow things down during the movie night - but every other physical moment between them was initiated by him - not Simon. In fact, Simon often looked quite uncomfortable and detached. Simon wasn’t giving any signs that he was in a position to date someone…and as the older person in the relationship with presumably more life experience, Marcus prob should have pulled back realizing they couldn’t/wouldn’t be on the same page anyway. And he certainly shouldn’t have pushed Simon for more when Simon tried to back out of things. Thank you for giving such thoughtful attention to discussing this in your reaction.

rethat questionn of Why Simon loves Wilhelm - Wilhelm SEES him ...if we pay attention Wilhelm ALWAYS calls him Simon ( not Simmie, not a pet name ) Also, when Wilhelm looks at Simon he looks at his face, not his body even when they are half naked in the locker room . When Simon sings the thing he loves the most in this world Wilhelm gives his full attention . .... noting in this world beats being seen and understood

You're definitely not reading too much into the Marcus thing, headwriter Lisa Ambjörn herself said in a live on her social media that Marcus is manipulative. And yes, August is the only relative left from the Royal bloodline. The Queen doesn't have any siblings and she only had one cousin, August's dead father.
@RedBanana_ Жыл бұрын
*Additional things I’ve noticed about Marcus:* - Marcus and Simon are at *very* different points of their life, and while 16 and 18/19 isn’t a *massive* age gap, Simon lives with his mother, cannot drive and is a first-year (at the school that Marcus works with!!) and Marcus is almost finished with school, has a job, lives on his own and can drive. Marcus lives like a young adult (which he technically is) while Simon lives (and acts) like the teenager he is. - Marcus *works with Hillerska.* He might not be a teacher but that doesn’t stop there from being an obvious power imbalance there, *especially* when you consider the lack of security cameras at the shooting range (by that I mean, Marcus could tell the teachers that Simon was there and being intentionally dangerous or something and who are they to tell him he’s making it up?) - When Marcus and Simon went to karaoke together, first of all, Marcus flat out ignored Simon’s ‘no’s and basically was like “come on, we’re singing (whether you like or not)”. Then, when they actually got onto the stage Marcus completely clears up any doubt that anyone in that room had about Simon being the guy from the video when he introduces Simon as “Bjärstad’s own: Simon Eriksson”. Now it’s not Marcus and some guy singing together, it’s Marcus and *the Crown Prince’s ex* (whether Marcus intended it to come across like that or not). Edit: when I say Marcus ‘works *with* Hillerska’ I mean, as his parents rent out the stables and shooting range to Hillerska, he technically works alongside the Hillerska staff.
@Nelly-44 Жыл бұрын
Agreed... one correction Marcus works for his parents NOT the school .. they / his parents, own the stables, and the shooting range as well as rent land to the school. ( they offer the service to the school ) ... but there is a power imbalance indeed ( in his size, though not a noble or as wealthy as say Alexander Marcus is not from the same class as Simon, he also has way more experience . GREAT point though. about introducing him as “Bjärstad’s own: Simon Eriksson” I did not clock that .... But then again i was weary of him from the moment he entered Simon's room uninvited ...
@RedBanana_ Жыл бұрын
@@Nelly-44 I mean, realistically, while Marcus doesn’t directly work for the school (which, I phrased what I meant really badly) teachers definitely would take his word about what happens at the stables or shooting range because, let’s be honest, he’s probably treated like a proper adult because he works at the place they rent out, to tell him he’s making stuff up would be like going on a school trip (field trip??) to somewhere and then telling a worker that they must be making stuff up about the behaviour of their students.

Simon: "I'm not ready for a serious relationship. I don't think I'll ever be ready for a relationship with you (A.K.A even though we were never official, I'm breaking up with you)." Marcus: "I'm in no rush. We'll take things slow. (A.K.A I'm pretending to give you boundaries, but am, actually ignoring your desire to breakup)." The next day: Marcus kisses Simon in front of everyone without Simon's consent. I've seen literal therapists talk about about all the red flags Marcus gives off. Oddly enough, I'm sure Marcus is a good friend, but he is a BAD romantic partner. And just wait. I didn't hate the Felice thing as much on a 2nd viewing. You can tell how hesitant both of them are; like they aren't sure if they're feeling this. They were definitely overthinking everything. The same scene with Simon was mirrored almost exactly. It flowed so naturally. Like Simon and Wilhelm were caught up in the passion, knew exactly what they wanted to do, and their desire guided them. It was clear Felice and Wilhelm both kept thinking, "Do I want this? Is this weird?" Why am I doing this? Do I want this for the right reasons? I guess I might as well try. I trust Felice/Wilhelm." The kisses between Felice and Wilhelm alone are like these weird little unenthusiastic pecks. Totally different than Simon and Wilhelm's. •NO SPOILERS• The next episode also helped, albeit did make me a little mad at Wilhelm (though in an understandable way).

Hii! I love your commentaries!! Okay, to what I want to say... I 100% agree with you on Marcus. The statement that set me off was when he said "You don't want to destroy something this beautiful". That's the worst thing he could've said at that point bc of how vulnerable Simon was. Another thing that completely set me off and made me dislike Marcus even more, was at the boat tournament thing. Idk if you missed it, but when Marcus was congratulating Simon, he said something. "Don't worry, we'll get them next year". That just flipped me completely. He says it as if they'll last for that long, and it just shows that he knows exactly what he's doing and he's doing it anyway. I would've been less harsh if he was manipulating Simon unconsciously, but he knew what he was doing. And that makes me hate him. Also, willhem didn't fuck him over, the whole video situation did, and it affected BOTH of them. So yh... Marcus pissed me off. Again love your channel and I'm waiting on the next reaction 😊😊😄

The self-absorption is real with Marcus. He's so good at grooming Simon I'm expecting Chris Hansen to show up any minute. As for August, it's entirely possible for him to be both an incorrigible narcissist and a wonderful boyfriend, as long as being a wonderful boyfriend serves to boost his ego. The problem is that he doesn't genuinely value love (romantic or humanistic) enough to make real sacrifices. It's not that narcissists can't do the right thing, but it's just as easy for them to justify doing the wrong thing.

I think one thing Simon love about Wilhelm is that he is who he is despite that not being who he should be. It’s almost like he’s a rose that grew int he cracking a sidewalk. And his very existence is proof that some things are just inherently good. I know that’s a confusing statement so I’ll explain. They are at a school where the elites go. And all those elites act the way they’d supposed to. They wield their wealth and power like weapons on anyone they view as beneath them. Then one day the freaking prince shows up. And he is so elite that he makes all those rich snobs feel inferior. He has all the social power to reduce everyone to mere peasants. But he doesn’t do that. Despite being raised a Prince, he wants nothing more than to just be a normal person. He never asks to be treated any different (until he starts to exact his revenge on August) and he’s kind and excepting to everyone despite that fact that he should be the worst of the worst.

The Swedish expression "sosse" means social democrat (but has been translated to socialist to make the point clearer I guess, I dunno of it's workikg tho) - when used by upper class ppl, it's definitely like a slur meaning like "poor" or "middle class" or maybe in some cases, overly idealistic? (for a long time, the social democrats ruled Sweden due to their popularity, so the upper class and especially nobility developed a strong hate towards "sossar", using it in many derogatory ways).
@yeahjoanna2 жыл бұрын
So when other people use "sosse" it might NOT be a slur, it all depends on context. In season 1 and 2, both Simon and the therapist are called "sosse" by the boarders at Hillerska I think.

I'm one of those people who didn't realise at first how manipulative Markus is. It was obvious as soon as I saw comments like this video, and it scares me a bit that I didn't see it at first. What I concluded on the first viewing was that Markus obviously had done plenty of background work. He had probably seen Simon in the public eye and formed a crush based on whatever image he had formed in his head way before even talking to Simon. So he has this fantasy of them being together, and when Simon shows any kind of interest towards him, he latches on to that fantasy where they're on their way to live a happily ever after. I'm sure that kind of thought process easily leads to manipulation, and honestly that's what I should have realised right away, instead of feeling just a bit sorry for this fanboy who gets his hopes up for nothing. I'm glad there's great analysis like yours to be found online that broaden my thinking :)

2 things. Yes, Marcus is creepy. I wonder if he isn't suddenly there because Simon now has "celebrity" caché. Anyway, he gives of bunny-boiler vibes, and I don't like him. And Sara/August! He really does like/want/need her. She makes him a better person, at least while she's in the room. She gets him. She doesn't judge him (she bloody should!). Just wanted to say that Wille wanted Simon to stay on the rowing team, because Simon specifically mentioned the rowing when he said they could talk. So it's a lifeline for Wille to stay in touch, so he made Simon cheat with him so they'd stay on the team together. Wille sounded quite petulent when Simon pointed his privileges out to him, an immature reaction on having the negative consequences of Wille's selfish behaviour explained. He needs to get a grip and listen to Simon, because every single one of his selfish choices hurt Simon.

Also if someone says “I don’t want this” you back off. I’m interested to see more on how you feel about Sara. I feel like most people forget that she’s on the spectrum and therefore doesn’t have the same logic or emotional reactions one might expect. I love that they made August more complicated and human. The truth is that very few people are just 100% bad. But he is the embodiment of entitlement. In episode one he says they could kill someone’s and get away with it. The idea that there can be repercussions for actions is just beyond him. I love your reactions and your thoughtful discussions ❤

Marcus is just a big red flag. Simon tells him down right he doesn't want anything serious, he manipulates him in the worst low hit way to stay with him and establishes himself as a bf in public from there on. Showing up in public for 'support', kissing him in front of Wille and later even telling his Mom about them being together (minor spoiler). I just don't like him. I adore how well Omar played Simon's helplessness with it though. You can tell he's uncomfortable but doesn't know how to break it.

Once I saw the conversation when Simon told Marcus he wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, I went back and watched their other interactions and there are red flags with every one of them. I tried to give Marcus the benefit of the doubt, but after the shit he pulled in this episode I just can't. He's manipulative and spiteful and it's clear that he's not only trying to piss off Wilhelm, but also that he's trying pit Wilhelm and Simon against each other. August is a really hard case for me. While on a fundamental level I can understand that he's human and he derves happiness and compassion, I can't bring myself to feel bad for him because there hasn't been any consequences to the shit he did to Wille and Simon. In the aftermath, he got together with Sara, got his full tuition paid off by the queen, and has been offered the title of Crown Prince. It's not fair. What you said about Wille and Felice was exactly my thoughts; I'm so sick of the TV trope where the male and female lead HAVE to get together at some point. Just let them be friends.
