Wow, that's a walk down memory lane! My da loved kippers, mother hated the smell and would leave the house - I seriously think that was the only reason he cooked them so often, so we'd get some peace and quiet for a while!! 😂

To save on washing up, put the kippers on the plate you cooked them on, it will be hot and help keep the kippers hot.

Take out of the packet. Chuck the butter. Put on plate and cover with a microwave cover. No smell and they taste better.

Well that one certainly got up Nat's nose. Was that a bit of dry reaching I heard? Great value for the convenience of these frozen Kippers. Mmm they looked so good. I love them on hot buttered toast with a splash of ketchup. Best to 'Boil In The Bag'! This keeps the offending aroma to a bare minimum. Microwaves are notorious for dispersing food aromas good and bad. Nice one Keith. Cheers 👍🤤😀

Afternoon NAT and KEITH. I love kippers but the bones put me off a bit. And they certainly stink the place out. Try mackerel fillets from a tin. Loads of different sauces available and pretty cheap. Have on buttered toast. 😋

@@kirstie7187 honestly if you have not tried mackerel fillets in a tin you need to try gone up in price but so has everything. Our fave is spicy tomato sauce. Sainsbury's and probably elsewhere. On toast or in an omelette. Try it. 😋

The problem is today unlike when my parents smoked kippers in the sixties to eighties the herring smoked today to make kippers are imported frozen herring, yes oil content good but large fish with large bones. In my parents day we only smoked summer local and west coast loch Fyne herring to make kippers. They would be classed as a luxury dish nowadays. Sorry I don’t recognise any of today’s kippers as anything like we produced then.

I’m banned from cooking these in the microwave as they stink the house out but I do love them. I find boiling them in a saucepan of water they don’t stink the house out as much and once there done I will go and eat them out in the garden lol 😂
