I used to frequent a salon. The owner did my nails. She was great at nails. But, every time I sat down in her chair, she would make phone calls, or jump up and go do other things. Once, someone came in when she was at the top coat stage of my set. She literally told another tech to do my top coat so she could do the person who just walked in. I never went back because I didn't feel like she valued my business.

Another no-no for a client: do NOT ask the tech for the cuticle nippers, files, or any nail tools. Just tell us what you would like us to fix or adjust, that’s what you pay the tech for

It's funny, that last one. One day I was giving a pedicure, the phone in my pocket began to ring, my client asked, "aren't you gonna answer it?" and I said no, I'm giving you a pedicure. She said oh I wouldn't be able to let it keep ringing, I told her I treat my phone as if it's a landline if it's important they'll call back, if it's someone I know and want to talk to they know I'll call them back but my phone but my focus is on her at the time. As you look at that scenario how rude would that be for me to be on my phone giving her a pedicure!

I laughed when Tracey said she is more than fine with her client talking on the phone. (Says every introvert everywhere) That would be me- I would encourage it. Or put on a movie. I certainly CAN engage in conversation, especially with someone I’ve gotten to know- but I know I wouldn’t be the one driving into life stories right off the bat.

When I would go get my nails done. It was so annoying when the mail techs would be having conversation In their specific language. They would be talking and laughing. I would be sitting there like... Are they talking about me. So rude

As a nail tech of 33 yrs, I agree with each one of these and I could go into nightmare stories of each one...but let me add, on the nail tech side, be VERY careful what you talk about, even if it seems that the client is getting into the conversation, they could just be dealing with the topic until they can get out of there, if they want to bring up a taboo subject, that's fine but just let them talk, don't add to it, even if you have a great story to add to the Convo , just don't....and as far as music goes, if you are in a mixed race salon, keep it top 40 music...white girls, don't play country, black girls don't play rap.... keep it neutral music...like, I'm a white girl and I don't like rap or country, I love urban rock...but in my little place I've opened up on my property, I do all black women and I still don't play rap, but I play soul..R+B, because I like that and I know they do too....ok, I'm done, awesome video 💗

That's funny ur clients like the opposite, maybe I worked in out west of Canada farming towns.... and as clitch as it is? Everyone lobed country and top 40 pop rock and old school. . Also every salon runs differently so each to their own. My own pet peeve is techs wearing slippers to work and dressing like they at home watching TV. It makes ur salonnlook ghetto.

How do you deal with people who will try to leave without paying, or how do you prevent that from happening in the first place?
@youngnailsinc2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately this can happen from time to time. If you feel like your safety is involved, it is best to let them go rather than fighting over it or chasing after them if they leave. Contact the police and give them any info about the client you may have. In order to avoid this situation, there are many online booking systems you can utilize that require a credit card to book the appointment. This way you have. a guaranteed form of payment.

Being in a single person studio, I have a lot of freedom regarding clothing, music and decor. However, I have learned that I need to be sensitive to the politics and religious beliefs of my clients. I discovered this when I chose to display a bipoc/pride flag on my wall. A client questioned me regarding this. I was prepared with my answer and saved the day, but it raised my awareness that this may not be appreciated by all of my clients. Not all money is good money. I love everyone, no matter who they are! It’s not my place to judge 💕😉.

subject music: I used to go to a hairsalon where they played music off spotify playlists. as soon as the boss left, it was just a big fight about who would play the next song or playlist, they kept changing the music mid song, and every single one of them kept walking away from their client to go play THEIR song. so you had half a reaggaeton song, then some cardi b, some 70s heavy metal, back to reaggaton...I usually don't say anything in cases like these, but that time I did complain and asked my stylist if there was any way they could just stick to ONE playlist and let it be. and I never went back.

A tech that was in the same place as one of my former nail techs was like that. She'd curse in front of her clients. She'd answer the phone in front of her clients and it'd be another one trying to book an appointment. She'd curse at the one on the phone and talk about them to the client in front of her. She'd discuss personal things and it'd make my techs clients uncomfortable. She did good work but her attitude was off putting.
@marissalorraine87003 жыл бұрын
Cussing like that for me - just indicates lack of self control. I wouldn’t want someone who has no self control to do my nails. Thas just me!

Thank you guys for making this video, I would also like to add smoking and vaping to the client and nail tech's side. It is bad manners wanting to go smoke in the middle of a service. You are inconveniencing a service that is supposed to be relaxing and also wasting time.

Just a point on the music, I was watching a nail video on Instagram and the background music was so wrong, I commented about it to my husband. It was full-on rap with the f-bomb going off and about how he was doing a woman so it's not only in a saloon that you need to be mindful of the music. Another no no for techs is speaking another language to another tech, it makes you feel so uncomfortable and you don't know if they are talking about you or another customer.

Just want to shed a little light on the foreign language situation. Some techs only speak their native language, or foreign to only english speakers, becuase it is all they know. Just keep an open mind that it may be the only way for the techs to communicate. Absolutely not trying to argue or be rude. Just want to give a different perspective
@yasand17603 жыл бұрын
As long as the nail tech can communicate with the client properly about the service, it shouldn’t matter what other languages they speak. Only in the USA do we not normalize people speaking in their native languages. I’ve been a client many times of places where they spoke to each other in languages I couldn’t understand and it doesn’t bother me one bit because I also speak a second language and know that it’s bs to assume they are always talking about you.
@mazmain92483 жыл бұрын
@@yasand1760 I am not saying that they are talking about me but it makes me uncomfortable. I also speak a second language but not in front of people who can't understand me, I was taught that it is rude to do so. Maybe I am from a different generation to you

I had a nail tech who was constantly on the phone during my entire appointment. She held the phone between her shoulder and ear. Also if I had to have an old acrylic nail taken off, she would grab it with clippers and just rip it off. She ended up divorced.
