I've eaten this way for the last 3 years because of severe osteo arthritis. At age 70, I'm sure I'd be in a wheelchair by now if I did not change the way I eat. Lost 150 lbs even though I never focused on that. He's right about the fat. You will have fewer cravings and get hungry if you don't get enough. If you get diarrhea, that's how you know if it's too much. Constipated? Then eat more fat. Aside from arthritis, many other health problems just went away. This protocol works!

I'm not strict carnivore, but it seemed like within a couple of weeks of lowering all carb's in general and doing specific physical therapy, plus heavy supplementation, my right hip and knee feel SOO much better. @@ZenithBeyond Hello!😁. I mainly fish, meat, eggs and above ground veg and colourful salads. I also eat double strained Greek yoghurt and aged cheeses ( Lactose bothers me). I grow my own herbs and salad leaves as much as is possible and make my own dressings with decent olive oil and red wine vinegar.. I find eating pickled foods in the same gut load as my protein helps my digestion as does fresh lemon juice squeezed on meat or fish. I went Carnivore for 4 months...I felt great but I knew I was missing colourful veg, ie. the reds, yellows, orange and purple. I grow a few organic potatoes in the summer ( glysophate upsets my system) and use the reduced starch trick ie. Cook, cool, refrigerate over night and you can eat potatoes with upto 25% less problems re an insulin spike. And although I try to keep carbs below 20 to 40 g per day, I also eat a large navel orange or a sharp green apple each day. It just helps to keep my system 'right'. We are all unique and you must find what your body reacts well to. Wishing you well in your endeavours. 🥳

@@snowman2970 Not true about vegan and vegetarians, there are Indians that have been eating this way for many years. My body unfortunately repels most animal products, just the smell of it cooking makes me feel sick as well as the taste. I gave up eating meat at 20 after having spat out a mouthful of fatty lamb which made me gag. Fruit and vegetables don't have this effect on me. My addiction is sugar but have given up a lot of the rubbish I used to eat. I am not overweight, underweight in fact. Resistant starches don't have the same blood sugar spike effect, there was a program on the BBC with blood tests before and after which proved this to their disbelief. So starchy foods that have been cooked, refrigerated and then reheated, leftovers for example, are resistant starches. Also, some women, me, who are menopausal and not on HRT, tend to develop osteoarthritis. It's not one size fits all I'm afraid. I bought a book called Eat Right for your Blood Type which makes sense to me. I prefer to take supplements to help and will try the exercises for my knee pain and hope this helps.

I am hoping and praying that this anti-inflammatory lifestyle will help me reverse this disease. Your other videos have also been enlightening and encouraging!! God bless you!
@shapefixerАй бұрын
Scleroderma is linked to an auto'immune response, ie your immune system falsely attacks the skin, "thinking" some or other protein in the skin is a "foreign" protein (so an infection). This causes inflammation, then the body responds to the inflammation by over-producing collagen to "repair" skin that is not actually damaged. Apart from meds to control some symptoms (which often suppress the immune system, or block collagen formation; two bad ideas!) something you should very seriously consider is shifting from a "ketogenic - type" diet (which is what my "Arthritis Diet" guidelines are, basically) to more of a "carnivore-ish" diet, and see what happens. In very many cases of auto-immune disease, the immune system is falsely seeing your proteins as "foreign" because of the presence of one or more "non-proteigenic" amino acids (the protein building blocks) incorporated into your protein. These amino acids work, but they are not the ones we are supposed to use; there is not problem with function, so they could normally work just fine - unless your immune system is particularly strict, in which case it will attack you! (Think of writing an essay with a few typos - we can still read it and it makes sense, but a particularly strict grammar teacher might tear it up because it is "wrong"!). Here's the kicker: Over 600 such amino acids have been identified in nature so far, any one of which could be mistakenly used by you, resulting in an immune response; and EVERY SINGLE ONE comes from plants! So if you cut plants from your diet for three months, you'll know if that's the problem (and cutting plants is fine - there are no nutrients, vitamins or minerals you won't get from animal products. Oh, and fiber? You don't ctually need that either!)
@teresahannon32725 күн бұрын

I can't believe that tomatoes are anything else other then great. I have always read that they are an anti-inflammatory food...and also great against prostate cancer.
@shapefixerАй бұрын
Tomatoes are actually a bit complicated! There are chemicals in tomatoes that are anti.inflammatory straight away (ie short term) but other chemicals that act over a longer period, that increase inflammation. Same with spicy peppers. As for them somehow, magically guarding against a specific cancer, I can only think that sounds like nonsense. I'd be very surprised if there is any kind of proper study on that specific link - and if there is, PLEASE share it if you know, I'd love to read it.
@barryfoster453Ай бұрын
@@shapefixer Wow - are you serious? You've never heard about tomatoes and prostate cancer??? This just from the very top of Google's first page... "David Neal of the Department of Oncology, together with researchers at the Universities of Bristol and Oxford, looked at the diets and lifestyle of 1,806 men aged between 50 and 69 with prostate cancer and compared them with 12,005 cancer-free men. Tomatoes and its products - such as tomato juice and baked beans - were shown to be most beneficial, with an 18 per cent reduction in risk found in men eating over 10 portions a week. This is thought to be due to lycopene, an antioxidant which fights off toxins that can cause DNA and cell damage. Vanessa Er, from the School of Social and Community Medicine at the University of Bristol and Bristol Nutrition BRU, led the research. She said: “Our findings suggest that tomatoes may be important in prostate cancer prevention."" But there's page after page of study results!!! You really shouldn't dismiss something as 'nonsense' until you have done some research. And, I must admit, for me, it places a new caveat on your statements about arthritis.
@shapefixerАй бұрын
@@barryfoster453 Wow Barry, I hadn't heard it, and I said "Sounds to me Like..." - I did not say "Is nonsense". I will read the study, obviously, as I am intrigued; so thanmk you for that. But just two quick things (before I've read it): 1) you quote the study “Our findings suggest that tomatoes may be important in prostate cancer prevention."... you see "suggest" and "may be"? That is the language of scientists who are well aware that correlation does not mean causation. 2) If lycopene, found in tomatoes, does indeed have a beneficial effect on DNA, then lycopene as a supplement could be a good consideration - that way one gets any benefit, without the other inflammatory chemicals and sugars in the fruit.

@barryfoster453 Right, I've now read the entire article that you quoted from, so allow me here to add the section immediately following on the extract you quoted , namely "Our findings suggest that tomatoes may be important in prostate cancer prevention." It continues: "The significant protective effects were observed in Asian and Oceania populations, but not in other geographical populations. As there were no significant results in cohort and high-quality studies, no firm conclusions can be drawn at the present time. Further large-scale prospective cohorts, as well as mechanistic studies, are needed to clarify the relationship between tomato food intake and prostate cancer risk." - So pretty inconclusive we can say. First time finding you, all is very sensible and doable. I have Osteoarthritis and have a r knee replacement 10 yrs ago and need hip one soon (don’t want) however I also have barretts esophagus and laryngopharyngeal reflux which entails needing low fat. I need to lose 35 lbs and having a terrible time as have had to not eat anything acidic and not much fat… any idea how I can do this! Well lol can’t estimate tomato sauce, peppers, black,peppers, berries.. I can eat most veggies just not onion garlic. I know berries and onions garlic are all super healthy food but as soon as they are chewed my throat burns and then am in flare.
@shapefixer4 ай бұрын
Has anyone ever discussed with you that the original trigger for Barrets is acid reflux damaging the cells of the oesophagus over time? The standard treatment for acid reflux is "back to front" as lowering the stomach acid actually causes it to come up more often. Please check out my video on Acid Reflux (just search the term on the SHAPEFIXER channel page) and see if that makes sense to you, and if you might be able to do it?

Thanks Andrew. This is very clear. Two questions I have: 1. Most people adopting a Keto (or similar diet) are likely to lose weight. And weight bearing on the joint is obviously an aggravating factor in OA. But what evidence is there that the improvements to OA aren't just down to the weight loss? I am a 42yr old male, 5'11 and I'm already a healthy weight for my height. But I have OA and joint space narrowing in my right knee and am looking to make improvements to this. 2. Why us alcohol bad for OA? Are all forms of alcohol equally bad? What about some alcohol in moderation? Like red wine?
@shapefixer4 ай бұрын
1) There is no "evidence" that improvement to OA is "just down to weightloss", as for eg in my case I did everything, and the combination worked; but my hip would ache after a day of bad eating (that's not weight) and it also ached when I carried very heavy thangs (that is weight). Losing weight, reducing inflammation, eating healthy food and having better energy are all great improvements generally anyway. 2) Alcohol is bad because it is a poison (you would die after a single tot if you did not have a liver to process it!) that causes an inflammatory reaction. Of course more is worse (like anything) so if you are a drinker (like me) then you monitor how you are feeling and make your own adult decision about whether to drink or not, and when, and what, and how much. So check the alcohol contect of your drinks, and be aware of what else you are drinking (sugars in beer or mixers for example)

To the point of moderating inflammatuion, yes: but you won't "cure" it as RA is an Auto.immune disease, so treating inflammation and boosting cartilage regrowth is not going to fix it - the "fix" would be to get your immune system to stop destroying the cartilage. I am working on a video about this, but I recommend these videos about auto-immune conditions generally: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYinXoSso7CKp80 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXWsaKd_pJ6EbKc

i find when i include some small amount of starch foods, I feel better. I also love the root vegetables (parsnip, celeriac, jerusalem artichoke etc) and also squashes - they work so well for the digestive system. Not so sure why no beans / legume? It seems like a cultural divide, these were first foods of many cultures. So how can they be inflammatory? Same with some kinds if beans. Many traditional cultures eat these foods with no ill effect - it’s the modern diet with processed ingredients that causes so much illness, is how it seems. Anyways - what about very thin people with osteoarthritis / osteophytes - but eating plenty of healthy fats and very little sugar for most of life.
@shapefixer17 күн бұрын
As the saying goes, "the toxin is in the dose". Your body can process moderate amounts of most "bad" things - even alcohol (which incidentally would KILL you if you did not have a liver!). Historically, when a few natural legumes were the extent of potentially inflammatory consumption, it was fine. Now, as you say, so much of our food is modified or processed, that our bodies cannot cope.

About 2 months in now, doing exercises you've mentioned + keeping carb's in general much lower than ever and have been feeling so much better. Have severe osteo in my right hip (was told I have the hip of a 70 year old at 41yrs of age), and even though a doctor didn't diagnose it, I can guarantee I have it in my right knee as well. I'm already 100% sold on arthritis being manageable through proper nutrition and physical therapy. Now, can cartilage actually grow back and can I avoid surgery? Time will tell, but the majority of the community doesn't believe in that. I'm just gonna manage as long as humanly possible, and not even think about surgery. Just went on a 2hr hike in the Poconos mountains and felt fine. Bizarre!

Sorry to take so long to see this! I too am a very serious runner and cyclist, having represented my country at duathlon and triathlon for many years, so I know what it takes in terms of energy supply. I eat NO carbs now; just fat! Last week I had a plate of pork ribs for dinner, with nothing else. The next day, at 11am, on NO breakfast, I did a 100km/60mi mountain bike ride over tough terrain which took 5 hours. NO energy bars, gels or snacks on the bike and no "energy drinks" (just water and salts). My first food of the day was a plate of meat and eggs at 5:30 pm. And I was fine! So you can do it, dont worry at all.

Last 2 years I drastically reduced carbs, eating mainly meat and dairy products (eggs cheese), no sugar. And now I have huge joint problems I didn't have before. Isn't it that meat elevates uric acid, which contributes to arthritis? Now I am super confused, I was an advocate for keto, diabetes went away, hipertension went away, but my joints started to protest and I am lost. One thing though I admit I did wrong - not too many vegetables ? Still, not sure what path to take now.
@shapefixerАй бұрын
Gout is associated with Uric Acid, plese watch this video below to see why that happened. You need to be on a keto diet that has high fat. Keto is not just "low sugar"; its "high fat" - otherwise you burn protein for energy, by turning protein into glucose (sugar) and a waste product of that process is Ammonia (NH3) which is toxic and gets converted to Uric Acid. Hence, gout! kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioHdmqZmbd-amdU

So what happened after two months? You reverted to your old diet? Or the pain just came back? The weight came back? Or you carried on, but didn't get any better? Did you combine the appropriate exercises programme with the diet, to address the cause of the arthritis? Do you have osteo-arthritis, or rheumatoid arthrits? (RA is an auto-immune problem and the diet would be a bit different)

Make sure you eat a lot of fat, rather than lean protein - its low fat protein that causes your body to burn amino acids (protein) as fuel, which overloads your kidneys trying to get rid of excess uric acid.

@shapefixer4 ай бұрын
Calcium deposits often happen when you are low in VitaminD as it is needed to carry excess Calcium to the bones. If it does not get there, you develop several problems: 1) calcium deposits, 2)osteoporosis, and 3)various other symptoms of too much calcium, like a persistent dry cough. So try to get more sun exposure on your skin, or take a VitD3+K2 supplement, and check out my video on calcium: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZDPeWd6a9N8aZI

There are in fact something like 28 types of collagen in your body. They are "human collagen", so you have to make it. You make it from the amino acids in all the protein you eat (including collagen - its a protein too). You are definitely not going to be eating any human collagen, so no collagen you can possibly get hold of is exactly the same as any of the 28 variations you are going to need. All protein you eat - whether collagen or any other - is broken down in your stomach juices, and the amino-acids are then absorbed. So the important thing is to eat a variety of protein sources to get the widest selection of amino acids possible, and if you include collage in your diet - either by eating sardines, or chicken skin; or from a collagen supplement - you are more likely to have enough of each of the amino acids you are going to need. Any collagen supplement is going to help you (so long as it's actually collagen, of course!) and the "type" debate is, I think, more marketing hype than anything else.

Unfortunately there is no fixed time as it depends on so many variables - ie how badly damaged is your joint? How quickly do you heal generally? What exercises are you doing (or not doing)? Are you on any other medication that might be interfering with the healing process? What are your stress levels (cortisol hormone)? Are you getting enouigh sleep? etc etc... so there is no "rule" that applies to all. How many weeks is "several"? It took me three months to feel about 75% better, and a year to be 90 to 95%. Some have been quicker, others longer, and some (sorry to say) do not recover as the damage is just too severe. In those cases, a joint replacement is eventually unavoidable (but its a small percentage)
