Your Bible arguments won't change minds UNLESS...

I often hear from LGBTQ-affirming Christians who are thrilled to discover a solid affirming Bible argument-then frustrated when they can't get others to listen to it. The reality is, sending Bible arguments to people rarely changes their minds...unless you do one very important thing first.

Thanks for this! I often tend to think "I changed my mind because I read these 3 books", and forget I actually read those 3 books because I wanted to change my mind.

I have noticed that stories draw on empathy, and empathy is more likely to cause people to change.

ALWAYS so insightful Justin. I have shortened this in my head to "the learning curve for this person is just to steep to hear what I want to say." I certainly will not go to your step four because, experience tells me, the time invested is likely non-productive. Relationships with LGBTQ people, LOTS of them, then education. Or having a reason to "ask the question," like. child coming out, can shortcut the process. You have done a GREAT job in letting people see who you are. As I have told you many times, YOU were the first gay Christian I ever got to know. Not a bad start at all. ;)

That LAST misconception though... almost brought me to tears. I’m having a continuous conversation with a non affirming friend and I had such a hard time communicating that being gay isn’t exclusively about sex! It makes so much sense why that conversation just left me frustrated

I wish there were more stories and books on that topic in German. My parents don't speak English and I'm afraid of coming out to them, because they are pretty homophobic and transphobic :/

Terribly underrated. Though I may be -atheistic- agnostic myself, you are doing your God's work. This applies to all debates in all fields. Get your target audience to ask the question first, then give the answer to the question. This is of use to everyone who wishes to prove anything to anyone. I am grateful that you made this video. It will help me both in this context, and any other time I will need to prove anything about anything.

Thankyou this really helped! I had a gay bible debate with my homophobic sister and it didn't go well at all and she wasn't open. Her mission was to convert me to her view. So now I know why since she thinks its a choice and also thinks conversion therapy can make people straight.

I wish I could hear more from you on your third point. It all being about sexual temptation. I don’t understand your argument. If gay means being exclusively sexually attracted to members of the same sex, how is this not about sex? Maybe not an activity but it is about sexual attraction. You list off things like human connection, intimacy, family and such as if your sexuality is what defines them. How? All these things can exist without sexual attraction. Church people in this category are in my experience on side with gay people having access to all these things. Often I have heard from churches the importance of helping gay people have intimate healthy connections with members of the same sex. And yet their use of these words would be strictly non sexual. I would love to hear more from you on this or if this is covered in more detail in your book, please someone let me know. I may have to grab a copy. But as of now I don’t see how your point makes much sense

It's definitely covered much more thoroughly in my book Torn. But I'm happy to discuss this in more depth in a future video also. If you send me a message via my website, I can email you directly to follow up.
