Mate I've had two bikes stolen in London. One was my S1000RR which had a tracker fitted along with Almax chains. I now have a hidden engine kill switch installed. This will at least stop them bypassing BMW's security ignition system which is clearly not very good given the CCTV cameras caught them riding it away.
@neilhuband9957 жыл бұрын
BaronVonGrumble I always thought the speed limit was 10% +3mph. Like 36 in a 30 was your maximum, or 58 in a 50. I'm sure you don't need the maths lesson though. Watched your videos for ages mate, keep it up. (the videos that is) 😉

Petition to organize a bait bike operation and get a couple cops to head it. If bikes get stolen so often, they'll catch them this way in no time. Get the word out for riders around london to donate some cash to pay for the bait bikes and equipment. Then you do half the work, and all that would be required at that point would be for the police to do their damn job.

Same thing in Denmark. Yesterday 5 scums tried to hijack my KTM while I was on it. 10 seconds later two police cars stopped me and said not to drive two on a motorcycle since gangs does the shootings like that "here". I told them that few hundred meters just now I almost lost the bike. They did nothing, refused to even drive for 5 seconds. So police bother and stop honest people while letting scumbags do whatever they like...

There is no money to be made for the state in genuine crime but shit loads in doing you for 23mph in the new 20mph zones etc and when the police say they haven't got the resources for reviewing CCTV for theft etc, they will always have the resources when there is easy revenue to be extracted from public they are now excepting and processing video from the general public to fine people for traffic offences, remember all their directives come from government. Did you know the police and courts are a registered business? and the most important part is that crime actually works for the state because it gives them the justification to legislate new 'laws' that of course will only really effect the law abiding citizen, a justification of control and control is what its all about.

@Babtridge7 жыл бұрын

@mintyvision84647 жыл бұрын
carnafillian113 there is over 8.5 million people in London, and 31 thousand police officers. Bike theft and bike enabled crime is a huge issue that would take more than just a few officers. There needs to be more secure parking with better security measures, more powers for police and more support for them so that they can go after offenders and bike owners also need to be more sensible. So many bikes that get nicked are left without any disc or chain lock at all. Trackers are also a great idea but few seem to use them. They should be standard on higher end bikes. Manufacturers should be building more security features into the bikes.

Had my mk 3 golf GTi parked outside a friend's house on a main road in Manchester once. Just came back from a long drive and forgot to take my sat nav out of the car. No more than 5 mins passes and I hear the window go through, I run outside to see some scroat running down the road with my sat nav. I start the car n chase the cunt, seen him turn left so I take the left turn and he's gone, I jump out and go into the back garden of the first house on the street to look for him, no joy. As I'm walking out the back the little prick comes out the front door and walks into the back garden with my sat nav in hand. He got what he deserved and I got my sat nav. The stupid bastard lived 2 doors away from my friend's house and it was his brothers garden he ran into when running off with my property. I seen a brand new Samsung phone on somebody's garden step once with nobody around to stop me picking it up and walking off with it but that didn't even enter my mind, I knocked on the front door and gave the phone to the girl that lived their. The point is that some people are just scum with no morals.

SkeletalBob so how does that work then? The camera needs to bounce a signal off the vehicle back to the camera twice to measure the difference and calculate the speed. The speed cameras take two pictures in rapid succession and use the difference travelled in-between to work out the vehicles speed. I believe to evade this you need to do a minimum of 180mph (though newer cameras may use different technology)

I can understand thieves logic, why would you not steal some bikes when you risk virtually nothing? We have the same problem is France. Regular bikers (AKA guys who actually afford and care abour their bikes) are being harassed by the police and charged huge premium by their insurance while the thieves are driving stolen bike without helmets and doing rodeos without any issue. If they are arrested they have no insurance, no driving licence and no money (at least on paper haha). Why would you even look for work when you can make a couple grand per week while having fun? This double standard is driving me insane.

As usual in the UK, the punishment never fits the crime. I am always staggered at the end of our Fly on the wall Police programs we have on the TV (of which we have many) what poxy fines, suspended sentances, and community orders are handed out for quite serious offences. The Judges handing down these sentences need a properly good kick in the bollox (or twat) and start dishing out proper, relevant punishments to the Scumbags.

I think it was in another Baron rant but a bike thief gets done for £180,000 worth of stolen bikes (that they know about) and gets a 6 month suspended sentence. Biker hoists a little minger, BOOM, 1 year in prison. WHAT.THE.ACTUAL.
@casey3603607 жыл бұрын
There is something to be said about our laws here in the US. We've had issues with motorcycle theft, I started carrying my 9mm Kurz pistol externally while on my bike, it magically is left untouched anywhere I go, and I have zero issues with riding through the really bad areas of where I work. On the other hand, it does welcome violent situations with those who are better armed and more motivated to steal.
@marsh84177 жыл бұрын
Baron, as you pointed out; Police hands are tied. Current policy means they’re not protected by the law if the little wankers get hurt. The only way anything ever changes is if there is money/votes in it. What needs to happen is that the public in large numbers demand that Police Pursuit policy is changed to protect the police and the victims, not the suspects. They must be allowed to use the training they have been given without being prosecuted for trying to do their jobs. Second, the public need to demand that the sanctions are tightened against bike thieves so they can expect a custodial sentence if caught. This is unlikely to change whilst the prisons are overcrowded however. Third, failing all that we should bring back the stocks and publicly flog the little fuckers when caught...pipe dream I know...
@Vandragorax7 жыл бұрын
Firstly yes, we need to stop valuing the human rights of thieves and criminals above the human rights of the potential victims and police force. They already caused a crime and are escaping? Chase them no matter what, if they kill themselves in the process then great one less criminal on the streets. Secondly, you're also right that prisons are over crowded but there is never a need for capital punishment (or flogging etc.). There are currently not enough public service sentences being handed out. They can work menial tasks for the benefit of society to work out their punishment, not get an easy life inside a cell full of TVs and gyms.

With regards to speed camera tolerances, I believe you get a 2mph leniency plus an additional 10% - the 10% constitutes inaccuracies in the vehicle that can occur as a result of different conditions. Ie if your vehicles speedo calc baseline is based on healthy tyres of a specific size and tyre spec (manufacturer dependant) ... but the tyres are more worn the reading the vehicle has on the speedo can be inaccurate. Also can be totally skewed because of heat levels and the expansion/contraction of air in the tyre and rubber.

All valid points. Your suspicion that things are dramatically different in the US is somewhat misplaced. There is a tremendous leniency toward "under represented minorities", under-represented in the sense of managing to graduate from secondary school, in the legal system. There is a resurgence of much of the petty crime that hamstrung US cities in the 1960s to early 1990s. Of course, now that the crime rates are down, there are grumblings that the same minorities are over-represented in the general prison population. Maybe cutting off hands is the answer. I would certainly take a finger off of a tagger for the first offense and each successive.

yeah they're just another big insurance company. I haven't had to make a claim with bemoto yet, but getting a quote with them was good they talked to they're brokers for me and called back. not just the first number they get on the computer and thats it.

I work in commercial insurance, most of the time we can't even get quotes for vans inside London I've had honest conversations with clients saying if they want insurance they have to go live somewhere else

I think most average speed cameras are foward facing so no problem on a bike.

The first average speed camera is just before @ 2.44 then the second is @ 2.58 & then the third is @ 3.09 Baron ! The third average speed camera is hiding a little bit behind the trees !! After that there's no more average speed cameras matey just the usual speed cameras along there . Great vid , keep up the good work mate :)

I moved from Reading when I was 7 to South Australia; 10 years later dad reckons it's the best thing he's ever done. I can walk down the shops and leave my dog tied up outside or my bike unchained. Quite often see people who jump into the bakery and leave their cars turned on on the other side of the road.

Hey Baron I've always been curious about the sorts of things you do in your day job. I'd definitely enjoy watching a video featuring some of your work and hearing a bit about it!

nowadays you call a man a man on twitter and you get arrested, meanwhile someone steals your bike and police does not even attemp to investigate.

Welcome to the Kingston part of the a3. Where average speed cameras now make a once good bit of road crappy. I remember when bikers coming up from newlands corner in Guildford would see how fast they can get before that camera before breaking. Mostly because that camera was off 90% of the time anyway.

Had a close call myself when this all started happening but didn't have a camera at that point on my helmet. Tried using Bemoto insurance but was still ridiculous pricing (yes I live in London) and the insurance quotes have just gone through the roof. Might not be able to insure the Versys next year as over a grand for insurance is ridiculous

Had my R6 & month old RSV4 parked outside my apartment building in different spots. Thieves got my R6, but couldnt get the RSV4, I guess because I had 2 disc locks on it and it weighs 1,000 lbs. Anyway, I now park the Ape in my 10th floor apartment, and the police found my R6 a month later. So its not always bad. But I do need a house with a garage ASAP.

Good old Barron and his rants. Been waiting for a good rant on here to be honest. This one is legit tho! I had my Speed triple stolen from me during my first visit in London. Parked it, chained it + disc lock. Few hours later it was gone!
@kiwiandyt1237 жыл бұрын
Totally agree about those average speed cams - couldn't believe how many of them there are these days. Not only do they induce mind-numbing (and potentially deadly) boredom but they also put vehicles alongside each other for much longer, increasing the time when some muppet can decide to change lane into you without thinking.

What a trip, I had an old Yamaha TT600 stolen this morning. They pushed it a few blocks and dumped it on the rear brake pedal, locking up the tire. I got very lucky!

Baron, It's the same with push bike theft in London. All you get from the Police is a crime number so you can claim on your insurance. I even found mine on Ebay a week later. I phoned the investigating officer to tell him and he said it would take too long to get the details from Ebay and as the bike was now technically owned by the insurance company "then if I wasn't bothered then nor was he" Yes he actually said that. Total waste of space.

I’ve heard the Italians do the following on average speed sections: 1. they learn what section is being measured. 2. they check if there’s a cafe on the section. 3 if yes, they take out their Ferraris, and do 200mph, then stop for a coffee within that section!! :)))) only thing to watch is how long You’re staying in the cafe

I agree with you good sir, when I stayed in the London area I had my push bike stolen (of high sentimental value) I had cctv of the boy leaving his house and then me coming out of the front with the time frame fitting perfectly and even had previous cctv of the same kid breaking open the charity boxes in the church next door the previous week. All was deemed circumstantual evidence as he was not seen taking the bike on cctv. I have also chased off two kids trying to steal my then new 125cc bike 2 weeks after I got it, the police did much better this time with dogs and such but no luck in capture. It's the cutting of officers, so lesser crimes have to be pushed back. But if you stop people from breaking windows then everyone is safer.

They should take the "average speed cameras" and position them in the car parks above the motorcycle parking areas.

Be careful with the camera's,....legally you can be done for just 1mph over the speed limit....the 10% is up to the local council/police wether they allow that leeway or not. (Found that info out on my speed awareness course). Also BeMoto were very good to me, would definately recommend them.

He's back....the baron at his best, pissed off and angry. I fooking love these videos. It had everything, waterproof jeans, amphibious vehicles for the dry land, disempowerment, catching the eye of a lady boy, cameras more annoying than Richard the hamster Hammond and mithical 👮. I haven't seen a police (that's not garding an embassy) for years. The ones on telly are probably just actors. Lovely stuff........keep it up 😵

How's this for an idea; you fit your bike with a finger-print sensor, and if that sensor detects that the bike is being moved without the sensor being activated first (a.k.a, it's being stolen), a large pair of metal pincers concealed in the frame shoot out and grab whatever genitalia the thief may have, excruciatingly hard?

Average speed cameras and "variable" speed cameras are becoming a nightmare on the motorways. You see so many phone users, when the speed drops from 70+ to 50 because of the variable speed limits the phones come out.

The culture of bike theft over there is absolutely baffling. It's nothing like that where I'm from. I've never had my bike stolen or heard about someone else's bike having been stolen around here.

I used to park my street triple at one of the Q car parks; the one in Knightsbridge and believe it or not the bike would be safer outside on the street as someone reversed it it and broke a lot of the fairings and in other occasion some idiot tried to steel it inside the car park!! They have no staffs in the car park and the cameras do not work. The Police said to me they can do nothing and I should try to put more security devices as it is like this all around London. So annoying.

Do forward facing Average Speed Bananas get bikes? No numbo plate on the front? I recently rocketed up the A9 in Scotland with Average Speed Bananas a plenty and I was definitely exceeding the speed limit by quite a bit in certain places, yet no ticket. Will probably get one through the post now as I have confessed?

Indeed, a colloquialism of 'number plate' or registration.
