Thank you! I feel the same way. I struggle with comparison of my daughter and my nephew who are both homeschooled. My daughter is at or a little below level. My nephew is years ahead. I’m happy with where we are, what we are doing, and especially with the fact that she has learned so much about God and the Bible.

I cannot believe you posted this video today as JUST last night I was sitting up around the 3am mark thinking and worrying to myself about how I feel like I’m holding my daughter back by not sending her to public school because in my head she wouldn’t be “behind” if she went there. I literally was going to send you a message asking for advice about it because I know you’ve got such solid views on the very topic. I don’t think it’s just coincidence that this was posted today, perhaps I was truly meant to see it. Thank you for your support and for helping uplift homeschooling mamas and their families! Sometimes I sure wish I could hug you and grab some coffee together! 💖

I filmed, edited, and posted with 24 hours which NEVER happens. It was laid HEAVY on my heart to do this video. Maybe it was for you. Either way know you are not alone and you are doing amazing mama!

Needed to hear this today. This is my first year homeschooling my second grade son and I was starting to compare and feel down about it. Thanks for all your videos. You have been so inspirational.

Needed this reminder today! I often worry about it. That quote was the BEST! That makes me realize I need to stop thinking we might be behind! Thank you as always!!!!

I have struggled with the mindset of is my child behind, learning enough, etc. too. I am slowly letting go of all that. Your video is a beautiful reminder of some amazing reasons to homeschool! Each child can have an education tailored to their learning style, interests and speed. The best part is they can ENJOY learning! Thank you for your encouraging words when we all have times of doubt!

Thank you!!!! I feel the same way, although it took me 5 years of homeschooling to accept this.

Yes!!!! 100% agree. I love this video. This has always been my stance. I think it’s easy to try to compare our kids to others, especially with social media. I know I have to remind myself to stop comparing from time to time because my kids are where they need to be.

I agree. This is a great reminder for us moms who are perfectionists.

Completely agree! My number one goal homeschooling is to foster a love of learning. My second goal is to teach my kids how to learn. I can never teach them everything, but I can teach them how to learn everything. I think as in most things in life comparisons are not a good idea. Standards are arbitrary and no student (public school, homeschool, private school) is learning everything and more importantly retaining everything. I really like your idea of keeping track of goals and working towards those.

This hit home with me on so many levels. I needed to hear this and be reminded that we are all individuals and learn differently. My Samuel learns very easily and I still worry am I doing enough. Thanks for the heads up about this book.

THANK YOU for sharing! I was trying so hard to push my daughter in math....but it's not worth the trying to "keep up". I don't want her to hate it, I want her to love it. We will be continuing life of Fred and some other simple facts.

Trust me pushing too hard will only result in negativity. Just keep doing what works and the fruits of your labor will show soon.

For math, you and Emily might like Lavender's Blue Homeschool math for 1st and 2nd grades. It's story-based math that is very engaging. You have to buy the whole curriculum, but it's worth it just for the math. For the first few lessons, you could read the stories and just skip the practice, since Emily will be ahead of that level. But it's a really solid introduction and teaches all four processes right off the bat--teaching that numbers can be added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided and how that is all connected. It's a bit "crafty" but you can buy the different elements rather than making them (and they're not expensive). Thanks so much for all your videos!

I needed to hear this today! The past couple of weeks has been a bit rough, so much going on and I have felt like we were behind, but my main goal was for my kids to love school. This has been such a help. LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!

Thanks for this. I just started homeschooling my 8yo daughter this school year. We are working on the “love to learn” aspect right now. In fact we’re doing your Passport to Adventures and really loving it! My husband asked me the other day if I was worried about her getting behind because of my relaxed approach. My answer was no, but it is so true that doubt and the urge to compare are SO sneaky!
@TheWaldockWay5 жыл бұрын
It does sneak in sometimes. But loving to learn outweighs the need to "keep up" for me. Even though I have no idea who I am keeping up with 🤣

This is great timing. My 13yo daughter who came to us in summer of 2016 is working at a 3rd ish grade lvl and the program we use is getting on us about it even though she has an IEP and has gone up from preschool lvl to 3rd since we got her.

Very well said Jessica! I do struggle with this and worry I'm not providing the best education possible or that I'm not teaching what I think she should know. I'm so glad you put this video out there to remind us not to compare our child to other children! Isn't that one of the ten commandments to not covet your neighbor? I'm guilty of this sin!

The thing is, in public school the teacher is teaching to a full classroom. She is teaching and at the majority of the children get it, they move on. If a child doesn’t get it… Too bad they move on anyway, and that happens enough. The child loses heart and does fall behind and basically can give up. And Homeschool, we can make sure they get the concept before they move.
