Of you have the same issue, chew with the other side of your mouth, keep mewing and do facial exercises. Put your tongue up the roof of your mouth, teeth not touching, close your lips, and breath through your nose.

I know this works, I was searching for something else and something popped up about nasal breathing, I found it fascinating and did more research. I started doing it 24/7, fortunately I had no trouble doing this, I know this is a strange thing to mention but when it happened to me I took nasal breathing very seriously, I have always been a nose picker, with 24 hours I stopped because my nose was completely clear, their was nothing to pick, next I was having difficulty getting in and out of my car, very soon this went away also if I had to get on my knees to pick something up I had to grab something to help me get up, not any more I just bend over and pick it up, my posture is now extremely good, I sleep like a log, when walking up hill its a lot easier, I'm not stopping to get my breath, their is lots more but I think you get the gist, just to prove its never too late I'm 77. and of course it good for your well being, sadly I tried to tell my younger brother about this, he just stared at me and said don't be stupid everybody breaths through their mouth, he has bad posture, a terrible temper and other issues/

Hi Sarah, I think i don't get the probably most important thing. --> Where the TIP of the tongue should be, when at rest and when we swallow? Should the tip of the tongue be on the incisive papilla, or behind that, on the palatine ruggae? I'm trying to correct my tongue position by myself with pretty good results because i think that i'm good to subliminally remember where my tongue should be, and my breath (and other stuff like posture and relaxing) is MUCH better since i'm doing that (keeping the tongue on the palate) BUT my main problem is the fact that i can't understand if the tongue should "finish" at the incisive papilla ( the "n" spot is "the spot" ? ) or if behind that, with the tip of the tongue resting "into" the palatine ruggae ? So basically my question is : where is the spot? On the incisive papilla or palatine ruggae?
@sarahkh127 жыл бұрын
Great question!! The "Spot" is basically between those two locations - slightly behind the incisive papilla :)

Hey Sarah, question. I’ve always been a mouth breather because of a moderate deviated septum and have only recently learned to adapt and breathe through my nose after seeing your video. I have noticed improvements! However, I’ve noticed that the lower half of my face is slightly longer than average, from what I’m guessing is a result of my mouth breathing. As I’m only 18, is this something that will become more proportionate to the rest of my face over time as I continue to nose breathe? Thanks

Hi Sarah, I'm 22 years old and have mouth breathed my whole life. I also have an underbite which I now attribute to the mouth breathing. Unfortunately I had orthodontic work throughout my childhood and teenage years, but they never thought anything of the mouth breathing. Recently I have been practicing nose breathing with my tongue on the roof of my mouth, but this gets exhausting and I can't sleep like this as the force keeps me awake. Do you have any recommendations for keeping the tongue in the roof all night? - Sophie :)

It took a lot of will power for my to hold that posture. It's been 3 to four months and to my surprise my mouth isn't crooked anymore. I used to struggle holding my mouth properly. I was alway told I was attractive, but I was alway self conscious about holding my mouth a certain way and being seen from the side. I thought my mouth poked out to far and my mouth was noticeably not symmetrical. Luckily it wasn't enough to make me ugly. But since this my mouth sits perfectly. I'm no longer afraid to be seen from the side. I know it's not wishful thinking because I did this for weeks with seemingly no results. 3 to 4 months in and big difference. I'm in my late twenties and I think it's possible idk that because I've been doing things to increase my hgh that I'm seeing quick results. My bones a guess are still growing

you should place your entire tongue against the roof of your mouth not just the tip. start by touching the back of your two front teeth with your tongue, then pretend to swallow and close your mouth. you will know if you are doing this right if you feel tension around cheekbones and your chin shouldnt be hanging. you should feel just a little tension but not too much as then you wouldnt be able to hold you tounge there. To answer your question your tounge is supposed to be on the roof of your mouth unless you are talking, eating, drinking. just keep your tounge against the roof of your mouth, lips closed and breath through your nose. it will be hard first few weeks or even month so leave reminders for yourself and youll get used to it and get good results i hope this helps stacy Best of Luck

I’ve been doing this since I had bioblocs and invisalign. Luckily I only started mouth breathing in my early teens (when I was 10 my teeth were perfectly straight, but by 13 were crooked) so it wasn’t so set. I have a question though- I’m planning to get a nose job. My surgeon is an ENT so breathing issues are far less likely but they are still a concern, and nasal breathing has helped me considerably. Should I talk to my surgeon about this? And what can I do to prevent relapse during the healing process when the nose with inevitably be blocked with blood etc?

I am 21 and will do all my best to start breathing through nose. They said that if you are in your 20's or 30's, you can still make a big difference. From my perspective, your facial bones won't change much, if at all.. But, their position and movement will surely improve greatly. Then, there are facial muscles, neck, and back posture.. All of this is interconnected. Patience may be needed, but I think that many benefits can be visible straight away, because people do not look attractive breathing through their mouths, plus their diction and posture is affected by it.. I might leave an update here, in a couple of days or weeks time, to share my experiences with switching from mouth-only to mouth-nose breathing style.

@@alsimanche you know what just think about it at all times. think of it before sleeping. what's the thing you see most around you , it could be something like a door handle/knob whenever you see it think where is my tongue. you can ask those around you if you are sleeping with your mouth close. if the mouth is closed and you are asleep the tongue naturally goes there. at resting position your tongue won't be pressed as firmly as the whole body is relaxed. if you are like me then you might wake up in the middle of your rests, not completely but aware you will think where is my tongue and i get extreme satisfaction in realizing my mouth is closed hope this helps

I have my braces on now and getting them off two months from now. Does mewing still work with braces? And when I get my braces off and maybe wear a retainer, should I not use the retainer and do the younger posture thing? I’m just scared that my teeth will seperate again

I feel like since I started mewing my overbite might have increased. I don't want to increase it since I got it corrected with braces and don't want to have to go through that again.. is this going to happen?

I’m 18 so not too late? I have quite flat features and a longer face. I think having braces helped with it a bit but I feel as though this could help a lot more. I don’t really think I was ever a mouth breather but my tongue was always on the bottom of my mouth. Have also had a fair bit of sinus issues which isn’t fun.

Your nose gets bigger as you age regardless of whether you follow this technique or not. Nose and ears are some of the organs which develop till our death.
@thescoutpanda5 жыл бұрын
it's not your nose getting bigger per say, it's just your face being pushed forwards, which is a good thing. keep at it and the rest of the face will follow the nose into proportion.
@444mviews94 жыл бұрын
Yes pushing ur palate higher will make ur nose push to since its connected so if u want a more forward face deal with it

Hey, what method can I use to get my tongue on the top of my mouth? I’ve heard that saying things like: wing, n, mnnnnn etc can help get your tongue on the roof of your mouth- do these work? Are there any better methods
@Egavas07 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah, I make a conscious effort throughout the day to breath through my nose. But it seems that I breath through my mouth during sleep. The only thing that keeps me breathing through my nose during the night is my removable retainer I still wear from my days of having braces. Do you think I should continue to wear that during the night? Ideally I would hope to correct the problem without needing that assistance from the retainer.
@sarahkh127 жыл бұрын
I don't know whether or not it's your retainer, but it could be that your tongue is not in the correct position? If your tongue rests in the bottom of your mouth, when everything relaxes at night your mouth will open. Not sure if that makes sense! It sounds like you need myofunctional therapy though :)
@sameasnow7 жыл бұрын
buy a chin strap on amazon just wear it loosely and it will keep your mouth from falling open
@sarahkh127 жыл бұрын
You can try using mouth tape - there are several brands out there. However, depending on the shape of your mandible, you may not physically be able to keep your mouth closed at night without the aid of an appliance, tape, etc. If you have a vertically angled mandible (like me!) you will have problems...

I also have a retainer after 3.5 years of ortho. My retainer has a piece of plastic that covers the entire roof of my mouth keeping my tongue from making contact with it. It was a hard decision but I end up ditching the retainer because my snoring was getting worse and if I continued on like that I would have full blown sleep apnea. I don't know how much this will affect my teeth but the worse comes to worst, I'd rather having crooked teeth than having to sleep with a CPAC machine.
