Thank you forever for recommending Korean sunscreens! I started using the newly reformulated Dear Klairs Light Airy SPF (now they are calling it the All Day Airy sunscreen). Maybe I’m paranoid because of the scandal when they had to pull it from their shelves, but I don’t know if it works as well? Like I still have some occasional redness on my face and I’m not sure if that’s just because it is summer in the Deep South and I need to reapply more, or what. I also layer it with the Revision Intellishade SPF mineral foundation so like, I feel like I should look like Snow White. I still have to use up 2 bottles of the Dear Klairs but maybe I’ll switch to the Beauty of Joseon next!

An important thing to note: SPF doesn't add up/accumulate. For instance, if you put on SPF 30 sunscreen and then put on an SPF 15 moisturizer or foundation (moisturizer goes before sunscreen btw) you're not going to get SPF 45 worth of UV protection. You still get 30.

I'm all here for the Korean sunscreens (I use Scinic myself) but admittedly am skeptical after that whole controversy a few years back when a bunch of the Korean sunscreens were exposed for not actually having sun protection. At the time I was using that centella sunscreen that you yourself had recommended. No wonder the formula felt so easy and clean lol. I realize it wasn't the fault of the brands as they were duped into believing whatever ingredient did indeed have sun protection, but now I'm skeptical whenever the formula feels too good to be true (i.e. no cast, no irritation, etc.)
@carolinasandoval2542

I feel the exact same way!! I also tried the one he recommended that ended up not being what it was supposed too and it was so amazing I was bummed. I’m now trying the Madagascar Centella Skin 1004 (the one with the blue packaging) and it is soo great as far as texture and zero white cast but I can’t help but be skeptical that it’s even working because it’s so great:/

I think we should be skeptical about any sunscreen brand, not just the Korean controversy. I've heard about a variety of brands, American or European, that don't match what it says on the bottle too. Also just in general, I'm skeptical about American products based on vids I've seen. 😞😞😞 This message is to everyone of course, I'm sorry if this comes off as fear mongering. I'm saying this bc no one really talks about the other controversies. Its always Korea, Korea when we should be aware of everything 😅

This was SO needed. Because of the SPF lawsuits, I was looking for a video for some alternatives and this is PERFECT! $13 for Beauty of Joseon? That’s about the same or even cheaper than most USA sunscreens. Also, for white cast, I found that if you just keep dabbing and blotting it, it should go away. Key is to use little by little so it doesn’t oversaturate and give that look

Just be aware that the Joseon sunscreen is only 50mL. Many of these Korean sunscreens used to be 80-100mL, but are now 50mL. The tube is PUNY. So it’s more realistic to compare it to a 100mL local sunscreen for $26, which doesn’t seem like such a great deal anymore.

As someone who is naturally very sweaty, I find that sunscreens that protect well are the sweat and water resistant ones even if the spf number in itself isn't the highest. My fave sunscreens include Avene intense protect spf50, Holika holika aloe soothing waterproof suncream spf50, Dr g mild green sun up spf50, Missha cicadin sunmilk spf50, with honorable mentions being Garnier hydra24 spf50 and Paula's choice daily moisturizing lotion spf30. Korean sunscreens are decent but overall I find European, Japanese, and Australian sunscreens to be the best of the best. They have very strong protections and they focus more on the actual uva and uvb filters more than the bells and whistles ingredients like antioxidant ingredients, plant extract, etc.. You can easily find the water, sweat, and friction resistant formula from sunscreen products made in these 3 places than the Korean sunscreen too in my experience

Eucerin Oil Control Face Sun Gel-Cream SPF 50+ (European) is the absolute best sunscreen for oily skin. It legit leaves a natural dry touch finish, is water and sweat resistant, fragrance free and has a UVA-PF higher than the EU recommendation. Yeah, it contains alcohol but it's impossible to create a sunscreen with a high UVA protection that's actually usable without it. Imo everyone should have at least two sunscreens, Korean ones for everyday use and European/Australian ones for outdoor activities.

Spray sunscreen - Dr Dray has talked about these. She said you need to rub it in after spraying and not to spray directly on your face since you might inhale it. Even if you hold your breath, odds are you’re going to screw up from time to time and accidentally inhale. Seems like the list of reasons not to use this goes on and on.

He's said in a few comments that he's not very familiar with Japanese ones. Maybe I just live in a different corner of the skincare community to Hyram's, but I'm shocked because even though Korean skincare has been much trendier, I thought that when it came to sunscreens, Japanese ones had been hyped up just as much as Korean ones for years now. It's hard to even talk about SPF without someone bringing up Biore or Canmake, or others. I think my fave so far is the Rohto lavender-tinted one! It dries down completely on my skin, so I don't worry about it rubbing off, and the finish is just *chef's kiss.* And the tint isn't strong either.

With you on the Korean ones, I swear by Etude House Mild Airy Finish SPF50 because it's broad-spectrum, absorbs in and looks completely matte, even works as sort of a primer as it delays oiliness for me. Been staving off the sunburn for years with it. Though, despite your reservations, the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen would be up there on my list is it weren't so hideously expensive and only SPF 30 anywhere I find it in the UK, we don't get the full Supergoop range here and paying nearly £40 for a tiny bottle of SPF30? Nah. I can get the EH for less than half that (though I'm finding it harder to find and scared it's being discontinued). For my body though I just grab any well rated chemist or big name brand like Garnier or Nivea as I'm not so bothered about the heavier formulas for my arms, chest etc. and they are very effective and more economical.

I’m curious about everyone’s thoughts on serum/liquid sunscreens. I’ve seen a few now and it seems as if they’re becoming more popular, but I’ve never tried and don’t know how I feel about them in terms of effectiveness. Also, I’ve got to be honest, I really hate the demonizing of chemical sunscreens. When I first got into skincare every influencer made chemical sunscreens sound SO TERRIBLE. After a few years now into my skincare journey, I realize this couldn’t be further from the truth and I can’t stand how influencers continue to drive this narrative that they’re so awful. My dry skin can’t handle the drying experience of mineral sunscreens and there’s some truly great chemical sunscreens out there. My personal fave- Bondi Sands! So if mineral isn’t working for you, don’t let anyone sway you away from trying chemical!

I've heard that Amazon can be a sketchy place to buy cosmetics and skincare products because of fakes/dupes out there that don't get the job done. I definitely don't want to gamble with my sunscreen. . .so what is the best place to buy Korean sunscreens?

Please try Korean BODY sunscreens and report back! There is a serious lack of great body sunscreens that don't smell super strong or leave a horrible white cast unless you use USA chemical.

Korean sunscreen is not illegal to buy or sell in the US, they are just not FDA approved . .

I was wondering if BOJ is a broad spectrum sunscreen because it is not mentioned on their bottle even the uva & uvb protection? + does mentioning uva & uvb protection on the bottle means its a broad spectrum, it mentions in the Isntree bottle tho.

Hi Hyram, I'm from German speaking Europe and we do have some brands like Ladival and Eucerin that I am fully obsessed with. If you ever get your hands on these ones, I would be curious what you think

I love Korean sunscreens! That’s all I use. I have brown skin so physical sunscreen always leaves a white cast. And I’m sensitive to American chemical sunscreen. But Korean sunscreen … 😍🥰 my favorite is the ILLIYOON - Mild Easy-wash Sun Cream.

You are missing Australia sunscreen. They have a total different rule to protect skin from the sun. They also have a Cancer's Council, and have their sunscreen test harder than ever. You should consider they also. One thing maybe formula can not pass Korean but it still better than US & EU sunscreen.

🎉🎉🎉hyram is wavelength we all need. So like yeah combining different worlds and didnt get the credit he deserves. Like if life is suppose to be a screen I'm guessing like having someone like hyram is so nice to be around because you feel like you can walk around with him. There is this thing of well yeah men do control most things but also women do go through life particular ly when becoming a women like a man just can't be even if theyre queer like making the decision to be a mom be pregnant is very different from being a man.

Oh, this is the same brand my friend recommended to me. She told me the cleansing balm is good and affordable. So I tried it and loved it. It's comparable to Banila Co. Cleansing balm pink tub just a little more clumpy but still able to melt away my heavy makeup. I saw this sunscreen but wasn't sure if it's good or not since I'm using the Supergoop unseen sunscreen and the matte one. Now I'm sure it's going to be my next purchase. I'm going to restock the cleansing balm and buy this sunscreen as well. Thanks Hyram! ❤

I just only use spf that is made in my country, I live in the Middle East, I don’t trust stuff that were not made with hell in mind, we have 4 companies that I rotate between, depends of who has the best deals, there is all kind of spf to all of the companies, chemical and mineral and everything else, my favourite right now is one that comes in a clear gel texture , it has no cas and it works really well also a stick one

Hi @hyram just curious if you still like and highly recommend the Kinship sunscreen? I haven't seen you mention it in your videos anymore lately and I was wondering if there was a reason, or if you just found these current recommendations better? So far, I've been LOYAL to the Kinship one and if you could recommend which of these new ones are similar or better value, I'd love to hear your feedback! I look to your guidance a lot as starting and finding a sunscreen that works with my skin, has CHANGED my skin tremendously for the better!

My all time sunscreen that I religiously continue to buy and use daily is mineral snscreen by colorscience they are a bit pricey but honestly worth it. I found it is great for my sensitive, acne prone skin plus their formula does not have a white cast in it! They have a milky creamy formula and also sell a powder version I prefer the milky cream version. I have yet to try a korean sunscreen I am tempted but I am just not sure how my sensitive skin will respond to it which makes me nervous. Coorscience though has some amazing products for sun protection!
