Another "hot tip" for the newbies...if you don't want to have to redraw lines on the tape, you can score the lines with a razor knife to prevent tear-out as well.

We need more easy projects to do at home with basic tools :D !!!!! For example I am interested in an easy-to-make piece of furniture with drawers. Something like those library drawers. In the old style without the use of drawer mechanisms. Very nice please !
@darinnetherland3466
@darinnetherland3466 4 жыл бұрын
Leo GreenGaming make the boxes for drawers spandex then add strips of wood down the lengths of the sides. In the carcass of the furniture it goes in, attach wood strips with space in between slightly wider than the strip on the drawer. Add wax to the faces that will come in contact with each other so they slide easier. When putting the pieces in the carcass, use an extra strip you cut for the drawer sides and some playing cards to space it out and keep the spacing even.

Another tip: Take a scrap piece of wood that is straight (ideally 2 pieces fastened together to create a 90 degree angle) to use as a guide to make sure the drill bit is going straight into the piece, not angled.

A tip i like to use to prevent blow out of edges is to use a large craft knife (box cutter ? ) to score the line, then cut outside the like, any chips will brak off at the score. Also, you used 4 tools (putty knife and handsaw) :P :D

Great little project and video David, although I'm curious why you decided to use the jigsaw and drill for this, instead of a circular saw and drill? Since it was all straight cuts it seems like it would have been a lot easier that way :)

For the sake of being a simple project, would it be a strong enough joint to just make the whole bottom a single piece of 1/2” and glue to the sides the same way so I don’t need to buy another piece of plywood and have less cuts? Some dowels could probably go into the bottom also.

Also, don't get the cheapest jigsaw! I had a Skil jigsaw for years and couldn't cut a straight line to save my life. I upgraded to a Bosch and it was a night and day difference. Bob at I Like to Make Stuff had a similar epiphany when he traded up his cheap jigsaw for a DeWalt and, yeah, there is an incredible difference.
